Chapter 208: Chapter 208: Fourth Uncle, Are You Infatuated? (1)

"But brother is really, really great! They are much smarter than Cancan. They understand many things that Cancan doesn’t, they can swim, and they can even disassemble a pistol." In Gu Can’s innocent world, anyone smarter than her was a genius. For example, besides her own brother, there were her uncle’s children, Fangfang brother, and Yanyan sister.

Pistol?

Among Gu Can’s words of admiration, Mi Jing heard a term that surprised her and her eyes widened slightly. Then she remembered that Shen Lingxing had mentioned before that Gu Mosheng’s grandfather was part of a military region, so it seemed quite normal that Gu Yang and Xia Yao brothers knew how to handle guns. After all, given their family background, what kind of guns couldn’t they play with?

Thinking this through, Mi Jing calmed down, leisurely brewed a pot of flower tea, and then poured a cup for each of them.

"Jing, I actually came today because I have something I need your help with." The fragrance of the flower tea was delightful. Xia Yu simply held the teacup under her nose to smell the aroma and found it enticing. Then, she took a few sips and stated her purpose for coming today.

"Just tell me what you need. As long as I can help, I definitely will." Mi Jing has always been a very loyal person, even though she wasn’t very familiar with Xia Yu, she would help out anyone she could. Moreover, Xia Yu was Shen Lingxing’s sister-in-law.

"I heard from Xing’er last time that you study painting. Recently, Cancan has been really eager to learn how to paint, so I wanted to ask if you could teach her a bit."

Actually, Xia Yu could totally spend money to hire someone else to be Gu Can’s painting teacher, but as the saying goes, it’s easier to get things done through acquaintances. Firstly, Gu Can really liked Mi Jing, and secondly, if Mi Jing taught Gu Can to paint, they would interact more frequently, which could also improve their relationship. So, after considering this, Xia Yu decided to ask Mi Jing.

"Sure! I’ve been quite free lately. Leave it to me." Mi Jing readily agreed.

"Your coffee shop..."

"Because my friend is going back home for New Year, so it’s temporarily closed."

"Oh, I was thinking, if you have the time, maybe you can give Cancan some lessons, as long as it doesn’t interfere with your schedule." As the New Year approached, there were more things to do than usual, and Xia Yu had taken this into account.

"It won’t interfere. The only thing I’m busy with lately is buying New Year items. Cancan is so well-behaved; I can take her along when I go out. Plus, I have a niece about the same age as Cancan; once she returns from her trip in a few days, I can introduce them to each other. This way, my niece can have an additional playmate."

Hearing Mi Jing say this, Xia Yu was completely relieved. The two of them continued chatting while sipping flower tea, and time passed swiftly in their conversation.

"Mom, I want to eat your cola chicken wings today." Gu Can looked at Xia Yu with expectant, big, round eyes filled with hope.

"Alright, once we’re home, Mom will make it for you." Xia Yu sat Gu Can on her lap, happily agreeing to her daughter’s small request.

"Yu, stay and have lunch before you leave." Hearing Gu Can’s words, Mi Jing looked up at the clock on the wall and noticed it was nearly lunchtime, so she suggested.

Not being formal with Mi Jing, Xia Yu glanced at her sons playing games on the carpet and then stood up to say to Mi Jing, "I’ll help you in the kitchen."

"Uh, my cooking skills aren’t great, I might need you to guide me more." Mi Jing’s fair face showed a trace of bashful embarrassment before she laughed and said.

Because there were no chicken wings at home, Mi Jing decided to go out to buy some. Xia Yu felt it was too troublesome and suggested making some easy dishes instead, but Mi Jing was insistent that since it was their first meal at home, it shouldn’t be neglected. After some discussion, Xia Yu decided to join Mi Jing in going out to buy things, leaving the children at home.

"Is it okay to leave Cancan and the others at home?" Mi Jing expressed her concern.

"It’s fine. They are quite independent." Xia Yu said confidently.

With that, Mi Jing didn’t ask further. She whistled towards the balcony to call Kabi over to keep Cancan company, then took Cancan to the studio and prepared brushes, paints, a small stool, and an easel for her to paint casually, to pass the time and to see how imaginative her paintings were.

Xia Yu gave instructions to her two sons to take care of their sister before heading out with Mi Jing.

Today happened to be the day Mi Jing had to submit her paintings, so she found a place to scan and send them to the magazine editor before heading to the supermarket with Xia Yu.

When they returned home, it was already half an hour later. Everything at home seemed normal, just as it was before they left. Gu Yang and Xia Yao were still playing games, and Cancan was obediently painting in the studio. As for Kabi, she was still beside Gu Can, lying on the floor with her eyes closed, asleep. Only the paint on the palette had been mixed together, no longer distinctly occupying each compartment.

Carrying the shopping bags into the kitchen, Mi Jing and Xia Yu immediately started cooking. Initially, Xia Yu was supposed to assist, but after all the ingredients were cleaned, Mi Jing couldn’t do much, leaving her to be the assistant instead.

After cleaning the dishes, Mi Jing walked out of the kitchen, placed the dishes on the dining table, and then stepped towards the studio.

"Cancan, the paintbrush is dirty, you can’t put it in your mouth." Mi Jing stood at the studio door and saw Gu Can holding the brush in her mouth with a dazed look, still very cute, innocent, like a small angel, pure and beautiful, making everyone like her instantly. Hence, Mi Jing’s tone became gentler.

"Oh."

Gu Can slowly lifted her eyes, then turned to glance at Mi Jing, softly responding.

"What’s wrong?" Seeing Gu Can seemed a bit down, Mi Jing walked over to her with concern, then squatted down to be at her level and asked with a gentle smile, "Cancan, do you not like painting?"

"No, I like painting," Gu Can shook her head, her large eyes clear and pure, without a hint of complex emotions.

"Then why is Cancan unhappy? Is it because you don’t find it fun here?"

Thanks to her previous experiences with Xuanxuan, Mi Jing was quite skilled at comforting children and adept at observing their emotions.

"..."

After hearing this, Gu Can didn’t speak, instead, she lowered her head, lightly biting her lips, struggling about whether to admit her mistake to Mi Jing.

"Cancan, are you unhappy because you think your painting isn’t good?" As Gu Can remained silent, Mi Jing could only guess her thoughts. She glanced at the very abstract painting on the easel and said, "Auntie thinks Cancan’s painting is pretty good, the colors are very beautiful."
