Flash Marriage With Mr. Sheffield: Go Away, Cheap Man!-Chapter 165: You Two Make a Perfect Match
Silas Sheffield had long prepared an outfit for Clara Sterling to wear tonight, a moon-white cheongsam.
In the afternoon, Sophie Sheffield took Clara to her private stylist to get styled and made up.
In the mirror, Clara was adorned in a well-tailored moon-white cheongsam, her graceful figure fully displayed, hair tied into a chignon with a delicate magnolia white jade hairpin, pearl studs and a pearl necklace adding a touch of elegance.
"My brother has good taste, you look beautiful in this cheongsam." Sophie expressed her admiration, "My grandmother also likes this kind of classical attire, you’re sure to make a great impression in it."
Sophie was wearing a white shirt paired with a navy mamian skirt, which featured large pieces of exquisite hand-embroidered flowers and birds, her hair partially styled into a chignon with a hairpin, and partially cascading down her back.
"Sophie, I’m a little nervous; it’s my first time meeting your family’s relatives today." Clara held onto Sophie’s hand.
Sophie reassured her, "It’s okay, Clara, you have my brother and me here. Later my brother will introduce them to you, just follow his lead when greeting them. Don’t worry, they’re all quite nice."
"Your grandmother..." Clara furrowed her brows slightly, knowing the grandmother didn’t like her, and worried that her presence at the granny’s eightieth birthday might upset her.
Yet, as the granddaughter-in-law, she was duty-bound to attend.
"Don’t worry, in this sort of occasion, grandma won’t embarrass you."
Clara asked, "Will Thea be coming?"
Sophie’s brows knitted, "Even though my brother and I don’t think much of her now, granny insists on inviting her because she likes her. After all, it’s granny’s birthday party, and we, as juniors, shouldn’t downright oppose granny. So..."
Sophie shifted her tone, "But rest assured, even though she is the Tate Family’s heiress, she wouldn’t dare make trouble at granny’s birthday party."
"Alright." Clara lowered her lashes and said nothing more.
...
The open-air parking lot at the entrance of the five-star hotel was filled with various luxury cars.
The guests attending the grandmother’s eightieth birthday were all wealthy or prestigious, aside from Sheffield and Habit families’ relatives, numerous dignitaries and celebrities had arrived.
The guests were not only from Crestwood’s upper-class society but from other cities and even abroad, given the Sheffield Family’s extensive business, they had numerous companies overseas as well.
Clara entered the hall with Silas’s arm in hers.
As soon as she walked in, she noticed several familiar faces she had seen on TV news.
Clara’s heart clenched, it was the first time she saw government officials and leaders so closely in real life.
Even though she knew the Sheffield Family was a top-tier family in Crestwood, she had been in a hidden marriage, never attending banquets with Silas; the only formal occasion was last time’s subsidiary’s anniversary celebration.
However, that celebration was attended merely by some Sheffield partners and company’s own employees, no relatives and certainly no high officials. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
"Silas." A girl wearing a red gown approached, "Is this my sister-in-law?"
The girl donned long, straight black hair, her large, bright eyes shining, she smiled at Clara, "Hello, sister-in-law, I’m Hannah Sheffield."
"She’s third uncle’s daughter, Hannah." Silas introduced Clara.
"I know, hello Hannah." Clara responded with a smile.
She hadn’t met Hannah in person but had seen her photos.
Silas had shown her the Sheffield family’s photos yesterday to introduce everyone.
"Sister-in-law, you are so beautiful, even prettier in person than in videos and photos, I watched the announcement video of you and my brother Silas, was amazed by your beauty then; you are even more stunning in reality, more beautiful than the celebrities I admire."
Hannah was in her sophomore year of high school and loved idol chasing.
After chatting with Hannah for a bit, a lady in a deep purple cheongsam approached, "Silas, Clara, you’re here."
"Mom." Hannah called out.
"Third aunt." Clara immediately greeted.
Victoria Yeats nodded with a smile, "I heard your sister-in-law praising you this morning, saying you’re pretty and sensible, finally seeing you now, you two look so compatible together."
The sister-in-law she referred to was Joanne Quincy, Silas Sheffield’s stepmother.
Victoria Yeats gave a very gentle and approachable vibe, Clara’s first impression of her was quite good.
Silas mentioned that third aunt was a Veridian’s prestigious lady, met third uncle while studying abroad, free to love, and their relationship had been great over the years.
"Silas, Clara." Joanne Quincy arrived holding Zeke Sheffield.
"Dad, mom." Silas and Clara spoke in unison.
Zeke nodded slightly.
"Clara looks truly beautiful today." Joanne Quincy grinned, turning to Victoria Yeats, "I told you my daughter-in-law was beautiful, didn’t lie, did I?"
Joanne genuinely liked Clara Sterling, her expression had a hint of flaunting to her sister-in-law.
Victoria chuckled, "Indeed, she’s very pretty, perfectly matches Silas."
Thea Tate walked over, hearing that last statement.
Matches?
Haha, blind much?
That country girl from the countryside and Silas match how? Everything about her screamed inferiority, couldn’t compare with her.
"Uncle Sheffield, Auntie Quincy, Auntie Yeats." Thea greeted with a radiant smile.
Upon noticing Thea, Clara subtly turned her head to glance at Silas, who suddenly revealed a colder demeanor.
Joanne Quincy and Zeke Sheffield were already aware of Thea’s stunt, buying trending searches to spread rumors about Clara Sterling and Julian Hawthorne.
Victoria Yeats hadn’t heard, she replied with a smile, "Thea, you’ve come, looking prettier."
Joanne Quincy’s smile vanished instantly, her gaze toward Thea growing chilly.
Joanne wanted to chastise her but restrained her impulse given Thea was the grandmother’s guest, and today was granny’s eightieth birthday; she didn’t want to spoil the mood and upset granny, thus held back her inner displeasure.
"Hubby, let’s go over there." Joanne outright ignored Thea’s greeting, taking Zeke’s arm and leaving.
Getting snubbed this way, Thea’s smile momentarily stiffened but quickly returned to normal.
Victoria observed Joanne’s attitude towards Thea with slight puzzlement.
Wasn’t she fond of Thea before? What changed now?
Victoria kept silent, her gaze shifting among Silas Sheffield couple and Thea.
Thea looked up at Silas, her eyes pitiful, "Silas, I want to talk to you."
"Whatever you need to say, do so here." Silas retorted coldly.
Thea frowned, her sights falling on the hand looped in Silas’s arm.
"There are outsiders here, let’s find somewhere else to talk."
Silas bluntly dismissed her, "The only outsider here is you."
