Chapter 178: Chapter 178: Aunt’s Secret

Clara and Sophie Sheffield walked to the door of Rose Sheffield’s room and suddenly paused when they heard the noise coming from inside.

Clara turned to Sophie Sheffield, exchanging a look of confusion.

"What’s going on?" Clara asked softly.

"I have no idea." Sophie Sheffield was equally bewildered.

"Let’s go, don’t disturb Aunt." Sophie Sheffield hurriedly pulled Clara downstairs.

After going downstairs, they didn’t immediately head to the back garden but instead sat down on the living room sofa.

"That can’t be right, my aunt is single." Sophie Sheffield frowned in deep thought, "Could it be she’s..."

"Clara, did you hear a man’s voice just now?" Sophie Sheffield turned and asked Clara.

Clara nodded, "I faintly heard something."

Sophie Sheffield slowly spoke, "Then it could only be..."

Jacob Underwood.

The only outsiders visiting the house today were the Underwood family of three.

Rowan Underwood was playing chess with Zeke Sheffield in the game room, Mrs. Underwood was having afternoon tea with Joanne Quincy in the back garden.

Only Jacob Underwood was nowhere to be seen.

Although Sophie Sheffield didn’t mention the name outright, both she and Clara were clearly aware of who was in Rose Sheffield’s room.

Sophie Sheffield was completely shocked, afraid others might hear, she lowered her voice, "No wonder Jacob mentioned he was in a secret relationship. Turns out he’s with my aunt, indeed it’s not easy to make it public."

Clara said, "Since they’re keeping it secret, let’s keep it for them."

Sophie Sheffield nodded, "Yeah, this definitely can’t be spoken about."

Sophie Sheffield murmured, "Aunt always says she’s a non-marriage type, turns out it’s because she loves someone she shouldn’t. I wonder how long they’ve been together."

Clara was puzzled, "They’re both unmarried, why shouldn’t they love each other?"

"Aunt and Jacob are from different generations. Jacob is of the same generation as us, whereas Aunt is of the generation of his parents, so it’s difficult for them to move forward. Grandma likely wouldn’t approve of their relationship."

"Is there any kinship between the Underwood family and yours?"

"No, Grandpa Underwood and my grandfather were childhood friends."

Clara: "Since there’s no kinship, why does the generational gap matter?"

"Clara, I think the same way as you do. My aunt and Jacob must also feel the same. My aunt is actually still young, just five years older than Jacob, the age gap isn’t big. It’s just that the older generation’s views are rather conservative, they take generational hierarchy very seriously. They’re keeping it private probably because they fear grandma and Jacob’s parents can’t accept it."

Sophie Sheffield sighed, feeling a bit sympathetic for her aunt.

Aunt must really love Jacob, otherwise, she wouldn’t be able to resist being with him at the Sheffield home...

They love each other yet cannot be openly together.

Sophie Sheffield had a worried expression, "Jacob’s parents and my parents, aunt are very good friends, they often interact overseas. If Uncle and Aunt find out about Jacob and Aunt, they might angrily sever ties with Aunt."

Clara and Sophie Sheffield returned to the back garden.

Joanne Quincy asked, "Where’s your aunt?"

Sophie Sheffield sat down, speaking casually, "Aunt is taking a nap."

Joanne Quincy: "That’s odd, Rose doesn’t usually nap."

Sophie Sheffield casually found an excuse, "Maybe she didn’t get enough sleep last night and wanted to catch up."

"That could be it." Joanne Quincy didn’t question further, continuing her chat with Mrs. Underwood.

Upstairs, Rose Sheffield couldn’t withstand Jacob Underwood’s intense advances and completely surrendered.

"Is this the room you lived in as a child?" Jacob Underwood trapped Rose Sheffield beneath him, his thin lips brushing over her collarbone and neck.

"Yes." Rose Sheffield closed her eyes, feeling his kisses.

"Every time you come back, you’ll remember how we indulged here." Jacob Underwood’s eyes were dark, filled with desire.

Rose Sheffield muffled a moan, "I don’t come back often."

Jacob Underwood supported her legs with his hands, "When are you returning to Country S?"

"Hmm... the day after tomorrow..."

The man’s voice was hoarse, "Alright, send me the flight number, I’ll buy a ticket for the day after tomorrow to go back with you."

"Okay." 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

Afraid of being discovered, they both carefully restrained themselves, but sometimes couldn’t help making some sounds.

Rose Sheffield bit her lip, occasionally letting out muffled moans.

Her room was on the third floor, with the old lady’s room directly below hers, facing her room.

Although the room was soundproofed well and the old lady slept deeply during naps, Rose Sheffield and Jacob Underwood were still extremely careful, keeping their voices low for fear of being heard.

Doing such things right under the Sheffield family’s and Jacob’s parents’ noses had a thrilling sense of secret affair.

While in Country S, they had spent countless days and nights entwined like this.

Afterwards, they went to the bathroom to shower together.

Under the waterfall, when their eyes met, the feelings returned.

The sound of water covered some suppressed, heart-pounding noises.

Afraid of being discovered, they finished fairly quickly.

After showering and drying their hair, Rose Sheffield cautiously opened the door, checking the corridor first. Seeing no one, she finally let Jacob Underwood out of her room.

At dinner time.

The old lady awoke from her nap, came out of her room full of energy.

Rose Sheffield also came downstairs.

Joanne Quincy saw her and smiled, "Rose seems much more energetic after a nap, her complexion has significantly improved."

Rose Sheffield’s eyes flickered with a trace of unnoticeable embarrassment and shyness.

Clara and Sophie Sheffield heard this, almost instinctively turning their heads to look at Rose Sheffield.

Her complexion indeed looked noticeably rosier.

Clara and Sophie Sheffield were well aware, Aunt hadn’t just taken a nap.

The maid set up the dishes, and Silas Sheffield happened to return as well.

After the meal, the Underwood family said goodbye to the old lady.

Silas Sheffield also left with Clara.

Thinking about unintentionally discovering Aunt’s secret today, Clara was filled with various emotions.

Clearly, two people loving each other, yet hindered by societal conventions, unable to be openly together.

"What’s wrong?" Silas Sheffield’s voice came from beside her, "You’ve seemed troubled all evening."

Clara must keep Aunt’s secret.

Even if Silas Sheffield asks, she has no intention of saying anything.

"It’s nothing, probably just a bit tired."

"Go to bed early when we get back, I won’t keep you up tonight."

Clara pursed her lips, changing the topic, "I heard the Sutton family and Tate family have collaborated."

"Yes."

"With them teaming up against you, will you feel pressured?"

"No." Silas Sheffield answered decisively, carrying the unique confidence of a strong person.

Clara nodded, "It’s only a few days until the defense, will you attend my graduation ceremony?"

"Of course."

A wife’s graduation ceremony must not be missed.

...

In the following days, Clara rarely went out, staying at The Ripplewood Estate reading and studying.

Her teacher, Warren Cheney, sent her several of the latest academic papers, instructing her to study them carefully.

Clara was intelligent, having previously read several academic books recommended by Warren Cheney, she had knowledge reserves, making reading the papers easy.

After finishing the papers, she called her teacher to provide feedback.

The teacher was surprised, "You finished so quickly? I thought you’d need a couple more days."

Clara chuckled, "Recently, there hasn’t been much going on, plenty of time."

"It seems your learning ability and perception exceed those of the students I’ve taught before."
