Chapter 108 - 108. First time hunting

We continued our walk, and when we were near the cave, I stopped again because the coin in my mind had turned eerie.

Like the group from before, I heard it soon. The hoofs that dashed against the ground, undefinable of its direction, but coming closer.

"Remember, you can easily kill it through it's right eye—from our standpoint. Jeyjey, I want you to be quiet and do not scream. We'll have to fight it." I instructed quietly while turning my body slowly, trying to spot something in the distance.

"Just two or so monsters, no problem." I figured through the sounds and conjured up a ladder and put it against one of the tall trees. The branches started far too high for either of us to climb them without help.

"Grandma. Climb on the tree and wait up there. Hold on tightly." I ordered, and my grandma did what she had earlier done for the first time. She listened to me without talking back.

Very good. With her moving fast, I put the ladder against another tree.

"Henry, bring Jejey up. Jejey, hold on tightly, and don't worry, nobody is gonna leave you behind."

Henry climbed the ladder with the girl on his back and turned awkwardly to let her down on a branch. She trembled but did as told.

One girl and one dragon were safe, so we could now concentrate on fighting.

Very good. I really need to get a bit of anger out of my system.

"We're gonna kill them, easy-peasy." I chuckled and felt the adrenaline pumping. There was still a debt to be repaid after constantly being confronted with torso-hills created by monsters.

It had me fucking traumatized, okay?!

Eventually, I saw them.

"Henry, follow me; don't let them near the two occupied trees."

"Understood." Henry turned to me before chasing my gaze; there it was, it were two of them.

I conjured up my gun and my magazine, put them together, and ran in their direction to intercept them before they arrived.

These monsters were fucking big, but they were far away.

However, I have unlimited magazines, you fuckers.

I ran, shot, and concentrated on the one that was on the left.

After emptying my magazine, I reset my ability with the mandatory needle before conjuring up a gun and magazine again, assembling, aiming, and firing.

The deer I was firing at didn't slow down at all; sadly, it also did not fall. Though they had uneven legs and a big body size, they could navigate between the trees surprisingly well.

"Henry, on my sign, we'll split up! I'll go left; you go right so that they'll split up as well!" I yelled.

"Roger!" Henry ran beside me, his knife in his hand, and his eyes focused on the target ahead.

The two monsters finally creased their speed a bit, and when we were only a few meters away, I shouted,

"NOW!"

I turned left, and Henry turned right. Amidst running, I looked back and saw that it had really worked out; they did follow each one of us.

Now the question was how to slow the monster that followed me further. I could try the action movie move where I grabbed a branch and swung around, maybe even landing on the deer's back at the end. But then again, the branches were high up, and I figured that I would fail miserably and injure myself.

So I opted for continuing running, meanwhile trying to memorize the way I took and keeping an eye on the coin.

I saw a slope ahead and wanted to jump down when the monster had closed in on me and somehow managed to grab my leg with its snout.

The rest of my body crashed into the ground, and it stopped in its tracks. I could feel how my leg was pulled in deeper into its pharynx, and after my vision of the girl, I knew exactly what to expect next.

I conjured up a gun and ammunition again and fired at its right eye, but it seemed conscious of its weak spot, turning its head so that the bullets only struck the protruding skull.

Furthermore, I had no choice apart from conjuring up a needle to reset again before I got my kitchen knife. After raising my upper body, I rammed it inside its snout and slashed it, from where my ankle was in to my thigh.

Besides blood, the teeth deeply embedded into the snout were exposed; they were sharp and a sole row that grew in a circle.

How lovely.

It let go of me, and after landing on the ground, I jumped up, ramming my knife in its skull and conjuring up a second one in my other hand, using them to climb up. The monstrous deer stumbled backwards and shook its head to get rid of me; its snout was trying to grab me but ended up failing.

Finally, I reached the sunken right eye. After again conjuring up a needle, I grabbed the eye with my bare hand before pulling with all my might. Like with the corpse of the deer that Henry had killed, it was easily removed, alongside the string of brain matter.

I fell down together with the monster, finally getting rid of a deer on my own.

After taking a few deep breaths, I heard someone coming to me, on feet and not hoofs.

Henry, who was drenched from a fresh blood shower, soon arrived at my side.

"Are you okay?"

"Yes. Let's go back." I would love to take a shower, but I knew that even after entering the cave, we would have to remain here, and it was unclear how long for.

An animalistic scream was heard, the same one I encountered in my vision of the girl who was killed. When I turned around, I saw a baby deer coming to us, as big as a real deer but not looking any less grotesque.

"We killed its parents?" Henry asked.

"It looks like it." I turned around and started to walk back, Henry following behind me. I'm too lazy to kill a little deer. When it gets older, we can fight fair and square.

If it killed me in revenge, I would at least be freed from this shitty life and the shitty decisions I will be forced to make.

"Kenny, I'm sorry." Henry started as he matched my steps.

"I have reflected on it; I want to be a good dog." His voice sounded meek, like what you would expect from a good boy.

"Prove yourself when we meet your sister. Then you'll get either praised or forsaken."
