Foreign Land Reclamation By a Vegetable-growing Skeleton-Chapter 1701 - 1262: Blinded by Money
Chapter 1701: Chapter 1262: Blinded by Money
Anthony and Negriss felt as if thousands of bolts of lightning raced across their minds. They carefully disguised themselves, only to turn around and find someone ostentatiously hiring people to set up a stall here.
The newcomer was a Divine Star Descendant with a Goblin-like appearance. Its hurried, hand-rubbing gait resembled nothing of a Divine Star Descendant, rather it looked exactly like a Goblin.
Upon approaching everyone, its gaze quickly swept over the crowd and accurately identified the decision-maker: "Greetings, esteemed guests. Might I ask if this bamboo insect is for sale? Our Commerce Guild is currently acquiring some flying Carrying Beasts. We can offer a good price."
Okay, hearing this, it’s clear they came from outside. Only outsiders would recognize bamboo insects, and everyone seems to refer to this Clan subspecies as bamboo insects.
Anthony was intrigued and casually threw out a phrase often used by Chairman Silver Coin: "Apart from faith and the Lord, nothing is unsellable, just depends on the right price. What are you willing to offer, sir?"
"Oh dear, how do you know that saying? It’s a famous line frequently uttered by our chairman, so familiar! It seems fate has entwined us. Do you have a target price in mind, dear guest?" The Goblin clapped both hands, speaking enthusiastically.
Anthony feigned displeasure and said, "You want to buy, yet expect the guest to name the price? Is this how you do business? Who’s your supervisor? I’m going to file a complaint."
The Goblin gaped in surprise; managing to find such a knowledgeable guest who even knows about lodging complaints?
Upon regaining composure, the Goblin quickly said, "No, no, absolutely no intention to impose pricing on the guest. It appears the guest is familiar with market prices, admirable indeed. May I check the condition of the goods, if you don’t mind?"
Anthony made a gesture of invitation.
"One undernourished, emaciated bamboo insect Carrying Beast..." The Goblin sang as he examined.
"Pff—" Negriss burst into laughter on the spot: "Silver Coin obviously never trained it properly."
The Goblin was startled: "You... You know Chairman Silver Coin? You are... Are you Little Fatty... Are you Lord Nage?"
Anthony smiled and nodded: "I didn’t expect you have expanded the business realm this far. Which branch of Silver Chamber of Commerce are you from?"
Anthony spoke while drawing a pattern in the air.
The Goblin’s demeanor shifted, hastily drawing another pattern while speaking: "I’m Vice-Chairman of the Diakos Trading Team, I’m Diakos."
A manager, huh? The Silver Light Mercantile Company’s chairman is solely Silver Coin; others are vice-chairmen managing trading teams, hence this team’s chief representative.
After identifying the pattern drawn by the other, Anthony drew another new pattern.
The Goblin’s demeanor became serious. He immediately took out a calculator, calculated for quite some time, eventually arriving at a string of numbers. Then he took out a book, located the numbers within it, and pieced together an identity.
"Greetings, President Anthony." The Goblin bowed respectfully in salutation.
"Rise up, didn’t expect to encounter a pioneer of trade routes here, you’re impressive." Anthony praised.
Negriss bewilderedly asked: "Wait, wait, what does all the gesturing mean? When did you become a President? What does President mean?"
Anthony said to Diakos: "Explain it to him."
"Certainly, President," Diakos turned to Negriss to explain: "President signifies the authority to make major decisions. President’s privilege surpasses even our chairman’s, overseeing all affairs of the commerce guild. The gestures we exchanged earlier were secret hand signals within the commerce guild."
"President posed a high-level signal to inquire my identity, to which I responded with my department. The President provided his identity code, and I calculated a number using accounting methods, locating the explanation from internal accounts to confirm President’s identity."
Negriss looked puzzled: "Does it have to be so cumbersome? Can’t an imprint express one’s identity?"
"Certainly," Diakos respectfully replied: "If I were subjected to a Soul Search, an imprint would be exposed. However, this whole procedure demands knowledge of identity codes, proficiency in accounting methods, and recognition of special markers in internal accounts, making it difficult for ordinary folks to decipher the correct identity code through this process."
Indeed, an imprint would reveal all information upon Soul Search, and learning accounting methods is simple enough, yet interfacing with internal accounts can make even Negriss’s head ache.
Internal accounts, known as dark accounts, have unique recording methods for every commerce guild; zero visibly can mean one, or two-three-four-five, essentially reliant on the accountant’s habit.
Such dark accounts are comprehensible only to the accountant themselves. Even with Soul Search, partially retrieved bits would remain inscrutable.
Even if fully retrieved, comprehension is not guaranteed; some spend their whole lives mastering mathematics but can’t decode an accountant’s dark accounts.
Negriss couldn’t help but commend: "Silver Coin definitely deserves praise; this confidentiality method is remarkable. How about you? Why did you come here? How did you arrive here? What race are you?"
Despite Diakos’s Goblin appearance, his name indicates he isn’t a native Goblin; he’s a Divine Star Descendant who joined the Silver Light Mercantile Company, adding complexity to his identity.
"I am a Divine Star Descendant, arriving here for market expansion; I was transported here via our clan’s Carrying Beast." Diakos explained.
"You’re a Divine Star Descendant? Then how did you join the Silver Light Mercantile Company?" This puzzled even Anthony. This was their first encounter with Divine Star Descendants since arriving here, yet Silver Coin has such a Vice-Chairman under his command?
How did they connect and successfully join? Why hasn’t Silver Coin mentioned it? Were they masked by Ange again?
"Recently a Light Disaster occurred, harming many in my tribe. We had to hide on the Plane’s shadowed side, unable to access sunlight. Prolonged deprivation causes illness, impairing normal activity."
"Hence, I wondered if there was something to lessen sunlight’s intensity, allowing us to access sunlight through that material. I was willing to trade equivalent items when I heard the chairman’s voice in my mind."
"He said if I’m willing to adhere to the God of Business’s principle of equivalent exchange, he can establish trade relations. Thus I traded some Origin Crystal Stones for Light-shielding Cloaks, enabling normal activity when worn."
"My tribe saw my cloak and wanted them too, so I collected their Crystal Stones and bought more cloaks from the chairman. The chairman advised retaining moderate profit, instructing me to collect two hundred Crystals, give him one hundred fifty, and keep the rest."
"Making such a profit in a single transaction, I then eagerly requested the chairman to teach me more trade rules. The chairman said I could form my own trading team, requiring only a third management and channel fee, the rest remaining mine."
"If a new trade route is established, I could share profits from the whole route, prompting my arrival here." Diakos continued with eyes agleaming, exuding an aura befitting a merchant blinded by money.
