Foreign Land Reclamation By a Vegetable-growing Skeleton-Chapter 1717 - 1278: People from Gemez Fortress
Chapter 1717: Chapter 1278: People from Gemez Fortress
"I knew it, you dead skull; you’re not at all interested in carrying out the God of Tree’s task. You’re just trying to create a rootstock to graft your crops onto," Negris said irritably.
Negris knew something was fishy. Not only was Ange not resisting the task given by the God of Tree, he was actively and happily engaging in it. Originally, Negris thought that Ange was excited about growing new things, but he underestimated him once again.
Ange wasn’t interested in the task for the task’s sake; it was purely because Kadiz had given him a plant capable of surviving in this environment and being cultivated into a rootstock.
A rootstock is a plant used for grafting. Some crops produce delicious fruit, but their roots are not well-developed, or their stems are too fragile, there are always various flaws. In such cases, the fruit-bearing branches can be grafted onto more robust plants, which are referred to as rootstocks.
Negris knew that watermelon seedlings grafted onto winter melon vines have significant improvements in their root systems and resistance to pests and diseases. He also knew that grape seedlings grafted onto other rootstocks would not suffer from grape root gall bacteria, which grapes are prone to getting.
However, there are certain grape fruits with special molds that can make a special wine – Noble Rot Wine.
This kind of knowledge was summed up by those planting masters at the Plane Grain Seed Summit, but Ange only wanted to create rootstocks to graft his crops.
Cutting open the bark of the rootstock, Ange directly manifested a bud from the Chaos Mist, wrapped it under the bark, leaving just a small opening, and then activated the Instant Death Halo.
Using the Chaos Mist to manifest a bud is incredibly extravagant, but Ange currently didn’t have a Dimensional Space to leave seeds in; otherwise, he could have grown the plants there to save on Chaos Mist.
For now, it was still small-scale grafting. When it came to large-scale cultivation, the wasted Chaos Mist would be unimaginable.
The outer bark of the rootstock had a strong insulating ability. Even when scorched with a temperature of three thousand degrees, the bark showed no change. The opening was on the shady side of the rootstock, with no direct sunlight, the cut was small, and Ange blocked the hole with air.
Under multiple layers of protection, the bud was not scorched but quickly dried up and withered.
"Did it fail? What happened?" Negris asked curiously.
Ange kicked away the footprints on the ground and said, "It grew too fast."
The bud had not yet connected to the rootstock and had no nutrients to supply it; when accelerated, it withered.
Trying again, this time, Ange did not use a bud but instead manifested a branch and directly wrapped it under the rootstock’s bark.
Without using the Instant Death Halo, he simply had to wait. After waiting for more than twenty hours, Ange’s consciousness swept over to find the branch had connected to the rootstock. Once nutrients were being supplied, he stomped down on the footprint again.
One by one, bud points emerged from the surrounding rootstocks.
During these twenty-plus hours, Ange, of course, couldn’t just stand around idly. He grafted valuable crops onto most of the rootstocks.
With two rootstocks left, Ange piled up star soil, inserted them on top, and then stepped down on the footprint, accelerating them with the Instant Death Halo for over twenty hours until both rootstocks turned into two large shrubs.
Good, now there’s more rootstock ready to use.
Watching Ange happily dividing the shrub branches, Negris sighed, deciding it didn’t matter; they were only there to help Little Angel, and if it went wrong, it would be on Little Angel.
Thinking this, Negris asked, "Where are those two with Little Angel?"
"They ran off early; she doesn’t like being with you. You’re always criticizing her," Anthony said.
"What’s wrong with giving her advice? She’s grown up but still can’t sit or stand properly. She can’t stay still for even a few minutes, wriggling around," Negris said with annoyance.
Far away, Little Angel and Little Zombie were soaking in the Molten Fire on the surface of God Star, only their heads peeking out, quietly watching a large area ahead that suddenly became very calm.
Little Angel could perform Star Shifting, so as long as it was within her sight, she could move instantly from leaving the foliage to the ground in a flash, silently.
For two days, they had been soaking in the Molten Fire. In fact, where they and Little Zombie were situated was not entirely Molten Fire anymore. Part of it had transformed into her large wings, but its color and attributes remained identical to Molten Fire, showing no difference from the outside.
The light disaster caused by Ange’s intrusion into God Star led to constant bubbling on the surface. Little Angel and Little Zombie were accustomed to this bubbling situation, but now, a region ahead had suddenly and bizarrely stopped bubbling.
Realizing something was off, Little Angel and Little Zombie quickly ducked into the Molten Fire and the wings, only exposing half their heads.
After watching for a while, that strange, calm non-bubbling area began to move slowly, moving in the direction of Little Angel and Little Zombie.
Little Angel hurriedly retracted her wings, wrapping both her and Little Zombie up.
A peculiar stasis swept over their position, cooling the Molten Fire’s temperature significantly, and even eliminating the bubbles.
Little Angel held her breath until that feeling of stasis slid past them, moving towards the direction of the Tree of Ten Thousand Realms.
Little Angel and Little Zombie exchanged a glance and, without saying a word, nodded at each other with full understanding. Little Zombie virtualized, and Little Angel’s surroundings of ’Molten Fire’ began to slide, carrying both Little Angel and Little Zombie forward.
Following the calm area from afar, thanks to the light disaster bubbles Ange had triggered, if it had been the same calm situation when they first arrived, they wouldn’t have noticed this strange area.
They continued to follow it for a distance until they watched it slip into a giant hole between the roots.
The Tree of Ten Thousand Realms canopy covered a third of God Star, yet its roots extended over a small portion of God Star, forming a vast land.
At the junction between the ’land’ and the Molten Fire, countless root tendrils formed hollow spaces, each able to easily accommodate a Master Plane.
Little Angel followed inside, catching up to the depths of the cavity, and at a sloped area, that calm area suddenly swelled like a piece of cloth. An upright, humanoid shape floated towards the slope.
While floating, the ’cloth’ draped over the humanoid slipped down like water, flowing back into the Molten Fire, revealing this humanoid figure.
On the slope, a voice resonated with laughter: "Haha, someone from Gemez Fortress is here."
The person floating toward the slope asked in confusion, "What’s Gemez Fortress?"
"Surprising, isn’t it? The living beings here call our God Star ’Gemez Fortress’. Let’s just go with it from now on. You be Ge Castle, I’ll be Mai Bao, and someone else can be Zi Castle. Hahaha," the voice on the slope laughed heartily.
