Freedom Jumper-Chapter 115: An Old Friend
Chapter 115 - An Old Friend
"Wait! He could be our enemy!!"
Not bothering with the meaningless words coming from Niko, Elijah flew in the direction of the sound. A pointed spike of white bone curved around the gaps of the trees, and just as it was about to strike Elijah's face, it exploded into smithereens with a single punch.
A loud clicking and screeching noise came from the ground – from the beasts that had become entranced by the vibrations it had absorbed. Splinters of bone were flying down to the ground below Elijah's levitating body, and in the moment of pause, he grabbed the rest of the bone spike and pulled the beast towards him using a heavy amount of mana.
Bam!
Previously, Elijah had found a hole that housed a familiar looking face.
Richter.
However, to show the man who he only saw once, the power he had been given while on the brink of death, Elijah created a display that would surely cement a memory into Richter's brain.
"Kid... How in the gods did you get here?!"
There was not a single beast left, only charred and dismantled corpses. Richter quickly received Elijah's explanation before returning to the ground. By the sound of literally nothing in the air, there were more abominations on their way, perhaps hiding behind the trees waiting for the right moment. Although that was a stretch, the one advantage the humans had over these beasts were their obvious and sole desire to kill. The close history has proved this fact.
However, the possibility of these abominations having adaptable brains is not impossible as they have maybe not shown the full extent of their abilities yet...
Or maybe there are stronger bone reaper's?
Richter began running through the overgrown and cluttered jungle while Elijah and Niko followed behind. Every single breath was heard in between the rummaging of large leaf plants that blocked the way.
Of course, the plan was set in motion. Both Elijah and Niko had on their respective clothing, and as Richter had explained, would be entering the kingdom through the closest gate – one for some reason did not see as much action compared to the others.
Niko, with his oversized gray and red cloak that sat on top of a simple black tank top was brushing the long sides away from him to make sure he did not trip with every step. His pants used to be the same way until he cut them with one of the large rune-engraved knives attached to the innards of his cloak.
Elijah, with a two piece jacket and pants close to the same colors as Niko's new garments, except for the gaping hole in the white tank top – covered by the buttoned long sleeve jacket, was holding onto his belt tightly wrapped around his waist. The ball with a button was the only mystery item as it did not have a rune engraved into it like the rest. However, Elijah surmised this was a grenade with a rune carved into the inside of the shell. With a single click of a button – that was also blocked by a pin, an immeasurable amount of destruction could occur.
"Stop! Before we enter, I need you to know there might be a problem. We have to show our identity emblems, which identify us as a citizen of this kingdom..." Richter was hiding behind a tree covered in vines while speaking to Elijah and Niko. His suggestion ended with them causing a distraction in case things went south. A distraction that would garner the attention of the gatekeeper.
"Was it a good haul?" A tall man wearing blue and white garments military garments casually said while looking at his piece of paper.
"No, these kids don't deserve to fight in these conditions. Have you gotten any info about the cause of these new beasts?" Richter asked while pulling out a bronze hexagon emblem with a fancy Gion Kingdom design on the front and an engraved name on the back.
"Beats me... while I do hear quite a lot as the gatekeeper, I still know nothing of those atrocities... Hey, where are the kids' emblems?"
This question caused Richter to slightly hesitate. "As you can see, their clothes are severely damaged, they lost them while we were running for our lives..."
"Hmmm... I'm gonna have to call a captain down here. In the meantime, you will have to wait. Sorry, just protocol."
"That's okay, I understand." Richter sighed while playing the agreement card.

Suddenly, the gatekeeper alongside the group of three looked up into the forest at the rumbling of trees. Birds were quacking and flapping their wings wildly which signified a disturbance.
The gatekeeper pulled a small rectangular box out of his jacket pocket, and began talking into it as if it was a type of communication device. "Beast disturbance, tower eight, send backup."
"I suggest you tell me now if you are from another kingdom, or else you will be left outside to die!" The gatekeeper pointed violently, as if now afraid to cut down these people with his silver sword that lay sheathed on his waist.
"They are not from this kingdom. But are seeking refuge from their previous kingdom." Richter quickly replied while glancing between the forest, and the gatekeeper who stood in front of an open gate. "Please let us inside, they are children."
"This is the hardest part of the job you know... Sometimes the law is not something that should be followed. But, since I have never seen any of you before, it will not matter when you di—"
Elijah's fists were tightening and losing with every sentence that came out of this gatekeeper's mouth. This man was nothing more than a pawn who got to sit on the edge of an infinite cliff every single day. Just as he was about to finish and walk through the open gate to close it, Elijah sped towards the gatekeeper with a fist that was just barely glowing.
Bam!
A knock to the head caused the man to slump to the ground.
Richter showed a baffled face but begins to move forward when the corner of his head sees a beast unlike what they had seen before. This beast was an amalgamation of what looked like different bodies that it had picked up within the forest. Legs and arms sticking out of multiple parts of its torso as it trucked forward with a slow speed. Its height was the most menacing part, standing at over ten feet tall.
An autonomous wrecking ball designed for destruction.
"Inside now! Run to the left, behind the storage house!" Richter exclaimed after pulling a large metal lever that shut the gate with a loud sound.
DING!
In between the stone and wood paneled storage house and the stone brick wall was a small space filled with tall withered grass — from the lack of sunlight. There, Richter stood behind Elijah and Niko while viewing the unfolding scene.
Not even thirty seconds passed by as six men with different types of equipment stormed into the treeless opening in front of the gate entrance. Confusion of what type of beast this was created chatter that caused the leader in the back to shut them up. This was after they had grabbed the unconscious guard's body and pulled him to safety.
"Damn... it would have been better if he died." Elijah muttered before receiving a stare from Richter.
"THE WALL WILL FALL! GET READY TO FIRE!"
Fire? What could a kingdom possibly be firing?
Rocks and rubble were thrown to the floor, including the walking path that stood above the gate and wall made of layered stone brick. It took multiple tries, but eventually, the beast was revealed.
