Freedom Jumper-Chapter 154: Only The Beginning
Chapter 154 - Only The Beginning
"Who are you targeting!"
The man dressed in all black kneeled to the floor — atop the center of the mound, unveiled his cloak to show black ashy spots all over his bluish-gray skin. "Not just one, but the best of the children. Astallac... Lostent... Tellesta... Sohana... Vanderman... and many more. I honestly... don't care. You can kill me..."
Harsh breaths signifying a disruption in the lungs was plainly obvious to Elijah. Although there were names he recognized, there were also names he had never heard before. This did not come surprising as there were 3000 thirteen year olds holed up in the barracks.
"Where do you come from?"
The man began coughing from laughter whilst chunks of blood and black goo came from his mouth. "Are you... Stupid? I'm an Elf?"
Ignoring his statement that attested to Elijah's obvious lack of knowledge about the world, he asked one last question. "What are you fighting for?!"
...Only to receive an answer that made absolutely no sense.
"...Restitution."
Thump.
As it turned out, the man had used his power on his own body – sending a cloud of ashes onto the wet ground while the rest went with the wind.
Thus marked the end of a dramatic battle – a battle that Elijah would have easily lost if he decided to play around. Thankfully, he had a brain...
Moreover, the distress that was taking place within the battlefield had not waned even a single bit. Over and over again, the strikes of lightning that now seemed to be unnatural in this mana-amplified world, were mixing with the constant number of fireworks going off in the distance.
One action that needed to be done was absolutely true. Making sure Jonah, Curtis, and the others – if they were even within this game, were kept alive.
"Lith! Are you still here?!"
Quickly, a black haired boy with hazel eyes revealed himself by jumping onto the slope of the mound. "Yes! I-I saw everything Elijah. Why are you hiding your powers? You could be recognized by the kingdom as the greatest young talent we have to offer!"
"If you tell anyone, you will die." Elijah was quite annoyed after he had thought this kid had some sense to him. He knew he was seen while quickly defeating the second cloaked attacker, and now he decided to bring it up?
"Oh."
"I'm sure you heard the man, we have to save the others."
"Why? Why can't we save ourselves?"
This question hit Elijah like none other before him. Suddenly, he had caught himself growing as a person – a feeling that had embarrassed him when he thought about the past trauma's he had gone through.
But...
There was Niko out there, someone likely in danger, and someone who could only relate to him as another victim of the dead gods' choices...
"If you want to be a disgrace to your kingdom, then be my guest. But... I will be going into the battle to hopefully stop the people he had just mentioned from dying."
Elijah set off down the mound, and into the symphony of fireworks and lightning strikes that blanketed the night sky. Likely, there was someone with a weather manipulation power as the dark clouds had been secluding this specific area for some time now, without ever moving an inch...
Lith was riding Elijah's back just like before while a thick spear of water was held within his hand. While stepping on the moist and wet ground cover, they could only hear the sounds of screaming amongst the battlefield – screaming likely had nothing to do with a flag being stolen...
After letting Lith off his back, Elijah took his directions – flying soundlessly through the branches of the trees. Second by second, he slowly approached a group of fully dressed men in black who were effortlessly destroying the lives of anyone they had made contact with.
Boom!
A fist was thrusted into the head of a black figure, and sent it flying into a tree resulting in the man's death.
The second black figure had been pierced by a spear of water that dematerialized into clear red liquid seeping from a now lifeless body.
One by one, every elf was finished off alongside him looting every single body. Interesting knives, shortswords, and a few runic grenades were stuffed into his spatial storage around his ankle. Although, this required him to feel around in the spatial storage for a spatial ring that was empty.
"Ohh! Oh... Th-thank you..." Many dirtied, beaten, and bloodied contestants showed their appreciation. Unfortunately, not a single one of them was from his own team...
"Lith!" Elijah called Lith to return to him once the coast was clear. "Stay close if you don't want to die." This time, while traveling through the dense forest, the now group of six stuck together with their weapons trembling in their sorrowful hands.
...
"FIGHT!!!"
Not too long ago, Niko had been deftly battling an enemy team directly in front of their flag. This was after they had defeated several different groups of people and saw how after their fireworks went off – not a single person came to save them.

Something felt very wrong about this forest whether it be the professors and assistants not stepping in, and the weather that only seemed to grow in intensity.
Then, it happened.
From within the depths of the darkness. Several injured figures dressed in all black were illuminated by the lightning, and instantly told a story of danger to Niko and his group.
Niko was heavily assisted by Declan and Ashton's telepathic abilities, while also having support from an ice mage known as Kemp. Alongside the niche magitech the rest of his squad had, he thought they were well equipped. Especially the boy known as Zain, a wielder of an ice sword and swift shoes.
However, it was all meant for nothing in the face of these older spies who had far more physical power than them.
Even Zain, who had shown his talent with a sword, was struggling, and ended up taking a near fatal blow that led to half his left arm being chopped off.
Niko's squad was only saved in its dire moments when a speedster had arrived on the scene – whose cold breath was seen in the air with every thrust of her large knife. Bodies dropped one by one because of her talents...
"Jonah! Help us!" Niko yelled at the top of his exhausted lungs when seeing a familiar dressed figure running through the illumination of the stormy sky.
Attached to Jonah's wrists were shields of gray crystal, that only slightly weighed him down. There were tinges of blood on the edges, signifying he had gone through a struggle just to get where he was currently.
"I know! I saw your friend by the way. But he's probably dead..." Deep down, Jonah felt terrible for the ignorance he had displayed. At first, he did not believe a single word coming from Elijah's mouth. Shortly after, he ran towards the light of the fireworks after seeing his teammates being killed one after the other.
"Dammit! I know he wouldn't just die like that! You are lying!"
"It doesn't matter, even if he is alive, there is nothing we can do but focus on what is in front of us!"
Jonah's hand pointed into a dense area of trees where a hilly section began to form.
Illuminated by a chain of lightning strikes, seven figures dressed in the same black outfits with flared and disheveled fabric coming from underneath their arms were either limping, walking normally, and moving the blade of their swords and knives through the creases in their palms.
The notable figures that stood with Niko were himself, Jonah, Noir, Kemp, Noir, Theo, and Thurgon. All of which had come from different directions and were now grouping up together in a desperate attempt to save their lives.
