Freedom Jumper-Chapter 165: Playing With The Stragglers
Chapter 165 - Playing With The Stragglers
In a northern forest of solely chaos and destruction resides a boy with exactly a dozen knives, using a supernatural ability to lay waste to the beast horde.
The boy known as Ronny, a sixteen year old that is just about to return to the Tavenas Academy, is using modern advances to his advantage.
Each time a knife strikes or misses its target, it is effortlessly pulled back to its wielder waiting for another throw. Inside his mind, elephants are running in circles of happiness. Pure joy from his genny being well spent!
To the left of Ronny, further up into the battlefield, is Henry Axemen. And in his hand lays a titanium great axe, flickering in his bare hands with the energy of a storm. After slicing a few heads off the necks of the Kobolds, he spent a few seconds to glance towards a prospect he deemed valuable enough. A potential mentee to be nurtured into a bright future.
Ronny wields the ability of magnetism. Within a forest of non-magnetic objects, his control deepens as full focus can be put on his knives.
Shining through the miniscule rays of light, a collection of various different runic knives traveled through the air.
"FALLBACK RONNY!" Henry was watching the scene unfold in front of him while running with lightning creating cracks in the earth beside him. The only method capable of halting the growing group of beasts.
Beforehand, Henry had a rough estimate of around 150 beasts. All running from their dedicated cave systems.
But now, the number was beyond even 250. After they had slain a decent chunk.
Clinching the metal handle of his axe, Henry muttered to himself while running towards the rest of his caravan. "Dammit... looks like another evolution has occurred..."
All together, the caravan began retreating as fast as they could. The realization caught Henry quickly after they had regrouped.
Light was their objective. Almost over twenty minutes ago, they had sent two resource gatherers on their carriages back, eyeing to hold them off for as long as possible – before powerful figures from the outpost stepped in.
No light was seen, which was protocol in these forests. Anytime backup was requested, a bright blue fire would be seen somewhere in the distance.
Frostfire was the name, and came from the leaves of a very special flower that grew in very few places..
The Blue Rose.
Within each petal is a mystery compound that paints any fire blue, while also amplifying its heat. Blue rose petals are grounded up in a bowl, then mixed into a torch soaked in beeswax. A tactic used by backup as a beacon of safety.
After thousands of years of using fireworks as the beacon of safety, Gion realized it only caused more harm than good — luring even more beasts from the surrounding areas.
"We can't run forever!!" Songa pointed out the obvious while at the back of the group. Releasing violent gusts of wind with her sword, she continually pushed back the rampart beasts.
"I see it!!" Joffrey, who was the fastest runner of the bunch with his lightweight but muscular frame, voiced his discovery.
The hearts of the group warmed with this fact, and now only had to run for another couple of minutes.
The worry was the king kobolds whose reptilian skin created a spiked crown on top of their heads. A powerful evolution at the yellow core with an immense amount of strength and a simple understanding of magic. At least a couple dozen were these king kobolds, running in the midst of their groups with caveman-like weapons in their hands.
Elijah was running low on stamina, and fizzled into the crowd of peacekeepers and adventurers who came to save the day. With numbers in the range of 40-50, everyone was confident. Especially when the giant had joined the group, albeit having to annoyingly bat a few branches out of his eyesight.
"If you wish to leave, a carriage will take you back! If you wish to stay, then stay!" Words requiring an immediate decision were voiced by the carriage drivers who had brought the large group through the forest.
Elijah knew what he wanted, action. So he decided to grab Niko, and run to the far right side of the battle. Hope to catch the outside straggler was boiling in his heart. Not only would this greatly help the defenders, but it would also give him a chance to use his abilities away from most people.
After catching their breaths, a short sprint was made to the east. The pine trees were shaking just slightly from the ongoing battle, and even many pine needles were slowly falling to the floor.
"There! Do you see it Elijah!"
Elijah increased his speed with small usage of his flight ability – elongating his strides into a beautiful arc. "I'll take the one on the right!"
Two bears were running on all fours, no longer bending into the brown tree trunks with their fur slowly being covered in icicles. Elijah and Niko knew they were doing something, or maybe it was just a simple armor enhancement they would have to destroy.
Pulsating in his hand, a pointed spear of water was created – spinning more rapidly by the second. Small drops of water were soaking the sleeve of Elijah's leather black jacket.
Whoosh!
The Spear whizzed through the air creating a sound of wind being split. The revolution of the spear had increased its speed, and allowed it to just barely pierce the bear's stomach.
Seconds later, it received a simple and loud punch to the place of impact, slightly damaging Elijah's fist, but also destroying the organs of the bear.
"Dammit, even with better control, my fists are still being damaged against its body of ice!"
Thump.
Niko had very quickly exterminated his bear with a simple beam of fire. Because of both elements being each other's weakness, the end was decided by whoever threw the most power spell. Being that the bear was only focused on running forwards, this much was not even in the range of being difficult.
Many more bear's were seen coming their way, however, each one was spread out while also a quarter of them were already injured. Truly, they were at the perfect point to catch the stragglers.
It was either a thick shield of water, a spear of water, or a wave of water that would be used as Elijah's initiation attack. A powerful balance was created with this strategy, and always ended with a punch that tore through the bear's skin.
"Let's move up!" Elijah expressed his desire to move forward for more action instead of falling back. The stragglers had begun to wane, which likely meant somewhere powerful to not let a single beast escape was nearby.
Punch after punch, Elijah's fists began to drop with blood that he did not bother to heal. Sure, the bear's fur spiked with ice was damaging him, but not completely dismantling his fist. Healing it now would only be a waste of mana.
"What in the gods am I watching right now?!" To the west, closer to the center of the group, was a warrior who stood with a shiny broadsword, and long black hair dangling down the back of his neck like a mullet.
The scene in question was Elijah and Niko wreaking havoc on the bears and kobolds.
Approaching in the distance was a meandering king kobold, calmly surveying the area. Its feet indented the ground, flattening any flower and tall grass unfortunate enough to fall under its heavy steps.
