From A Producer To A Global Superstar-Chapter 382: Meeting Davido
Shina leaned forward slightly in the back seat of the SUV, his camera resting against his knee as he looked toward Dayo with narrowed eyes that carried equal parts curiosity and suspicion. The car moved steadily through traffic while the city outside shifted between busy commercial streets and calmer residential roads, yet his attention remained fixed entirely on the man sitting opposite him.
"Boss," Shina said with a small laugh that carried the tone of someone who had already asked the same question too many times, "you still never tell me where we dey go."
Dayo glanced up from his phone and met Shina’s gaze calmly. A faint smile touched his face, the kind that usually appeared whenever he knew something others did not.
"You go see."
Shina exhaled loudly and leaned back into his seat.
"Every time na the same answer," he replied. "Since morning I don ask you like five times."
Sharon, who sat beside Dayo while reviewing schedules on her tablet, lifted her head and watched the exchange with quiet amusement.
"You’ll know soon, and also don’t bother trying to convince him to tell you as you will just get teased the more," she said.
Shina shook his head slowly. He couldn’t believe that Dayo was choosing not to tell him where they were going. Who knew that a superstar could also be this stubborn? He sighed, accepting his fate.
"That one mean say something big dey happen."
Dayo’s smile widened slightly before he leaned forward a bit, his voice shifting into smooth, relaxed Pidgin.
"Shey you dey fear say I wan sell you?"
For a brief moment Shina simply stared at him, then he burst into laughter so loudly that the driver glanced briefly into the rearview mirror.
"Ah!"
He pointed at Dayo while still laughing.
"Your Pidgin strong well well. I know say you dey speak am for online videos but hearing am live like this different entirely."
Dayo shrugged lightly.
"You go understand soon."
Shina lifted the camera again and began recording casually.
"Well anything wey it be, I trust you."
The SUV continued forward through Lagos traffic while the convoy of vehicles accompanying them moved smoothly along the road. The sunlight outside had begun to soften into the warm glow of late afternoon, painting the city in shades of gold and amber as people continued their daily routines across sidewalks and roadside stalls.
As the vehicles left the busier districts and entered the quieter parts of the island, Shina slowly leaned closer to the window while filming the environment outside. The buildings here looked very different from the crowded streets they had passed earlier. Tall compound walls stretched along the road, luxury vehicles occasionally passed in the opposite direction, and the entire atmosphere carried the quiet privacy of neighborhoods built for wealth and influence.
Shina lowered the camera slightly and frowned.
"This area no be normal place."
Sharon looked up briefly.
"Not everything is normal," she said with a small smile.
Shina continued watching the road ahead while the convoy finally turned into a wide street lined with tall trees and elegant homes hidden behind security gates.
Something about the surroundings felt strangely familiar to him, like he had seen it before. He tried guessing where he had seen it, but he couldn’t just point his mind to where.
He shrugged. He would know in a few minutes after all. The gate was already opening for them. He squinted deeper as the vehicles slowed near a large gated compound.
The gates opened.
The convoy drove inside.
Shina’s curiosity intensified immediately.
Several luxury cars were parked neatly along the driveway, and the house itself carried the unmistakable style of a place built for both comfort and creative work. A few people moved around the compound while faint music drifted through the air from somewhere inside the building.
Shina stepped out of the SUV and instinctively began filming again while walking beside Dayo and Sharon toward the entrance.
The more he looked around, the more the strange feeling in his chest grew stronger.
"I don see this place before," he muttered quietly.
Yet no matter how hard he tried, he could not immediately place where that memory came from.
Inside the building the atmosphere changed again.
The interior looked like a hybrid between a lounge and what he would describe as luxury at its peak. He couldn’t help but feel a slight shiver down his spine as he gazed around, looking at the whole setup.
A few people stood nearby talking casually.
Shina continued filming while his mind raced. He looked at the people.
Something about everything felt incredibly familiar.
Still he could not pinpoint it.
Dayo walked forward calmly while Sharon followed beside him.
Then the door on the far side of the room opened.
Someone walked in.
Shina’s brain froze—literally froze. He blinked once.
Then again because he couldn’t believe what and who he was seeing right in front of him.
Standing there was Davido.
The camera in Shina’s hand trembled slightly as realization finally struck him with full force.
"Wait..."
His voice dropped into stunned disbelief. He looked totally dumbfounded and unable to utter any syllable.
Davido looked at him and immediately began laughing.
"Relax bro," he said, patting him on the back.
Shina slowly turned toward Dayo.
"Boss..."
He raised both hands toward his head in disbelief.
"You carry me come meet Davido?"
The room filled with laughter as Davido walked forward and greeted Dayo with a warm handshake that quickly turned into a friendly embrace.
"My guy," Davido said with a wide grin. "Finally. To God I thought you might not be coming."
Dayo nodded calmly.
"Good to see you. How would I not come? You chatted me up and I said yes, so I have to honor that."
Davido stepped back slightly, studying him with clear curiosity.
"You know when I first sent that message I wasn’t even sure you would reply."
Dayo’s expression remained relaxed.
"Why wouldn’t I reply?" 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
Davido shrugged. He knew what he had gone through when it came to international artists. He had featured a few before, but they always had an air around them, so he was expecting the same from Dayo, which surprisingly he didn’t have.
"You be JD. People at your level sometimes no dey answer messages like that."
Dayo chuckled softly, understanding him. After all, there were a lot of incidents like this in the past.
"I know you too."
The simple answer seemed to surprise Davido slightly before he laughed again.
"Fair enough."
Davido turned slightly and gestured toward the group behind him.
"Let me introduce—"
Before he could finish the sentence Dayo nodded toward one of the men standing nearby.
"You’re the one who handled the arrangement on that last stadium show during Davido’s show. Benjamin, nice to finally meet you."
The man blinked in surprise.
"Yes... I am."
Dayo turned toward another person standing beside him.
"And you worked on the mix for the track that charted last summer. Jeffrey, also popularly called JJ."
The producer’s eyes widened slightly.
"You know that?"
Dayo nodded once. After all, he had done his research. That was kind of his thing. No matter what he did, he always liked to plan ahead.
"Of course."
The reactions around the room began shifting quickly as several of Davido’s team members exchanged surprised looks. They clearly had not expected someone of Dayo’s global status to recognize them personally.
Davido crossed his arms with a grin while watching the reactions around him.
"You came prepared."
Dayo shrugged slightly.
"If I’m coming to work with people, I prefer to know who I’m working with."
That answer changed the atmosphere of the room immediately. What had started as curiosity quickly turned into genuine respect.
One of Davido’s close associates laughed quietly.
"That kind thing dey rare."
Davido nodded slowly.
"True."
After all, not everyone was as thoughtful as Dayo. The fact that he even went to Davido’s house showed he respected him more.
Just then the studio door opened again and another man entered with visible excitement.
"Davido! How far? I get one mad beat wey I just create."
He walked in energetically while holding his laptop.
"I get something I wan show you."
The man stopped suddenly when he noticed Dayo standing there.
His eyes widened.
"Wait..."
Davido laughed.
"You just come at the right time."
The producer stepped closer slowly.
"JD?"
Dayo nodded.
"I know your work."
The producer blinked again in disbelief.
"Me?"
"You produced that track with the layered percussion pattern," Dayo continued calmly. "The arrangement was clean... eh... what was the name of that track again sef... ah yes—All On Me."
The producer stared for a moment before shaking his head with an amazed smile.
"I wasn’t expecting that."
Davido laughed loudly.
"You see why I like this guy already?"
At this point Davido had already calmed down. Even though he was a star and older than Dayo, Dayo carried an aura of someone beyond his age.
The producer held up his laptop excitedly.
"I actually just made a new beat."
Davido leaned back slightly.
"Now?"
"Yes," the producer replied eagerly. "I was coming to show you."
Dayo glanced toward the studio booth through the glass wall.
"Let’s hear it."
The simple suggestion immediately shifted the energy in the room. Conversations stopped and everyone began moving toward the studio space with renewed excitement.
After all, they had heard Dayo sing, and Davido was actually planning on asking Dayo for a verse as he was about to release a new album soon, because the last one didn’t meet his expectations. So he was looking for something special, and that was when he saw the news about Dayo.
That was when his mind clicked and he consulted his team, and they all supported the idea, but they didn’t know how to approach him. Then Davido used his intellect and reposted the video about Dayo and messaged him after that.
Now during the conversation he had been thinking about how to bring it up, and it happened naturally.
Davido smiled.
"Oya nah, the studio is ready. Let’s do this."
Shina followed behind them while recording everything, his heart still racing from the realization of what he was witnessing.
Only hours earlier he had been wondering where Dayo was taking him.
Now he was standing inside a recording studio with two of the most influential artists in the industry as they prepared to create something together.
As the group entered the studio room and the producer began setting up the track on the system, Shina quietly whispered toward his camera.
"This one go break internet."
He was still shaking with excitement from seeing Davido.
