From Evil Sect Leader to Doctor-Chapter 322 - 297: Uncontrollable Laughter
Chunliang said again, "The GPS brought us here, we parked!"
After waiting for a while and still getting no response, Hua Zhuyue suggested, "Why don’t we go find Zhou Shaohong first?"
Chunliang said, "I’ll go inside and take a look first." He climbed up the wall next to the iron gate.
Hua Zhuyue pointed to the camera on the gate, indicating that everything he did should have been seen by the people inside.
Chunliang didn’t care about any cameras; surveillance was not meant to protect criminals.
Just as Chunliang was about to jump over the wall, he saw a little girl with braids walking over, holding a wolf dog as big as a calf. The little girl raised her head to look at Chunliang, and the wolf dog growled, ready to charge at this uninvited guest.
Chunliang had to temporarily become a fence-sitter, feeling a bit awkward, he grinned and greeted, "Hi! Are you Zichun?"
The little girl looked at him warily, "Who are you? Why are you climbing over our gate? Speak up!"
Chunliang said, "I’m a friend of your father’s..."
"Liar!" Huang Zichun released the dog leash, and the wolf dog charged towards the wall, straight at Chunliang. This trained wolf dog could easily attack Chunliang on the wall.
Just as the wolf dog was about to leap, Chunliang’s eyes suddenly turned murderous, and the formidable pressure crushed the inner heart of the wolf dog from all directions.
Chunliang let out a roar, and the wolf dog was so frightened by his aura that it abruptly stopped during its charge, rolling on the spot due to inertia.
Huang Zichun hadn’t figured out what was going on yet, but Chunliang had already jumped down from the wall and was striding towards the wolf dog. The wolf dog, having gotten up from the ground, saw him approaching continuously, and retreated repeatedly in fear, whimpering as if it had suffered a great grievance.
Huang Zichun, somewhat scared, shouted, "Da Wei, attack!"
The wolf dog named Da Wei, not only didn’t charge at Chunliang but instead turned heel and ran away in fear.
Chunliang smiled at Huang Zichun and said, "You don’t need to be afraid, I’m here to help you."
At this moment, a burst of laughter came from deep within the courtyard.
Hahaha, hahaha...
Chunliang frowned, the laughter sounded abnormal. He looked in the direction of the laughter.
He saw a tall and thin man limping towards them, holding a cleaver in his hand. He tried to put on a fierce expression, but he couldn’t control his laughter. Walking while laughing.
Hua Zhuyue, hearing the commotion inside, also climbed up the wall due to concern for Chunliang, and was shocked by the scene in front of her. The man holding the knife was Huang Jiucheng.
Huang Jiucheng wanted to protect his daughter, threatening while laughing, "Get out of here...ha...haha...or...I will...chop you up..."
They say laughter makes you ten years younger, but there needs to be a limit to everything. Laughter is no exception. Laughing out of place, without reason, and uncontrollably, that’s an illness.
In traditional Chinese medicine, Huang Jiucheng’s symptom is called uncontrollable laughter.
"The Medical Classic of the Yellow Emperor" states:
The liver stores blood, the blood houses the soul; if the liver is deficient, one is fearful; if excess, one is angry. The spleen stores the nutrients, the nutrients house the thought; if the spleen is deficient, the limbs are weak, and the organs are uneasy; if excess, the abdomen is distended and there is difficulty in urination. The heart stores the spirit; if the heart is deficient, one is sad; if excess, one continuously laughs. The lung stores the Qi; if the lung is deficient, the nose is blocked and there is difficulty in breathing; if excess, one pants and sighs with a full chest. The kidneys store essence; if kidney Qi is deficient, one faints; if excess, one is bloated, and the organs are uneasy.
One must carefully discern the condition of the five organs to understand whether they are deficient or excessive, and carefully regulate them.
The "Basic Questions on Regulating the Classics" also records similar findings.
The symptoms of the deficiency and excess of the five organs are clearly and meticulously recorded in Chinese medical classics.
Uncontrollable laughter is an excess condition of the heart.
Chunliang assessed the man so thin that a gust of wind could knock him over, confirming he was undoubtedly Huang Jiucheng. He sighed internally, Huang Jiucheng used to be a legendary figure in private lending, who would have thought he’d fall to such a state, he looked at Huang Jiucheng with a hint of sarcasm and said, "Then come and chop me!"
Huang Jiucheng was from a long line of tricksters, adept at bluffing and deception, but now his physical condition did not allow it. In his current state, he struggled even to hold a knife, let alone attack someone; he couldn’t control his laughter at all.
To those unaware of the situation, it might seem strange why this person was always laughing, as if there was something amusing. But Chunliang heard the disruption in his internal functions; Huang Jiucheng’s voice was hoarse, probably due to prolonged laughter causing his throat to be congested with blood.
Huang Jiucheng waved at his daughter while walking forward, but sadly his legs were weak, and with a soft step, he collapsed to the ground with a thud, the cleaver flying out of his hand.
The cleaver happened to fall at the feet of Huang Zichun, and she bent over to pick it up from the ground.
Huang Jiucheng watched his daughter pick up the kitchen knife, feeling both worried and scared: "Hahaha... don’t... haha... ah... ah... ho ho..." He finally stopped laughing, but then began to cry uncontrollably.
Hua Zhuyue jumped down from the wall, seeing Huang Jiucheng crying and laughing, sighed silently in his heart, thinking that Huang Jiucheng must be insane.
Huang Zichun worried that these two strangers wanted to harm her father, held the kitchen knife with both hands and raised it forward, shouting at Xu Chunliang: "Don’t come over, don’t come over!"
Xu Chunliang looked at this brave little girl and felt pity. This little girl is not even ten years old, yet she already knows how to protect her father. It’s a pity she was born into such a family, unable to live carefree like other children, bearing the heavy burden of life too early.
Hua Zhuyue hurriedly said: "Little sister, you don’t need to be afraid, we are here to help you, with no ill intent..."
"You’re lying... don’t harm my dad, he’s sick, he’s sick... we really have no money left..." Huang Zichun stood in front of her father, tears glistening in her clear eyes, but she held back from letting them fall because her grandmother said that now only she can take care of her dad.
Huang Jiucheng tried to get up from the ground, but unfortunately, he had no strength at all. Seeing his daughter like this, he felt guilty and became more self-destructive, feeling that as a father allowing an underage daughter to protect, what use is there for him to live? Might as well be dead.
Huang Jiucheng was overwhelmed with sorrow, started crying bitterly, his body convulsing, his originally pale face turning bluish-purple, and his breathing becoming increasingly rapid.
Xu Chunliang knew at a glance that if Huang Jiucheng continued to cry like this, something big would happen.
Huang Jiucheng was not mentally deranged; he had a condition of imbalance in his internal organs, laughing not because of happiness and crying not because of sadness, due to the disorder of his visceral functions, which caused him to lose control over his emotions.
This illness of crying innocently was first recorded in the "Jingui Yaolue": If one is organ agitated, they may be happy or sad, wanting to cry, resembling a divine intervention; frequent yawning, Gan Mai Da Zao Tang is the main treatment, organ agitation is a sign of heart deficiency.
A person displaying two heart symptoms at once, Xu Chunliang had rarely seen before, but it was not beyond his ability.
Xu Chunliang approached Huang Jiucheng.
"Don’t come near!" Huang Zichun was still defending her father.
Xu Chunliang said: "If I don’t help him, you might lose your dad today." He walked past Huang Zichun with large strides.
Huang Zichun raised the knife, making a chopping motion, but stopped midway, tightly closing her eyes, tears finally streaming down.
She hugged Xu Chunliang’s leg: "Don’t hit my dad... he’s sick..."
"Haha... hahaha..." Huang Jiucheng laughed again.
Xu Chunliang reached out and gently stroked her disheveled hair: "Good girl, I promise not to harm your dad."
Hua Zhuyue came to Huang Zichun: "Zichun, don’t worry, brother is a doctor, we came here to treat your dad."
Huang Zichun looked at Hua Zhuyue doubtfully, Hua Zhuyue patted her small hand, and Huang Zichun finally released her hold.
Xu Chunliang squatted down in front of Huang Jiucheng, lifting his left wrist, and positioned his fingers on the cun, guan, chi points. Xu Chunliang had an extremely precise technique for pulse diagnosis, which in Chinese medicine involved the techniques of lifting, pressing, and searching.
The lifting method, where finger pressure is light, is applied to feel the pulse at the cun kou location, commonly known as the floating method.
The pressing method, where finger pressure is heavier, can even press down to the muscle and bone level to feel the pulse, commonly referred to as the sinking method.
The searching method involves flexibly adjusting finger pressure to press down to the muscle, varying pressure as needed to carefully feel the pulse.
Additionally, the method of using different numbers of fingers is divided into total pressing and single pressing, where total pressing is for understanding the pulse shape, position, and strength.
Single pressing involves using one finger to check a specific pulse area, primarily for separately understanding the position, sequence, shape, and strength changes of the cun, guan, and chi areas.
Normally, a pulse diagnosis should not be less than fifty beats.
Huang Jiucheng had a weak pulse, in all three positions of cun, guan, chi, the three levels of floating, middle, sinking were all weak, indicating a typical empty pulse, which is associated with all deficiency syndromes, divided into qi, blood, yin, and yang. Qi is the source of pulse movement, qi deficiency results in weak pulsation force, blood deficiency cannot fill the blood vessels, shown as thin and weak pulse, among which, slow and weak often indicates yang deficiency, rapid and weak often indicates yin deficiency.
Huang Jiucheng’s incessant laughter, with a substantial heart yet a weak pulse, was not a common symptom.
During Xu Chunliang’s pulse examination, Huang Jiucheng continued to laugh hoarsely, his eyes unfocused, his face cyanotic, already showing signs of oxygen deficiency.
Xu Chunliang asked Huang Zichun: "How long has he been like this?"
With tears in her eyes, Huang Zichun said: "More than three months."
Since Huang Jiucheng was released from prison, his health had been poor, including a stroke incident. After being discharged from the hospital, his bodily functions never returned to normal. Three months ago, he began laughing for no reason; initially, it was occasional, but as time passed, it became more frequent. A month ago, he began laughing or crying all day long, unable to control his emotions. They had visited the hospital, which suggested hospitalization, but could not provide an effective solution. After a few days of hospitalization, not only did his condition not improve, but it worsened.
