From Evil Sect Leader to Doctor-Chapter 338 - 313: Trying On Clothes
Sure enough, Pei Lin quickly replied with a message: I don’t want to either, but I feel that refusing might affect your relationship with President Tang.
Zhao Feiyang was so angry that he almost threw his phone on the ground. This woman, Pei Lin, always claimed to have his interests at heart, yet everything she did was meticulously calculated. It was such an obvious trick that she couldn’t possibly overlook. The Tang Family was using her, and anyone with a bit of sense would first think of refusing. How could she agree to it? After calming down, Zhao Feiyang realized that Pei Lin did this on purpose. Ultimately, she still lacked trust in him.
This woman was about to marry him and was already pregnant with his child, yet she still couldn’t completely trust him. Zhao Feiyang didn’t know if he should feel sad for her or for himself.
In the eyes of others, Zhao Feiyang might seem to have it all in both career and family, but in Xu Ying’s view, Zhao Feiyang was actually stuck in a quagmire and unable to extricate himself.
Xu Chunliang happened to chance upon Pei Lin purely by accident because he was about to return to Dongzhou the next day. So he decided to go to Jiayue Department Store to buy something, and he happened to run into Pei Lin in the mall.
Seeing Xu Chunliang, Pei Lin walked over with a smile and warmly greeted him, "Xiaoxu!"
He remembered that in the past, she always called him Director Xu. Xu Chunliang chuckled to himself; things had changed. Pei Lin’s status now was not the same as before. She used to be a pharmaceutical sales representative, always wearing a smile for others, but now she was about to become the wife of the dean of Changxing Hospital. With her husband’s power, it was natural for her to feel good about herself.
Xu Chunliang didn’t think Pei Lin becoming the dean’s wife made her superior. Even Zhao Feiyang didn’t put on airs in front of him, let alone Pei Lin.
Xu Chunliang nodded and greeted, "Pei Lin! You also came to Nanjiang?"
This sentence not only expressed his surprise but also informed Pei Lin that he knew Zhao Feiyang was in Nanjiang.
Pei Lin was slightly displeased hearing him call her by name. She didn’t used to mind when she was a sales rep, but now that she was the prospective dean’s wife, shouldn’t Xu Chunliang be more polite to her?
She didn’t show her displeasure and smiled, "I came with Feiyang." There was no need to hide their relationship anymore.
"Dean Zhao also came?"
Pei Lin shook her head, "He went on business, so I’m just shopping around alone, picking up some wedding supplies."
Xu Chunliang chuckled inwardly at Pei Lin’s subtle hint about her upcoming wedding with Zhao Feiyang.
"Oh, well, congratulations to both of you."
Pei Lin smiled, "Thank you, you must come to the wedding feast then."
Xu Chunliang said, "Of course." He was about to say goodbye and leave.
But Pei Lin said, "Xiaoxu, can you help me with something?"
She had already put it out there, so of course, Xu Chunliang couldn’t refuse. He smiled and said, "It’s my honor to serve the dean’s wife."
Pei Lin giggled, feeling satisfied at last. In fact, she had always admired Xu Chunliang and once thought of getting closer to him. But Xu Chunliang had always been neither close nor distant with her. Pei Lin even had a strange feeling that Xu Chunliang somewhat looked down on her, which made her uncomfortable.
Pei Lin wanted to buy a suit for Zhao Feiyang, but since Zhao Feiyang really disliked shopping, she proposed Xu Chunliang try the clothes on since his build was similar to Zhao Feiyang’s.
Xu Chunliang was a bit speechless. Was this to try on a wedding suit for Zhao Feiyang? But since he agreed to help, he could only accompany her with reluctance.
Pei Lin originally intended to have a custom suit made, but Zhao Feiyang wasn’t interested and told her to just buy one casually.
Xu Chunliang took the clothes to the fitting room, finding it rather amusing to himself. Here I am, a grandmaster of the Five Poison Sect, trying on suits and carrying bags for someone.
Pei Lin couldn’t help but be impressed when she saw Xu Chunliang walk out in his black suit. Xu Chunliang had an excellent build, and the suit fit him perfectly.
Though Zhao Feiyang was about the same height as Xu Chunliang, his physique wasn’t as good. Both had similarly broad shoulders, but Xu Chunliang definitely had a slimmer waist, perfectly fitting the inverted triangle shape with no trace of extra fat.
Pei Lin asked him to come closer, measuring his shoulders with a borrowed tape measure, and also had Xu Chunliang take off his jacket to measure his chest circumference. It turned out Xu Chunliang’s chest was even bigger than Zhao Feiyang’s. Pei Lin’s fingers felt the firm elasticity of his chest muscles, secretly sighing that Zhao Feiyang was not as solidly built.
Leaving no measurements unchecked, such as waist, hip, and leg circumferences, Xu Chunliang felt a bit unnatural despite his thick skin. Pei Lin squatted down in front of him, meticulously measuring his legs.
The future dean’s wife kneeling before him like this—what would others think if they saw it?
Pei Lin looked up at Xu Chunliang with a smile, "You’re not annoyed, are you?"
Xu Chunliang replied, "No problem. Are my measurements much different from Dean Zhao’s?"
Pei Lin’s face blushed immediately. Xu Chunliang quickly realized his blunder and added, "Leg circumference!"
Pei Lin looked at the size: "Yours are thicker..." Then she felt awkward and quickly corrected herself: "I mean your leg circumference!"
Xu Chunliang couldn’t hold back his laughter, and Pei Lin also couldn’t help but laugh. Their laughter eased the atmosphere between them considerably. Pei Lin stood up and playfully scolded, "You little rascal, always up to no good."
Xu Chunliang thought to himself, I really didn’t mean anything by it, you’re just overthinking things.
Pei Lin went over to the store assistant and said something, then the assistant brought another set for Xu Chunliang to try on.
The entire afternoon, Xu Chunliang accompanied Pei Lin through two malls, trying on seven suits, and finally Pei Lin decided on the clothes.
Having bought so many things, Xu Chunliang couldn’t bear to let her carry them, so he carried the large bags and followed behind Pei Lin, completely reduced to the role of a bag carrier.
When they passed a lingerie store, Pei Lin told him to wait outside while she went in to take a look.
Xu Chunliang was speechless. She really was treating him like her own man, just hoping she wouldn’t have him try on lingerie for Zhao Feiyang.
After buying lingerie, Pei Lin asked Xu Chunliang to accompany her to a bridal shop to try on wedding dresses.
Xu Chunliang was starting to regret it, thinking if he had known, he shouldn’t have agreed.
Pei Lin noticed his impatience and softly said, "Xiaoxu, we’re good friends, and you’re also a good buddy of Feiyang. Just bear with me today and help me out, okay?"
Xu Chunliang replied, "Alright, as long as you don’t ask for anything too outrageous, I’ll help you to the end." Since things had come this far, he couldn’t back out halfway.
Pei Lin scoffed, "You’ve got a really mean mouth."
Xu Chunliang sighed inwardly. I wasn’t trying to tease you, it’s just you overthinking things. Zhao Feiyang, oh Zhao Feiyang, your future wife is quite flirty; you better keep an eye on her.
Following Pei Lin, they arrived at Nanjiang’s most famous bridal shop. Xu Chunliang originally thought he just needed to help carry bags, but unexpectedly, Pei Lin changed into a wedding dress and insisted he change into a suit to match and see how they looked together.
Xu Chunliang was frustrated; people might have thought they were getting married.
The bridal shop staff were so blind, continuously praising them as a perfect couple, a match made in heaven.
Pei Lin spent over two hours in the bridal shop before finalizing her wedding dress. She suggested treating Xu Chunliang to a meal, and Xu Chunliang decided to go all the way and accompany her for a meal; it wasn’t like he was accompanying her to the bridal chamber.
By this point, Xu Chunliang was indeed hungry, realizing that accompanying a woman shopping was more exhausting than practicing martial arts.
The two went to the Tang Palace, and Pei Lin handed the menu to Xu Chunliang, saying, "Order whatever you like, don’t be shy with me. Today you’ve worked hard."
Xu Chunliang, of course, wouldn’t be reserved with her. Before Pei Lin hooked up with Zhao Feiyang, she was already a small rich lady. Although she no longer worked as a medical representative, she was still involved in many endeavors, like medical beauty centers and TCM consultation centers. Rumor had it that she still dealt with pharmaceuticals, but now she was more diversified and even ventured into medical equipment.
Xu Chunliang picked a few dishes he liked, and Pei Lin ordered a bottle of Wuliangye. She drank only water, making a point of explaining to Xu Chunliang that she was abstaining from alcohol because she was preparing for pregnancy.
Xu Chunliang thus learned about their shotgun wedding and asked about their wedding date. Pei Lin said it should be in the lunar New Year but hadn’t been finalized yet. She assured him that he would be the first to know once it was set.
Pei Lin stared at her phone. The entire afternoon, Zhao Feiyang had not called her once. She was a very sensitive woman and had already noticed from these small details that Zhao Feiyang wasn’t the same as when they first met. She even believed that deep down, Zhao Feiyang was resistant to marriage. Without the arrival of this little life, who knows where they would have ended up?
Xu Chunliang noticed she was distracted and joked, "Should I invite Dean Zhao over?"
Pei Lin replied, "He’s busy. He was supposed to head back tonight, but President Tang has an important business event he needs to attend."
Xu Chunliang remarked, "Dean Zhao is really career-driven."
Pei Lin sighed, "Only now do I realize that being with him feels like being a widow in waiting."
Xu Chunliang chuckled, "I find women very conflicted in this regard. They want a successful partner but also hope he has enough time to accompany them. You can’t have your cake and eat it too!"
Pei Lin laughed, "Are you saying I’m too greedy?"
Xu Chunliang clinked his glass with hers and took a sip of his drink, "Who isn’t greedy? We all want everything good to fall into our laps. I’m like that too."
Pei Lin could tell there was more to his words. He seemed to be subtly reminding her. This kid is too arrogant. Even though Zhao Feiyang appreciates and looks after him, it doesn’t mean he can do as he pleases.
Pei Lin said, "Xiaoxu, I’m not trying to criticize you, but you need to work on your temperament. Working within the system requires flexibility; you can’t always adopt a hardline approach, or you’ll eventually run into trouble."
