From Villain to Virtual Sweetheart: The Fake Heir's Grand Scheme(BL)-Chapter 202: Spy Kids: Du Pont Edition
Chapter 202: Spy Kids: Du Pont Edition
At the Du Pont mansion, Jacklin paced restlessly across the wide living room. Her arms were crossed tightly over her chest, and her heels clicked sharply against the polished floor. She turned one way, then the other, circling back towards the windows, only to spin around again in frustration.
She bit her thumbnail, checking her phone for the tenth time in two minutes, groaned, and shoved it back into her pocket.
Then the front door creaked open.
Jacklin’s head snapped toward it, eyes brightening. "Dean!" she called out as he stepped inside. She rushed toward him.
Dean barely had time to shut the door behind him before she was in front of him, grabbing his arm.
"Good, you’re here!"
Dean put his suitcase aside and turned to her. "What is it?" he asked, actually a bit scared by Jacklin’s behaviour.
"I’m going to die from curiosity! Do you know where little uncle is?"
Dean blinked, still trying to take off his shoes. "What do you mean? He should be here," he said, confused.
"No, he hasn’t come back here for a week," Jacklin said quickly. "I was hoping you knew something. Even this I had to coax the nanny to get that out of her."
Dean straightened up, expression natural. "So? Maybe he was on a business trip or something. I don’t get it. Why are you making a fuss about it?"
"No. His assistant said otherwise. He was in Isatis City all this time," Jacklin said.
Dean glanced at her like she had lost her mind. "Are you sure you didn’t hit your head?"
Jacklin threw up her hands dramatically. "That’s not the point, you potatohead! I ran into Mason, you know Dr. Palmer. He said little uncle was seeing someone."
Dean’s mouth dropped open. "What? Who? How? How come we don’t know about this?"
"Now I get your attention?" Jacklin rolled her eyes. "That’s why I was beside myself."
"Sorry, sorry. Go on," Dean said.
Jacklin grinned, the corner of her mouth pulling upward in triumph. "I think it’s Asena! My plan must have worked."
Dean’s mouth opened and closed like a fish. He tilted his head to the side, trying to piece things together. "Wait...so you are saying little uncle hasn’t been coming home because of her? You know she is a freshman, right? Wouldn’t that make our Uncle... a total creep?"
Jacklin was taken aback. Her brows furrowed and she began pacing again. "Right. An eighteen-year-old girl wouldn’t be staying with little uncle," she muttered under her breath. Then she paused. "Maybe he is staying somewhere close to campus?"
"I still think your thoughts got out of hand. How does Little Uncle staying somewhere else mean he’s seeing someone?" Dean asked.
Jacklin tapped her finger against her chin. "Maybe. But I’m sure what Mason said is true. That annoying man ran away the moment he realised he had slipped."
Dean sat down on a sofa, looking thoughtful. "Do you really think it’s Asena? We couldn’t find her all this time."
"Oh, that reminds me," Jacklin suddenly dashed toward the side table, rummaged through a stack of envelopes, and pulled one out. "I wanted to show you this."
She handed Dean an envelope. "It had gotten here when nobody was at the mansion."
Dean took it and turned it over. It was an invitation to a birthday banquet. "Micah Ramsy?"
"Yeah. Friday night."
"So?" Dean asked.
"I suspect Asena is related to Micah."
Dean frowned. "I doubt it. His sisters are too old to be freshmen. And I know he has a cousin around his age, but the girl goes to another university."
"Why do you know so much about them?"
Dean shrugged. "Little Uncle behaved strangely when Micah was mentioned. So I asked around."
"Okay. Maybe not a close relative. But what if a distant cousin? Or a daughter of the nanny or staff? It would explain why Micah keeps her hidden. Look at it. Micah wouldn’t openly appear with Asena because of his family. And maybe protect Asena’s reputation!"
Her voice grew louder as she spoke, and her hands moved wildly as if to paint the picture in the air.
Dean fell into thought. "That... Actually makes sense."
"We have to go to that banquet!" Jacklin declared, pointing at him like it was law. "I know Asena is going to be there."
"Maybe uncle too... if we’re lucky, we’ll catch them red-handed..." Dean mumbled.
They exchanged glances, eyes gleaming with mischief and excitement, just as the front door opened again.
The two of them froze mid-conversation. Clyde stepped inside, looking surprised to see them. "You two are back," he said simply, walking toward his study.
"Little uncle," Jacklin called. "Why didn’t you answer my calls or messages?" Jacklin folded her arms. Her tone was similar to scolding. "I was so worried I came back as soon as I could."
Clyde gave her a knowing look. "Really?" he said, voice flat. "Why don’t I believe that?"
Jacklin averted her eyes. "You intentionally ghosted me."
"Yeah," Clyde said dryly. He resumed his walking. "Because you were asking nonsense."
"What nonsense?! I can’t even know who my little aunt is?" Jacklin said, her voice rising.
"What little aunt?" a voice echoed from the hall.
All three of them turned.
Emile stood at the doorway, his bag slung over one shoulder. His mouth hung open in disbelief. He had come back to catch up after hearing his cousins had returned, but this?
They were discussing something this important behind his back. How could they?!
Dean cleared his throat. "Why are you back?"
"What? Now I can’t even be here?" Emile exploded.
Dean felt helpless. "That’s not what I meant. Don’t you have class?"
"No," Emile said, voice sharp. "I thought I’d visit you guys, but I didn’t know I was this unwelcome." he turned to leave, clearly offended.
Jacklin reached out and grabbed his arm. "Why are you acting like a drama queen? Come here, sit down," she said, dragging him toward the sofa.
Emile let out an annoyed huff but dropped his bag and flopped onto the couch. "So what is this about Little Aunt? Little Uncle, are you getting married or something?"
Clyde’s heart skipped. The word "married" hit him like a thunderbolt. Marrying Micah... His mind imagined for a split second before he pushed the thought away quickly. His throat tightened as he swallowed hard. "No. I am not."
Jacklin didn’t let up. "No. But uncle is seeing someone."
"Seriously?" Emile exclaimed. "Since when?! Did you all know and just hide it from me?"
"No one told us either," Dean said, holding his hands up. "We only found out because of Uncle’s friend, Mason."
The room fell silent.
Then all three cousins slowly turned to face Clyde, their eyes sparkling with curiosity.
