Full-Time Public Enemy-Chapter 702 - 506 Failure_2
Inside the spaceport, a group of military professionals also awaited Chen Gu for this operation.
When he disembarked from the starship, the group of military professionals was already standing outside, led by a general.
Modric immediately stepped forward to shake hands. "Hello, I am Modric, a special agent of the Seventh Energy Level."
The general shook his hand. "Hello, I am General Rex." His gaze then searched among the people behind Modric. Upon spotting Chen Gu, the general's eyes lit up, and he proactively stepped forward. "Are you the Volunteer Spirit?"
Hearing this "title," even Modric couldn't help but glance sideways.
Chen Gu felt somewhat embarrassed. Who the hell gave me such a cringeworthy title?
"That's me."
"Hahaha!" General Rex came up and gave him a hearty hug. "You're a good one! The Confederation's military always produces heroes like you!"
The people of the Star State idolized individual heroism. While their common soldiers, influenced by propaganda, might still believe themselves "the best in the world," the military high command possessed a sober understanding and consistently held the Confederation's forces in high regard.
"Come, let me show you the equipment we've prepared for you this time."
"Those young fellows in the back are our army's professionals. They're all good men, far surpassing those selfish and treacherous types from the Rights Association. I'll introduce you all in a bit."
It was a good thing Chairman White hadn't come; otherwise, the look on his face would have been quite a sight.
The military provided three Earth War Gods for this operation: one largest-model Unit 1 and two smallest-model Unit 3s.
However, these cutting-edge Earth War Gods were piloted by military professionals. Chen Gu and his team only received individual Mechas that were more advanced than those used in the Sol Star operation.
Just as General Rex was boasting about this advanced equipment, a tall, thin figure strode in and stated coldly, "I was informed that the situation here is critical and my assistance is required. Yet, everyone here appears quite relaxed. Even a military general has the leisure to chat with guests from afar!"
General Rex was visibly displeased. Despite his usual arrogance, even towards someone like Modric, he curbed his temper upon seeing the newcomer and patiently explained, "Lord Rosfield, people from the Confederation are not familiar with our equipment. Naturally, I must explain it to them to prevent them from causing losses during the operation due to unfamiliarity."
This was Rosfield, an Eighth Energy Level professional of the Ancient Sleeper lineage.
His gaze, carrying the unique gloom and chill characteristic of his profession, swept over the crowd. He then spoke with some displeasure, "I heard we paid a hefty sum for this, but are these low-Energy Level professionals all the Confederation sent?"
"Your Excellency," Modric stepped forward to explain, "they are all highly professional. Captain Chen Gu, in particular, has extensive experience with the Moss Virus and is very capable."
Rosfield granted Modric some face and didn't press his criticism further. "Well then, gentlemen, are you prepared to face unprecedented difficulties and dangers? When can we depart?"
"I am genuinely busy. After I've led you to resolve matters here, I have other engagements."
He looked at the expensive ancient mechanical watch on his wrist. "I've squeezed out six hours for this mission."
Charles and the others were already growing displeased. The Bureau of Mystic Security has plenty of Eighth Energy Levels, and Elder Rainbow is one too, yet he's so kind and approachable. What's with this arrogant fellow?
However, Chen Gu quietly gestured with a hand to stop Charles and said with a smile, "We are prepared. We can follow your lead and depart at any moment!"
Chen Gu signaled to his teammates with his eyes: Don't clash with him. With an arrogant Eighth Energy Level taking the lead, it's perfect for us to just hang back and stay safe! And since this Eighth Energy Level is from the Star State, we won't have to bear any losses.
The mischievous Selena and the others instantly understood their captain's little scheme. They chuckled inwardly, their earlier dissatisfaction vanishing, and each indicated they were "ready" to depart immediately.
Rosfield seemed somewhat satisfied with Chen Gu's cooperative stance and gave a reserved nod. "In that case, let's waste no more time. We depart immediately."
However, he then pointed at Selena and a few others, stating, "Those below the Third Energy Level need not come. In an operation like this, you would offer no positive contribution and would merely be a burden."
Chen Gu frowned slightly. Rosfield, already turning to leave, continued, "Don't think of speaking up for them, nor should you feel they've been humiliated. I speak directly because I believe I am qualified to state the truth in all matters, without regard for so-called empty courtesies.
"This saves my time, and it is better for them. If we really brought them on such a dangerous mission, they would be the first to die."
Chen Gu pursed his lips but offered no objection, which Rosfield took as tacit agreement to his condition: only those at the Third Energy Level or higher could participate.
General Rex arranged a large transport vehicle for them. Chen Gu and Charles rode in one, its massive cargo hold carrying their Mechas.
Charles still felt a bit disgruntled. "Once this business in Delight City is settled, let's just head back," he said.
Chen Gu nodded. Previously, it was always Charles who enjoyed showing off and making others uncomfortable. This stint in the Star State must have been quite trying for him.
