Future Beast World: Becoming A Pampered Beauty-Chapter 399 - 338: This Cub Really Doesn’t Care If Its Mother Lives or Dies
Tears streamed down Sang Luo’s face. She had wanted to resurrect Anu—the one she had yearned for all this time—not a stranger.
But in the end, she was still going to lose Anu.
’It seems we were fated to meet, but not to be.’
"Perhaps I shouldn’t have been so obsessed with resurrecting you back then. It was all for naught in the end," Sang Luo said, gazing into his eyes, her voice soft yet firm. "But I don’t regret it."
’At least I got to see him one more time.’
There was so much she never had the chance to tell the man he used to be.
Sang Luo wrapped her arms around his waist and pressed her face against his chest. "Anu, you are my husband. My one and only, rightful Beast Husband."
Anubia’s eyes turned red. He had waited so long to hear those words.
He knew that the Luoluo of the past didn’t love him. He had just been a means for her to acquire her Talent Ability.
But he loved her. He was willing to give her his all—even his life.
And he never regretted anything he had done for her.
She was his first love, his greatest love, his one and only.
The woman he would gladly die to save.
In the moments before his death, his only worry had been whether Sang Luo and their child would be able to escape. He didn’t regret giving his life for her, but he was terrified that his sacrifice would be in vain—that he had failed to secure their safety... But now, seeing her standing before him, alive and well after all these years, his greatest wish had been fulfilled. Even if he were to disappear again, he would have no regrets.
"Luoluo, you’ve become even more beautiful," Anu said, his fingers gently brushing aside a tear-dampened strand of hair from Sang Luo’s face.
The young woman from his memories had matured so much; her beauty was even more striking now. He remembered when they first met—her eyes had been filled with a confusion and helplessness she couldn’t hide. The Sang Luo of today, however, was more than capable of standing on her own.
She was an exceptional, resolute person, daring enough to venture into the Insect Nest all by herself.
She was a loving mother, the most important person in her children’s hearts.
And she was a partner worthy of his deepest love.
"Thank you, Luoluo, for everything you’ve done for me."
Sang Luo couldn’t stop the tears from flowing again. They fell in big, fat drops, leaving her eyes red-rimmed and her eyelashes soaked.
His heart ached to see her cry. Anu leaned down and gently kissed the tears from her cheeks, murmuring, "Don’t cry, Luoluo. You don’t have to be sad. I’m still here, aren’t I? ’He’ is me, too—just a me who has cast aside love and memory. The real ’me’ won’t disappear."
"No, that person isn’t you. Only you are you," Sang Luo sobbed, shaking her head and clinging to him tighter. Her tears soaked the front of his shirt, staining the fabric a darker shade.
Anubia was at a loss, unsure how to comfort her. All he could do was hold her close. Once her sobs began to subside, he whispered, "Luoluo, I’ll get you out of the Star Vortex Insect Nest."
He desperately wanted to spend more time with her, but her safety came first.
He didn’t know what madness his other self might be capable of, or how he might hurt her.
"It’s not time," Sang Luo’s voice faltered. "I have to go to the base..."
Anubia said, "His memories and mine aren’t connected. Tell me what you need to do, and I’ll help you."
Sang Luo nodded and told him about the crisis looming over the Beast World’s future.
Anubia’s expression turned cold. He knew the Void Insect Race often plundered planets for their energy, but he never thought they would set their sights on the Beast World.
Since they couldn’t launch a direct assault, they were resorting to underhanded schemes.
"That other one..." To make things clearer, Sang Luo decided she would call one Anu and the other Biya.
"When will Biya show up?"
Anu blinked in understanding. "It’s hard to say. After the resurrection, I didn’t have much will to live, so he was the one in control most of the time. I only got my turn after he was injured and fell unconscious. He might be back as soon as tomorrow morning, after a night’s rest."
Sang Luo bit her lip, about to say something, when a sudden, overwhelming wave of hunger washed over her. "You... first, help me get these chains off."
"A Clone?" Anu glanced from her to the unconscious woman on the bed.
"Yes."
Sang Luo’s Clones could now survive for up to a month away from her main body. So as long as her real body, currently in chains, wasn’t killed, it didn’t really matter.
Sang Luo had originally planned to use her Clone to investigate the base.
But she hadn’t expected something to go wrong with her real body.
’This hunger... I know this feeling all too well. Ugh. I did want to have another child with Quan Jin, but why now?’
There hadn’t been any sign for over half a year, so she had assumed she wasn’t pregnant and had come here without worry. She never imagined the gestation period would be this long.
’This little one certainly has a terrible sense of timing, showing up without any regard for its mother’s life.’
Her Clone returned to her main body. Sang Luo’s eyes fluttered open as Anu undid the shackles on her wrists.
It wasn’t convenient for Sang Luo to use her personal storage space, so she had stored all her Heavenly Materials and Earthly Treasures in her Qiankun Bag. She took out several Spirit Fruits and began to devour them.
Anu thought she was just starving and didn’t pay it much mind.
After a moment’s thought, he said, "Luoluo, if you’re not leaving just yet, you’ll need a safe place to stay. I’ll find you a new one."
"Okay."
"Tonight, I’ll take you to the base first. If there’s time afterward, I’ll help you with anything else you need."
Sang Luo rested a hand on his arm, stood on her tiptoes, and planted a kiss on his handsome cheek. "Thank you, Anu."
Anu’s eyes curved in a gentle smile as he stroked her soft, dark hair. Their time together was limited, and he wanted to cherish every single second he had with her.
The two of them went to the base.
"Greetings, Your Majesty."
Anu ordered the guards to open the base’s main gate.
Sang Luo followed behind Anu, taking in the sight of various complex instruments and numerous Insect Beasts in white lab coats. As Anu passed, they all stopped their work and bowed respectfully.
Anu gave a slight nod, took Sang Luo by the hand, and led her deeper into the base.
’Was the young female with His Majesty his mate?’ the Insect Beasts wondered. ’She didn’t look like a female of the Insect Clan, but their kind were masters of the Transformation Technique. Perhaps she’d just taken on the appearance of another race.’
A series of large doors appeared before Sang Luo, each one carved with a serial number and a unique symbol.
Anu had one of the Insect Beasts open the first door, labeled [A-01], so they could investigate each one.
Sang Luo stepped inside. The room was filled with glass containers holding strange crystals of all different colors and shapes.
She scanned them with her wristband, but no red alert appeared. This wasn’t what she was looking for.
They continued on, checking the other rooms one by one.
They continued until they reached the second-to-last room.
Her wristband had yet to sound an alarm.
Sang Luo noticed that the deeper they went, the stronger the energy fluctuations from the Crystal Cores became. "What are these Crystal Cores?"
But the man behind her didn’t answer.
A sense of dread suddenly washed over Sang Luo. She spun around, only to be met with his cold, mocking, and inquisitive gaze.
Before she could even think to run, he had her by the throat, pinning her against the wall. A cruel, intrigued smile played on his lips. "Which zone sent a little spy like you? Zone One? Or Zone Five? A female of the Beast Clan, wanting to pledge allegiance to the Insect Clan?"
"I—I’m not a spy," Sang Luo choked out, her face flushing red.
He leaned in close, his breath ghosting over her ear, his voice a demonic whisper. "Oh? If you’re not a spy trying to steal intelligence, then what are you doing in the base? Don’t tell me you just came for a stroll."
