Chapter 58: Chapter 58: This Isn’t Some Lame Act, Is It?

Reiya’s words were far too candid. Her one remaining, magnificent Cang Tong met the Sword Saint’s gaze, showing no intention of looking away.

Solren held her gaze for a moment, then nodded and said,

"If you don’t mind, tell me more about it later. For now, I trust the look in your eyes."

The Resistance Army leader’s prestige, built over decades, was self-evident. Even the Resistance Army Warriors, who were quite wary and fearful of Reiya’s True Dragon traits, did their best to look away and stop focusing on them.

They certainly hated and feared the Demon Dragons, including the minions and Dragon Descendants of the True Dragons. But they trusted their leader more. Since Solren said it was fine, the men of the Resistance Army would follow him absolutely, even to their deaths for a wrong judgment, and without a single regret.

But the group of Trial Takers lacked such conviction to trust a leader so unreservedly, especially the War Knights who already served their own lord.

Solren wasn’t their ancestor. It was good enough that they respected the Imperial forebears; compared to that, completing the mission assigned by His Highness Yaligong was far more important.

Burlington, unwilling to let it go, tried to persuade him.

"Lord Solren, this... this is too rash! This half-breed is deceiving you! You can’t believe a word she says!"

The Resistance Army leader stopped in his tracks and turned to the War Knights.

"Why? Do you know these people? If so, can you tell me their origins?"

"..."

The War Knight was suddenly speechless.

Of course, they knew Reiya and her group’s origins crystal clear.

But they couldn’t reveal them.

Although the Trial had no specific restrictions about this, they could still deduce the preferences of the Radiant Holy Tree from the tireless summaries compiled by their predecessors.

What the Divine Ancestor wanted to see was definitely not Trial Takers taking shortcuts and exploiting loopholes to pass. Even if they managed to scrape by through sheer luck, they would only receive a low evaluation.

For a special Trial like a "historical snapshot," the Trial Takers were generally well-versed in history, so of course it was fine to use that knowledge a little.

But if they went straight to the historical figures and performed some lame stunt like, "I Spoiled the Future for the Founding Emperor and Shocked the Whole Court!," "Transmigration: I Became the Teacher of the Five Good Emperors," or "I Can Predict the Future, But I Was Mistaken for a Divine Chosen?," then they couldn’t blame the Divine Ancestor for giving them a hard time.

A Secret Realm Trial... since it has the word "Trial" in its name, one must display martial prowess or wisdom. Only then could they please the Celestial God.

Therefore, Trial Takers would almost always make up an identity for themselves and were extremely cautious about revealing information about the future. And the fact that Reiya was an Empress Princess... was clearly a taboo that could not be spoken.

Burlington was stunned for a long moment before finally saying, deflated,

"In any case, we’re just remaining skeptical."

"To put it bluntly, you’re just slandering us without any basis, aren’t you?"

Westheid stroked his chin and frowned. "We will naturally explain our origins clearly to Lord Solren. You lot, on the other hand... you look a bit familiar."

The black-haired, purple-eyed Duke Qinghui put on a show of deep thought, then raised his head in sudden realization and let out an "Oh."

"I know now."

Just as everyone thought Westheid was about to say something, he simply gave a knowing smile and said nothing more.

’What do you know? Just say it!’ 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

’Damn it! A goddamn riddler, are you?!’

That poetically handsome face instantly attracted tons of hatred.

"Alright, since there’s no evidence, let’s try to avoid suspicion. The more difficult the times, the more we need to be united and help one another."

Solren spoke up to ease the tension, then turned to Westheid’s group.

"Since your intentions are being questioned, please come with me and clear this up now."

"As we should."

Westheid gave a slight nod.

With Solren vouching for Reiya and her companions, and their own side unable to come up with a reason to object, the War Knights couldn’t press the matter any further.

"We’ll deal with this later. There’ll be another chance."

Burlington whispered to his colleagues, then turned and returned to his post.

Westheid and his two companions followed Solren through the mountain forest and into the Resistance Army’s main camp.

The Resistance Army’s fortress was embedded within the mountainside. Through continuous excavation and construction, they had nearly carved out a city under the mountain.

Although conditions were harsh and manpower was extremely limited, the environment in this under-mountain fortress was surprisingly pleasant, aside from the somewhat dim lighting.

Integrated as one with the mountain range, its concealment and defensibility were self-evident. Within the structurally complex fortress, overlapping towers formed an intricate and sturdy structure, which the Resistance Army Warriors skillfully maintained and expanded.

Solren led Westheid and the others to a room in the center of the fortress. The Resistance Army leader’s office was spacious and simple, with a chandelier hanging from the ceiling that cast a dim yellow glow.

"I know I’ve already confirmed this, but I want to verify it one more time. How much actual damage did the Alchemy Bomb you activated cause? I want to hear the truth."

The first thing the Sword Saint asked about was the result of the Alchemy Bomb. Even though he had heard the report clearly, he still found it utterly incredible.

Westheid said, "I’m not exaggerating. They’ll never be able to form a Dragon Beast army of any scale on the Kepal Plain again. The Dragon Race’s war potential has been completely destroyed."

"...If that’s truly the case, then I will resolutely believe that you are our comrades-in-arms in the fight against the Dragon Race."

Solren nodded. "But can you tell me how you did it? Before, those Giant Dragon Execution Officers all seemed to be taking orders from... this Dragon Descendant."

"The Dragon Race is a society with a clear hierarchy and strict bloodlines."

Reiya spoke up. "And half of my bloodline can be traced back to the Star Abyss Wings. I just had to make them believe I was a pure-blooded True Dragon."

That simple sentence made the Legendary Sword Saint’s eyes widen as he sucked in a sharp breath.

"The... the bloodline of the Star Abyss Wings? That... that makes sense. Otherwise, it would be difficult to control Dragon Thunder."

"We came from Dragon’s Will Peak, so we know quite a few inside secrets. Fooling the Dragon Race in a border region like the Kepal Plain wasn’t much of a problem."

Solren asked hurriedly, "Including Scorching Wings?"

"That Dragon Lord is indeed difficult to handle, but under the threat of war, we were able to delay him for a while. That gave us the opportunity to destroy the Dragon Race’s legions on the Kepal Plain."

"War?"

The Sword Saint voiced the exact same question as Scorching Wings, "What war?"

"Oh, that’s right. We haven’t told you this news yet."

Afterward, Westheid and Reiya put on a well-rehearsed act, telling Solren the "shocking fact" that a war had broken out between the Celestial Vault Kingdom and the Dragon Realm.

It could only be described as effortless. After all, they had managed to fool a naturally suspicious Legendary Giant Dragon blind. Gaining the trust of an upright and guileless Sword Saint was all too easy by comparison.

They didn’t even have to change their script much. They only needed to alter Reiya’s identity from "a Direct Lineage bloodline intentionally left behind by the Divine Ancestor" to "a Dragon Descendant born to a human woman who was violated by a Dragon."
