Chapter 60: Chapter 60: Even a Leashed Dog Would Win

The theory of being invincible within one’s tier holds true even at the Legendary Tier.

A Legendary Sword Saint might be able to dominate dozens of True Dragons, but they stand no chance at all against a Legendary True Dragon.

Human Legends use a standard template, while Giant Dragons use a boss template!

They don’t need any fancy moves or positioning; they can win with basic attacks just from the sheer difference in stats.

But no matter how you look at it, Solren was a genuine Legend. He could at least hold his own against Scorching Wings for a time. It would be a success if he could inflict any injury at all.

"We’ve done everything we can. All that’s left is to give it our all. Even if we don’t achieve a total victory, we’ll have done our part and can only leave the rest to fate."

Seeing Reiya lost in thought, Westheid offered some words of comfort.

Killing Scorching Wings would be an unprecedented miracle, one worthy of a personal commendation from the Divine Ancestor. But in aiming so high, Westheid had also prepared himself for the possibility of failure.

"No! I refuse to accept that!"

But before he could even finish, Reiya vehemently objected.

Flames seemed to burn in the Silver-haired Dragon Lady’s eyes as she declared with finality:

"This Trial is my only chance to speak with the Holy Tree. To be reborn, I must win the laurel that will earn the Divine Ancestor’s favor!"

Reiya gripped the front of her battle dress tightly with one hand, placing the other on Westheid’s shoulder.

"West has already done everything in his power to help me. I can’t possibly ask for more. At the very least... let me bridge some of this distance between us on my own."

"Otherwise, I won’t be worthy of being with you."

The young lady slowly lifted her head.

Her magnificent eyes, a liquid swirl of deep indigo and clear cerulean, shone with a captivating brilliance, full of longing. Strands of her pure, silvery-white hair drew close to Westheid’s face, and its faint, sweet scent eagerly assailed his senses.

Westheid stared, dazed, at the exquisitely beautiful face before him, noticing the mist that had begun to form in her defiant eyes.

"You... Are you feeling insecure?"

Reiya nodded, admitting frankly, "I am. You’re so incredible, West, while I’m just a cripple... a sinner. If our worlds are only meant to intersect briefly, how could I ever confess my feelings to you?"

’Tsk... She’s so proud.’

Westheid reached out to stroke Reiya’s silky silver hair and said softly,

"It’s alright. No matter what, I’ll always care for you, Reiya."

His voice was magnetic and moving. A typical love-struck girl would have probably swooned and drowned in bliss just from hearing her handsome beloved say those words.

However, Reiya merely raised the corners of her lips at his words, shaking her head with what looked like a wry smile.

"Happiness is a gift from fate. And the weak, who cannot control their own destiny, are not worthy of holding it."

’Yes! She’s absolutely right!’

Reiya’s words made Westheid’s eyes shine; it was as if she had spoken his own thoughts aloud. He had to resist the urge to applaud in agreement.

The Silver-haired Dragon Lady sighed deeply. She released her grip, casually removed the outer layer of her battle dress, and sat down on the bed. Hugging her knees, she turned her head to gaze at the darkening sky outside the window.

After a long moment, she said wistfully,

"How can I, who have only ever accepted your help and charity, be worthy of happiness? Only by earning a prize with my own two hands can I accept the affection you offer me with a clear conscience."

Westheid stood silently by the bed, his eyes fixed on Reiya.

The Princess’s long, slender, and porcelain-white thighs were curled up. Her small, flawless feet had pearl-like toes, slightly longer than a human’s, that dug into the bedsheets.

The perfect curves of her youthful body strained against her white shirt, creating an utterly alluring silhouette. Her pure, silvery-white hair cascaded over her shoulders, shimmering with a gilded glint in the dim light.

Her dragon horns, like bolts of frozen lightning, and the faint, pale scales on her neck gave her an otherworldly, Extraordinary Charm.

The Dragon Race are perfect lifeforms on a genetic level. Naturally, the beauty of a Dragon is a universal beauty, no matter what aesthetic standards are used to judge it.

Even Westheid, who didn’t put much stock in appearances, had to admit the young lady before him was so beautiful it made his breath catch in his throat.

The ache in his heart spurred him to quickly find the right words to soothe the White-haired Dragon Lady.

"Reiya, you’re wrong about one thing."

After a brief silence, Westheid spoke.

"You said you’ve been accepting my charity? But it’s quite the opposite. I’m the one who has received your gifts. If anyone should be thankful, it’s me who should be offering you my sincerest gratitude."

Reiya turned her head, a hint of confusion in her eyes.

She couldn’t understand what Westheid meant. From the ball where they first met through all their subsequent time together, it had always been him who diligently visited her, bringing gifts, making conversation, and tirelessly offering her emotional support.

And during the Trial, Westheid had single-handedly carried the entire team. Reiya even felt that anyone could have been in her position and it would have made no difference.

’With support like him, even a dog on a leash could win!’

"Sorry, I haven’t told you about my second bloodline Talent awakening."

After careful consideration, Westheid decided to tell Reiya about his ability to share Talents.

’The Talent-sharing ability from Heart and Soul’s Gift is bound to be discovered sooner or later. Even if others don’t have a game-like interface to see exactly how many Talents they have active, the manifestations are so similar that someone is bound to notice.’

’I can’t treat everyone like an idiot.’

’Of course, I’ve had a plan for this for a long time.’

’When in doubt, blame a bloodline awakening!’

’As a member of the Branch of Prosperity, Clan Leader of the Purity Forest, and the last descendant of the Qinghui Bloodline, it’s not too much to ask for me to awaken a Holy Spirit Bloodline, right?’

’What’s that? You’re asking how the second awakened bloodline Talent of a mere Pure Holy Spirit could be so powerful?’

’Insolence! The Radiant Holy Tree itself ascended to godhood from a Holy Spirit, step by step. Who says the potential of a Holy Spirit is low?’

’To doubt the potential of a Holy Spirit is to question the legitimacy of the Radiant Holy Tree’s own ascension!?’

This line of reasoning would be enough for Westheid to shut up any Imperial Citizen.

"A second awakening?"

Reiya paused, stunned, and looked at the handsome young man.

"The bloodline Talent I awakened allows me to share the abilities of those with whom I share a heart-to-heart connection."

Westheid explained succinctly, taking the White-haired Dragon Lady’s slender hand and placing it over his heart.

"Reiya, the potential and power you possess are far beyond what you can imagine. Haven’t you realized? It is because of what you’ve given me that I have any confidence at all. Without it, my end would have been far more tragic."

"You’re the one who saved me."

Reiya stared, stunned, at Westheid’s utterly sincere face and asked,

"The bloodline of a Pure Holy Spirit can evolve to produce such a strange ability?"

Westheid said, "I only hope you won’t hold my secrecy against me. More importantly, don’t sell yourself short. I told you that you would become incredibly powerful, beautiful, and formidable, and I believe that with all my heart."

"A person’s bloodline Talents are secrets not even shared with one’s closest kin. The fact that you were willing to confide in me is enough to make me happy."

Reiya’s brow arched slightly, her eyes glittering as she smiled at Westheid.

"Besides, since you have so much faith in me, I have no intention of letting you down."

The Silver-haired Dragon Lady placed her other hand on the back of his and said seriously,

"But you have to make me a promise."

"Promise what?"

"Promise to give me the reward I deserve."
