Chapter 69: Chapter 69: I Shall Ignite the Sky

West of the Kepal Plain stood a magnificent active volcano, and upon it was built the palace of the True Dragon Lord, Scorching Wings.

Forged from layers of dark gray volcanic rock was a great hall even more extravagant than a typical Dragon Tower. A high platform cast from countless pieces of obsidian and precious metals was so vast it would leave any mortal speechless.

It was practically a mountain range encircling the active volcano.

Vibrant, molten lava was channeled onto the high platform, continuously pouring over it before draining back into the crater.

This was a bed that had taken a century to build, designed specifically to accommodate the colossal body of a Legendary True Dragon. Scorching Wings spent most of his time lying here, enjoying the lava as if it were a hot spring bath.

After all, Scorching Wings wasn’t like an ordinary Giant Dragon, who would lower himself to live in a small building by taking the form of a Dragon Descendant.

To be a Dragon was to conquer all! To plunder all! To dominate all!

Absolute ambition! Absolute arrogance!

This was the mindset of all Legendary True Dragons. Under the protection and rule of the Ancestor of Ten Thousand Dragons, the Mortal World was a playground where they could do as they pleased.

SHHHRRRIP—

The heavy clouds were torn asunder. Accompanied by the sound of an approaching storm, a colossal shadow descended upon the high platform.

ROOOAR—

A low hiss echoed as his wings unfurled, showering countless scorching sparks down like rain and blanketing the entire volcanic region in a layer of crimson embers.

Below the palace, one Giant Dragon after another prostrated themselves, their heads bowed to the ground. They were lashed by the constant sparks, trembling under the Dragon Might that swept across the land.

"On my way back, I saw settlements destroyed by explosions and the corpses of Dragon Beasts littering the landscape. What... happened while I was away?"

Scorching Wings’s crimson, slitted pupils stared at the members of his Clan. From their silent, terrified expressions, the Legendary True Dragon scented a dark premonition.

A furious fire of irritation built in his chest, especially seeing the group of Giant Dragons cowering in terrified silence.

"Speak! Are you deaf?!"

Amidst the Clan Lord’s furious roar, a Giant Dragon finally came forward and spoke with a trembling voice:

"M-Master, please calm your anger. What has happened... is difficult to speak of. Our deaths would not be enough to atone for the shame we have brought upon you."

"Nothing could make me angrier than what I’ve already suffered!"

Scorching Wings laughed with self-deprecation.

"Do you have any idea what humiliation I suffered at Dragon’s Will Peak? I rushed over like a fool, only to be mocked relentlessly by my own kin. I could only swallow my pride and admit I was a pitiful wretch who had been deceived, who had believed a monstrous lie without question!"

"Never, since following the Divine Ancestor to the Mortal World, have I been so disgraced! Compared to that, nothing else could possibly be worse."

Since Scorching Wings had said as much, the Giant Dragon Execution Officer carefully recounted what Westheid and the others had done.

After learning from the Giant Dragons under his command everything that had happened since his departure, Scorching Wings was silent for a moment. Then he raised a claw to his face and began to laugh.

"Heh, heh-hahahahahaha!! Truly... I’ve been played for an absolute fool!"

"A thousand years of my wealth and savings, all reduced to nothing! Nearly half my Clan members are either crippled or dead! And now, even the ants! The slaves! They dare to trample on my authority with impunity!"

"Good! Very good indeed!"

Scorching Wings beat his wings forcefully, stirring up a gale so hot it distorted the air. The Legendary Dragon’s colossal body slowly ascended.

A grim voice, seething with suppressed fury, echoed through the sky:

"It seems I have been merciful for too long. So long that the slaves have forgotten how the Dragon Race conquered this land a millennium ago."

"In that case, let’s remind the slaves. It’s the perfect opportunity to tear it all down and rebuild. Dragons of the Scorch Clan! I permit you... to raze our domain to the ground! Burn every town! Slaughter every living being!"

"No mercy! No quarter!"

Seeing that their Lord’s fury now had a suitable outlet, the remaining Giant Dragon Execution Officers no longer had to worry about being trampled to death by the enraged Scorching Wings. One by one, they beat their wings and followed the Legendary True Dragon.

The Dragon Group set out from the palace. Even without the sky-blotting Dragon Beast Legion to bolster their numbers, the sight of a Legendary Dragon alone was enough to make the creatures on the ground suffocate in terror.

Those wings, wreathed in eternal sulfur and embers, truly did blot out the light of the sun.

Along the way, Scorching Wings looked down upon the land. As he passed one stronghold after another that had belonged to the Dragon Race, he saw their ruins, ravaged beyond recognition by detonating Alchemy Bombs. Many humans were wandering through the rubble, salvaging items that had survived the great explosions.

When they noticed the shadow in the sky, the humans were paralyzed by the Dragon Might, collapsing to the ground and trembling. Those slightly farther away turned and fled.

"Master, shall we execute all of these audacious slaves?"

a Giant Dragon Execution Officer asked hatefully. At a single command from Scorching Wings, they would burn hundreds of thousands to death for their master’s amusement.

"Let the ants run. Let fear and unease torment them."

Scorching Wings shot them a contemptuous glance. He was a Legendary True Dragon, after all. To him, ordinary human slaves were no different from microbes. There was no need to get angry at insects.

"First... we will deal with the humans who dared to slay members of the Dragon Race. We will crush them to death. Slaughtering the slaves can be our entertainment afterward. Only then might my fury be slightly appeased."

Compared to insignificant commoners, the appearance of a Legendary Tier resistor within his territory was a much more pressing matter.

A Legend who had secretly built a Resistance Army on the Kepal Plain and gone undiscovered for decades... absolutely could not be left alive!

Any threat had to be crushed immediately. This was an instinct etched into the very bones of a True Dragon.

Moreover, he’d heard that the ones who had deceived him were also at the Resistance Army’s stronghold. Now he had to settle both old and new grievances at once.

Burning with the need for revenge, Scorching Wings ignored all the chaos along the way, leading the Giant Dragons straight toward his destination.

The Kepal Plain was indeed vast, but at the full speed of the Giant Dragons, it could be crossed in less than half a day.

The closer they got to the border, the more desolate the land became. Upon reaching the border mountains, there was an eerie sense of silence.

A Giant Dragon Execution Officer shrank back and said to Scorching Wings:

"Master, the resistor’s stronghold is hidden somewhere in these mountains. In the past, our patrols... never discovered them. They are hidden far too well! Even if we sensed something was amiss, we couldn’t possibly search every inch of the mountains."

"Heh... heh-hahaha."

Scorching Wings looked down at the mountain range that sheltered the Resistance Army’s fortress and let out a sneering laugh.

"What a childish, laughable attempt at hiding. Do the vermin think they can escape punishment and judgment just by hiding beneath the mountains and within the forests? But how could these short-sighted traitors, these audacious rebels, possibly comprehend the power of a True Dragon?!"

"Ants! Realize your own insignificance! Witness the power of a Dominator!"

"I shall... set the very sky ablaze!"
