Gamers Are Fierce-Chapter 796 - 794: The Gods
When the topic of Prometheus Laboratory Company came up, Xing Hechou squinted and ground his teeth.
As the saying goes, only peers harbor naked hatred for each other.
The Special Affairs Bureau, as the largest organization in the East for handling supernatural powers, had random anomalies as its biggest enemy, and its biggest competitor... naturally, were Western agencies dealing with anomalous affairs.
During the early stages of the killing game, agencies like the Central Intelligence Agency, the Germany Anomaly Investigation Bureau, and MI6 set countless traps for the not-yet-fully-established Special Affairs Bureau. These included, but were not limited to: spreading false information to trick Eastern players into defecting to the West; bringing various peculiar items that could trigger anomalous events into the East to confuse the ignorant, spread evil forces, and cause chaos; and directly detaining or even assassinating Chinese elites within Western territories who had discovered hints of the killing game and wanted to alert their homeland. And so on.
Moreover, due to the weakness and incompetence of the Qing Dynasty, a massive number of Eastern cultural relics were looted during that period and ended up in Western museums, led by The British Museum. The British Museum previously announced a collection of 8,000,000 items, including more than 20,000 from the East—God only knows how many of them were mysterious, supernatural items.
At least, according to the Heterodox Academy's subsequent count, during the period when the Great Powers looted the Qing Dynasty, they lost over 40% of their scriptures, Magic Artifacts (it's unknown if any Mana remained), and relics of sages for various reasons. This has led to their current superficial understanding of many anomalous events.
(The Egyptian Museum within The British Museum suffered the most tragic losses; apart from the Pyramids, the British thieves took every relic they could move.)
The most nauseating part was that Britain and the United States, unable to comprehend the operating principles of Eastern Magic Artifacts, had even sent people to request that the Heterodox Academy dispatch cultural relic restoration experts to help them repair the looted items for free. The "reward" was allowing the Heterodox Academy's people to glance once more at their ancestors' heritage, and any insights gained from interpreting the relics had to be shared with the British and American anomaly management agencies. If the Heterodox Academy personnel were unwilling to repair them, the West preferred to let the Magic Artifacts rot in storage rather than return them. Their attitude was extremely arrogant and despicable.
The Special Affairs Bureau and the Heterodox Academy shared the same roots and were naturally filled with righteous indignation over this.
Prometheus Laboratory was both a homegrown, authentically American cutting-edge technology company and one of the world's foremost private supernatural organizations. It acted as the American government's lead shock troops and gloved hand, responsible for spearheading assaults and acting as a front in areas its handlers found inconvenient, such as banned drug trials, mercenary operations, biochemical weapons, and War Machines. Over time, they had accumulated numerous grievances and deep-seated hatred with the Special Affairs Bureau.
Once the [Realms Corridor] segment began, the Special Affairs Bureau received information that "this segment might interact with the real world." Acting on this, they immediately activated the Skynet System within their jurisdiction to conduct thorough, comprehensive detection. They quickly discovered the Realms Corridor battle in this Battle Royale match-up by analyzing abnormal forum information and live broadcast footage.
The slots for advancing from the top 500 to the top 300 were limited. Regardless, Li Ang was a good comrade of the Special Affairs Bureau, having helped them considerably, so he was considered one of their own. Moreover, his opponent was an annoying lackey of Prometheus Laboratory Company.
No matter what, they couldn't let this FPU win.
Xing Hechou squinted, exited to the task manager screen, and accepted over twenty .exe files sent by a QQ friend, opening them one by one.
"DING~ Super Aim deployed."
"DING~ Super Speed deployed."
"DING~ Wall-penetration Clairvoyance, Flying and Hiding, Unlimited Items deployed."
Accompanied by the crisp and pleasant sounds of cheat notifications, the game character controlled by Xing Hechou (a young man with a black crew cut) suddenly swelled to ten meters in size, his body gleaming with golden light, like a God Immortal descending to the Mortal Realm. The Shotgun he held as a secondary weapon also transformed, becoming as large and formidable as a ship's cannon.
!!!
The driver, Brother Ruozi, the wealthy gamer and the girl sitting in the back seat, along with a few unsuspecting stream viewers nearby, were all left agape in shock. The black-haired, crew-cut youth's avatar was simply too large; one foot rested on the passenger seat, while the other hovered in the air, skimming just above the desert floor. However, the avatar's sheer size did not overburden the jeep, and the vehicle continued at its normal speed. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
"Good!" Xing Hechou, excited with over twenty different cheats active, rubbed his hands together. He opened the map, clearly seeing the location of every player.
"The new version of Battle Royale squad mode starts with 160 people, 40 teams," Xing Hechou said into the Special Affairs Bureau's internal walkie-talkie. "After the first circle closed, thirty-six people are dead, leaving 124 scattered across the map. Among them, the thirty-eight hiding in Lion City have been assimilated by the FPU. And it is still spreading further to the surrounding areas."
The Special Affairs Bureau had already used the real-world Skynet System to intervene in this Battle Royale showdown. Of the 86 players still alive, 39 were within the Special Affairs Bureau's jurisdiction in the real world, 16 were in South Korea, 17 in Europe, and 14 in North and South America. The Special Affairs Bureau could not reach the 47 players in South Korea, Europe, and the Americas. However, for the 39 local players, the Special Affairs Bureau headquarters had notified all branches to urgently dispatch forces to their real-world locations, striving to equip them with cheats similar to Xing Hechou's as soon as possible.
"If we could find this match, then the all-seeing Prometheus Laboratory in the Western world surely can as well," Xing Hechou continued calmly. "They've probably also locked onto the 47 players in South Korea, Europe, and the Americas, and are contacting their allies to deploy cheats for those players in the game. We can't let them become FPU's support. Everyone, open fire!"
Xing Hechou's character, transformed into a ten-meter-tall golden Giant, pulled the trigger. From the Shotgun's barrel, bullets like battleship cannonballs flew out, instantly covering a kilometer and sweeping towards players beyond visual range.
At that moment, Special Affairs Bureau agents knocked on the doors of the wealthy gamer, Brother Ruozi, the girl, and the stream viewers on their team. Agents scattered across various regions arrived directly at the local players' homes or the internet cafes they were in. Replacing the original occupants, they took over the computers and activated the cheat integration pack with a single click.
Over forty golden lights immediately flashed on the map. The game avatars of the local players, now operated by Special Affairs Bureau agents, all transformed into ten-meter-tall, gleaming golden warriors. Without a word, they fired into the sky in unison.
BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG.
Fifteen unsuspecting participants were instantly killed, not even given a chance to be revived, blown out of the game by bullets from server-crashing cheats. But before the remaining 32 players located in South Korea, Europe, and the Americas, seven massive frying pans, each the size of a door panel, suddenly materialized in front of them, blocking the incoming bullets.
"Red Big Bad Wolf cheat??" Xing Hechou's expression changed dramatically. He yelled, "All units, continue firing to suppress! Don't let them converge or find the FPU! Technical department, hurry up and develop stronger and fiercer cheats! I need to go and explain the situation to Li Rising!"
Without needing Xing Hechou's shout, the golden warriors scattered across the map continued to fire into the sky. The bullets first arched beautifully in mid-air, then, as they fell, changed their trajectories, bending towards non-friendly units on the map, attempting to breach the defense of the seven massive frying pans.
This game no longer had room for mere mortals to survive.
What remained was only the life-and-death struggle between God Immortals.
Xing Hechou pressed the spacebar, and his avatar, glinting with golden light, flew up in jerky movements, charging towards the Dragon Head White Lab Coat, who had come to a halt mid-air.
