Chapter 735: Chapter 730: Dinner Together

Lu Shouyue raised an eyebrow slightly: "What, is Wanwan feeling nervous?"

Lin Wanwan chuckled: "Lu Shouyue, you don’t need to provoke me. This tactic doesn’t work on me; I’m the kind who habitually loafs around."

Lu Shouyue grabbed her little hand and placed it in his palm, glancing at her with a low laugh: "Wanwan, you’re nervous."

Lin Wanwan glared at him, then, moments later, deflated and helplessly asked: "Are you serious?"

Lu Shouyue smiled: "Of course I’m serious. Does Wanwan think this invitation isn’t formal enough? Hmm, otherwise I could have my grandmother send you a formal invitation card. My grandmother is quite skilled with ancient etiquette."

Lin Wanwan was amused: "I’m talking to you seriously, be a bit more earnest!"

Lu Shouyue pulled her hand to his lips and gave it a kiss, with some seriousness on his face: "You’ll have to meet her sooner or later, Wanwan, don’t be nervous. My grandmother is a particularly kind and gentle old lady. If you don’t believe me, ask Ah Hao if she’s very kind."

He then raised his head and called to the driver’s seat: "Ah Hao, how would you describe my grandmother?"

Ah Hao, who was focused on driving, responded with an "Ah" and said awkwardly: "Little boss, did you call me? What’s up? I was driving, didn’t hear."

Lin Wanwan couldn’t help but laugh. In modern society, there’s still someone this intuitive—Ah Hao is overqualified to be a bodyguard, no wonder Lu Shouyue likes him more.

Lu Shouyue laughed too. Of course, he wouldn’t mind if Ah Hao truly didn’t hear or just pretended not to. He simply repeated the question.

Ah Hao replied without hesitation: "The Lu family’s elderly lady is a particularly kind old lady, with a great temperament and a good heart, never making things difficult for anyone. Miss Lin, you can rest assured."

Lin Wanwan sighed: "Oh! Lu Shouyue, you are so troublesome, always giving me difficult challenges."

"Hmm, yes, it’s all me being troublesome." Lu Shouyue laughed, "Then does Wanwan agree?"

What else could Lin Wanwan do but agree to meet?

She’s already met Empress Zhangsun and Empress Xiao—who else in the world could trouble her?

Since Lin Wanwan’s senior brother Kang Hongjing wouldn’t be off work for a while, the two decided to first detour to Times Square and pick up Kang’s little girlfriend, Pan Xiaolei, after she finished shopping and having afternoon tea with her girlfriends.

The last time they met, Pan Xiaolei was found to be pregnant, but there was no further news afterwards.

This was only their second meeting.

Lin Wanwan had added Pan Xiaolei on WeChat, but she was too busy to check her Moments or respond to messages promptly, so after Pan contacted her twice, she stopped messaging.

Pan Xiaolei got into the Cayenne but didn’t see Lin Wanwan and Lu Shouyue getting in, so she asked curiously: "Aren’t you two getting in?"

Lin Wanwan pointed to the BMW behind: "We’re taking the car behind."

Pan Xiaolei watched them go to the car behind with a surprised look, not quite understanding the situation.

She then chatted with the driver, asking about his relationship with Lin and Lu.

The bodyguard-driver smiled and said: "I’m the driver."

"Driver?" Pan Xiaolei was amazed; these days, people still have personal drivers instead of driving themselves.

Upon hearing the driver was just that, Pan Xiaolei lost interest and began flipping through her phone, editing photos to post on Little Red Book, Weibo, and Moments.

She felt her colorful life needed to be shared to spread the joy.

When Lin Wanwan saw Pan Xiaolei last time, she was pregnant. Now, she found her to be in a weakened state.

Looks like the unexpected good fortune didn’t stick with her.

Although her face was perfectly made up, Lin Wanwan, having great experience in facial diagnostics, could still tell her condition—most likely, she’d had a miscarriage.

In the evening, at Jie Yuting’s private restaurant, Pan Xiaolei painted things with a slight indifference: "I haven’t been to a small restaurant like this for ages."

Upon seeing the prices on the wall, Pan Xiaolei was shocked. Could this be a shady shop? How come the dish prices rival Michelin restaurant costs?

How could a Michelin have such flair, but what about this restaurant?

Even the worldly Kang Hongjing was surprised by the price at this unassuming little restaurant.

Once the food was served, they both exclaimed it was worth it.

"Little junior sister, you found a great spot; the chef here is truly impressive. I’ve eaten at Michelin restaurants overseas, but they weren’t as good as this." Kang Hongjing praised.

Lin Wanwan laughed: "Yes, senior brother, whenever you come to Ningbo, we’ll come here every week."

"Great, next time I’ll treat you. Though this place is a little pricey, it’s worth it." Kang Hongjing said, as he savored the tender Dongpo pork, nearly swallowing his tongue.

He asked Lin Wanwan: "Little junior sister, how did you find this place?"

Lin Wanwan pointed to Lu Shouyue: "He was the one who discovered it."

Lu Shouyue joked: "Actually, I don’t love introducing friends to this place since everyone wants to come after one visit, making it harder to get in."

The four laughed.

After the meal, Lin Wanwan also gifted Kang Hongjing six pills of Sun Simiao’s handmade Angong Niuhuang Wan, and a Centennial Wild Ginseng from the Great Tang.

Kang Hongjing, discerning as he was, was quite surprised by Lin Wanwan’s generosity: "Little junior sister, where do you get such good stuff?"

Lin Wanwan coolly replied: "Senior brother, I’m planning to open a Chinese Medicine Hall, so these are just minor things. If you see anything in my shop you like, just take it."

"Wow, I didn’t expect our little junior sister to have such a big mouth." Kang Hongjing laughed.

Anything Lin Wanwan gave—no Chinese medicine practitioner could refuse, just like a fisherman couldn’t refuse a new rod.

Besides gifting Kang Hongjing, Lin Wanwan wouldn’t forget his little girlfriend Pan Xiaolei.

She’d prepared Ejiao and bird’s nest for her, all excellent goods brought back from Great Tang Chang’an.

Pan Xiaolei understood Ejiao and bird’s nest, but lacked the eye to distinguish quality.

"Oh, Wanwan, you didn’t have to go to such expense. I’ve almost had enough of bird’s nest." Pan Xiaolei protested.

Kang Hongjing interjected: "This is not ordinary stuff; it’s hard to buy in the market. Wanwan, you are too considerate. Next time, there’s no need for such expense; we don’t need such formalities between fellow apprentices."

Lin Wanwan obediently replied: "I’ll listen to senior brother."

Lu Shouyue watched Lin Wanwan with a smile.

This night’s dinner wasn’t his stage; he didn’t understand Chinese medicine. As Lin Wanwan chatted with Kang Hongjing, he focused on enjoying the food.

Pan Xiaolei didn’t understand either, but she enthusiastically joined the chat.

Pan Xiaolei loved sharing her life, and dinner photos couldn’t be missed in her Moments.

She even dragged Lin Wanwan to take a photo together for Little Red Book but later deleted it out of spite because all the comments praised Lin Wanwan and ignored her.
