Chapter 862: Heavenly Cold Wind Array

In the distance.

Qin Sang and the others hovered above the sea, their expressions solemn as they fixed their eyes on the island ahead. They had seen the Kui Dragon’s silhouette and felt the oppressive might of a great demon, which made them wary.

The sea splashed as a streak of black light shot over, landing in Chu Heng’s palm. Everyone tensed and turned their gaze toward him.

Chu Heng gave a slight nod. “This demonic beast is indeed the Kui Dragon. Let's do it!”

Before his words even faded, they lifted the crystal tablets and moved swiftly toward the island.

By the time they flew closer, Daoist Fang was already locked in battle with the Kui Dragon.

The storm raged!

In mid-air, golden light tangled with the Kui Dragon. With each breath, the beast spat silver brilliance. Even the bolts of lightning descending from the heavens were drawn to it, redirected to strike the golden light.

Man and beast fought ferociously, their strength evenly matched.

Qin Sang and the others held their breath and slipped onto the island, choosing an open space.

High above them, Daoist Fang and the Kui Dragon fought violently. He swung the golden rope, lashing it against the Kui Dragon, seizing its attention.

Daoist Fang's strength was formidable.

Although the golden rope could not yet pierce its scales, it inflicted terrible pain.

The Kui Dragon’s ferocity flared. Lightning spewed from its mouth, knocking the rope aside time and again. Despite its massive size, it moved with uncanny agility, twisting and leaping through the air. Lightning danced across its long tail like a colossal silver blade, forcing Daoist Fang back.

“So strong!” They gazed upward, shocked by the Kui Dragon’s power.

This great demon’s bloodline was unquestionably mighty, its strength far beyond that of ordinary demonic beasts. Without the Heavenly Cold Wind Array, they likely would have no hope of subduing it.

“Set up the array!” Chu Heng’s low cry urged them on.

At that moment, Daoist Fang was retreating toward their position. He was not incapable of resisting the Kui Dragon, but deliberately lured it here. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

They hurried into action, racing to complete the array before the beast arrived.

Swish! Swish! Swish!

The crystal tablets sank into the ground and vanished from sight.

The five of them spread out, standing hundreds of zhang apart, enclosing a vast open ground. Beneath the surface, cold qi spread, dyeing the roots of grass and trees blue, though nothing could be seen above.

The cold qi accumulated underground, waiting to erupt.

Qin Sang and the others cloaked themselves, hiding themselves and biding their time.

“It’s coming!”

Qin Sang stared at the two figures racing toward them. At last he saw the Kui Dragon clearly. Unlike the divine beast of legend, it looked more like a one-legged Jiao.

Its scales resembled those of a fish, and its head bore a turtle’s likeness.

This monster’s bloodline was mixed and strange, yet its mastery of lightning came purely from its Kui Dragon heritage.

The beast roared again and again, hurling thunderbolts after Daoist Fang as though it commanded the thunderbolts themselves. When it spat a lightning ball, the force was staggering; a mountain peak was leveled instantly.

The two figures drew closer until they were directly above the array.

Daoist Fang streaked past, suddenly bursting with speed and soaring higher. The Kui Dragon chased instinctively, not realizing it was plunging headlong into a trap.

Boom!

The ground erupted, grass and debris whirling in the storm.

Then came a series of thuds. Five crystal tablets burst out of the earth, shining with blue light as a surge of cold qi spewed forth, scattering in all directions. Out of thin air, a cage of cold qi took shape.

The icy prison formed a perfect square, locking the Kui Dragon inside.

Within, cold winds whipped like countless chains, lashing its body.

The tablets stood rooted in the ground, releasing endless cold qi into the cage. Qin Sang and the others had already revealed themselves, each sitting cross-legged atop a tablet, pouring their strength into the array.

Daoist Fang halted abruptly and spun back. Seeing the Kui Dragon trapped, joy filled his face and he laughed loudly.

The Kui Dragon was intelligent. Realizing its plight, it let out a shrill, ear-splitting scream.

The sound was so harsh that Qin Sang and the others frowned. Even the clouds above were rattled, rolling turbulently.

Inside the cage, the Kui Dragon went berserk.

Its body gleamed like it wore armor of lightning, every scale sparking with silver arcs. The violent lightning scattered the cold winds, making it impossible for the cage to hold it down.

Chaos reigned within the prison.

Cold qi and lightning clashed wildly. The beast’s furious roars mingled with thunderous explosions that shook heaven and earth.

Boom!

A lightning ball slammed into the cage.

The cage quaked violently. Qin Sang and the others paled, secretly shocked. They did not dare slacken, driving more true essence into the tablets to strengthen the array.

Yet before the prison stabilized, the beast’s tail whipped against it with even greater force than its lightning ball, nearly breaking a hole through.

The cage was still new, its structure fragile. Under such savage attacks, it grew unstable, threatening collapse before it could fully function.

Sensing weakness, the Kui Dragon’s madness intensified.

Its cries carried a strange rhythm, drawing down power from the heavens. The clouds above churned, lightning gathering from every direction until it condensed overhead.

Daoist Fang’s face changed drastically. He shouted, “Pour in more true essence! Do not let the beast escape!”

Even as he roared, he flung his golden rope upward. The rope stretched into the skies, scattering the lightning above.

The others knew this was the decisive moment. They ignored everything else, pushing all their strength into the tablets.

The crystal tablets blazed brilliantly.

Cold qi surged outward, the temperature plummeted, and even the outer forest froze solid, its trees sheathed in ice and killed instantly.

But Qin Sang frowned. He sensed his true essence draining far too quickly. The Kui Dragon’s strength exceeded all expectations. Trapping it was not enough; they still had to hold until Daoist Fang could kill it.

If his essence ran dry, even the smallest mishap could cost him his life. He glanced at the others. Their faces were grim, yet they pressed on, forced by circumstance.

After a moment’s thought, Qin Sang quietly unsealed the corpse core, shifting the burden onto the true essence stored within. He would never let himself be driven to exhaustion. If the situation became untenable, he would withdraw at once.

The island was in ruins.

On the battlefield, a colossal pillar of cold qi a thousand zhang wide surged skyward, spinning like a tornado. In its heart, a long, ferocious figure struck relentlessly against the icy cage, wrapped in lightning, crashing into it again and again.

The violent quaking and terrifying momentum made their hearts pound heavily in their chests, a testament to how fierce this battle truly was.
