Genesis Code: The Genetic Awakening-Chapter 168: You’ve Been Warned
Chapter 168: You’ve Been Warned
This night was particularly busy for the Growian forces stationed in the Luntherian fort. Following the sudden tremor that unearthed another dungeon, the night was far from over.
The leaders had already dispatched three prepared squads to venture towards the dungeon. They needed all the resources to increase the combined power of their forces.
BOOM...!
A sudden muffled explosion echoed from the side of the mountain, drawing the attention of the men stationed at the fort.
"What was that?"
"I’m not sure." Another replied. "Looks like something fell from above."
"The vice-commanders are on the move."
The men turned their heads over when they saw all three vice-commanders rushing towards the site.
"It’s probably a spy they caught. When are those losers going to learn?"
"Doesn’t matter. Prepare yourself. A fight might soon break out. Who knows how many people they sent over?"
A valid point raised. The men didn’t dally and promptly readied themselves for the unexpected. No one wanted to be caught off guard.
However, no further violent explosions echoed for a few minutes, leading the men to suspect that something must be amiss.
"Maybe the commanders have already dealt with the problem?"
"Maybe... But we can’t be too sure." Someone said, "Until we’re told, we’re not letting our guards down."
Those words barely came to a close when another eruption, this time more powerful than before, erupted from the site of the initial impact.
BOOM...!!!
"Ah...!"
A sudden heat wave rushed past the fort like lightning, the accompanying shockwaves sending the majority of the forces flying. However, that wasn’t all.
"Fuck... The air is burning hot! I can’t breathe!"
"What the hell is happening?!"
The atmosphere suddenly took on a red and yellow hue as temperatures soared to unbearable levels. The air became so hot that breathing became difficult, and clothing and anything flammable caught fire.
The ground began melting, transforming into flowing lava that threatened to swallow anyone who dared to step inside.
"Ah... I’m burning...!"
Chaos ensued as the forces in the fort ran around in panic, attempting to put out the fires while barely withstanding the heat themselves.
The brave ones attempted to fight the scorching flames with ice and water, but were a poor match for the fire. Their spells melted as soon as they left the hands of the casters.
The fort caught fire as the roof and wooden portions of the structure were set ablaze. Heat waves gathered like furious winds, searing the lungs of anyone unfortunate enough to be exposed to them.
"Abandon the fort...!"
The men didn’t dally and swiftly made a run for it, heading towards the exit and into their lands. However, before they could even get to the portcullis.
BOOM...!
Like a missile, the men saw a flash of light as something or someone crashed into the fort, straight through the burning roof of the fort.
"What are you waiting for...?!"
Another scream echoed through the chaos, followed by three more projectiles falling from the sky. It all happened so fast that the men could barely see anything, especially through the intense fires around them.
BOOM....!!!
The fort finally gave in as it exploded in a blaze of flaming and melting rocks, wood and metal. The men had never seen such power at play before.
"Move...!"
The man shouted once again, directing his people out of the compound. ’It has to be him...’
Luc, one of the leading men in charge of the forces, looked back and swallowed hard. He, more than anyone, knew only one being could be capable of doing something like this to the commanders.
’Was he this strong the entire time...?’ The thought frightened him to the core. Even from a distance, the intense heat was taking its toll on him.
’That man has been holding back this entire time... This isn’t going to go as we planned.’
BOOM...!
Another explosion forced him to look away and create even more distance. From the rubble of the fort, Luc spotted four streaks breaking the sound barrier as they shot up once more.
A moment later, the heavens rumbled as the commanders clashed with their opponents, their blows resonating like thunder among the clouds. With every clash, a flash of light would flicker in the clouds.
’The fires are receding...’
Luc noticed as the fight happened high above the clouds. Unfortunately for the Growian forces, the fort had all but been destroyed. There was no salvaging the fort anytime soon — it was gone and would have to be built anew.
’Ugh...’
Luc and his companions had to turn away when a sudden flash of light, so bright it nearly felt like daytime, burst from the clouds.
BOOM...!
Following the flash, three concurrent booms echoed once more as three projectiles fell from the skies like fallen angels.
One of the projectiles crashed into the side of the mountain, the second fell back into the fort’s compound, and the last one passed over the borders into their very own lands.
’Shit... The vice-commanders are no match.’ Luc realised as a cold shiver ran down his spine. ’This is bad...’
A few clashes in the clouds later, the last projectile streaked down as well, crashing into one of the mountains acting as the border mountains.
Looking up, Luc and his men beheld the majestic figure of their commander’s opponent gazing down on them like a furious god here to collect a debt owed to him.
His aura flared around him wildly, and his eyes shone like two bright suns. The visual impact was so powerful that many of the men took unconscious steps back. They were scared, and rightly so.
The defeated commanders swiftly broke out of their craters and charged up once again. However, unlike the previous times where they clashed, the men saw the man point his right hand out, instantly freezing all commanders mid-flight.
"Enough...!"
The man roared, his voice echoing through the night like thunder. No matter how hard the commanders tried, they couldn’t break free from the spell in which they were ensnared.
"This farce is over..." The Growian forces gulped and took more steps back. "This is me showing mercy. Go back to your kingdom while you still have your lives. You don’t want me visiting your kingdom..."
The command was clear... Despite the chaos that ensued, only a few had lost their lives as a result of collateral damage.
"You’ve been warned..."
As the last words left the man’s mouth, they watched as he made a gesture that summoned all four commanders together before being hurled deeper into the Growian Kingdom at speeds that left the forces trembling in their boots.
A second later, the men saw Caleb break the sound barrier and disappear into the distance. freēwēbnovel.com
