Giant Dragon Lord: Starting from Daily Intelligence-Chapter 48: Two-legged Flying Dragon
Soon, the promised "Roasted Goose Mountain" appeared on the long table in the castle’s dining hall.
Twenty roasted geese, their skins golden and crispy, their meat tender and juicy, were carefully stacked into a tempting little hill. A rich aroma filled the entire dining hall.
Ever since the cook, Marlin, had joined, the quality of the castle’s food had skyrocketed. The roasted goose was a particular specialty—crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, rich but not greasy. Sprinkled with special spices, its flavor was simply divine, much to the delight of a certain picky "little cat."
Moonlight circled the Roasted Goose Mountain twice, its eyes sparkling as a satisfied purr rumbled in its throat.
It wasted no time, leaping gracefully onto the table. It reached out a paw toward the nearest goose, skillfully tore off a large, greasy leg, and began to gorge itself.
Watching Moonlight eat with such relish, a faint smile played on Raylo’s lips.
The reward was indeed excessive this time, but he had his own reasons.
The Storm Griffin was tamed, but a new Tier Three Magical Beast had appeared in the northern mountains of his domain: an Iron Armor Earth Dragon.
That behemoth was tough and thick-skinned, possessing immense strength. It would make an outstanding heavy mount and transport, but its equally ferocious temperament made it difficult to tame.
To subdue this Iron Armor Earth Dragon, Moonlight’s help would be indispensable.
These twenty roasted geese, or at least the extra ones, were an advance "deposit."
Ed stood to the side, watching the rapidly shrinking Roasted Goose Mountain and the grease-smeared Moonlight.
He found it impossible to reconcile the harmless, greedy, and goofy-looking little cat before him with the creature that had subdued a Tier Three Storm Griffin with its aura alone.
But Moonlight had so many miraculous feats to its name that everyone in the domain had grown used to it.
Moonlight’s appetite was astonishing. It devoured the entire Roasted Goose Mountain like a whirlwind, letting out a satisfied burp.
It wiped its mouth with a paw, hopped back into Raylo’s arms, and curled up in a comfortable position. It began to lazily lick its paws, the very picture of ’full and content, with not a care in the world’.
"Alright, you’re full. Time to get to work."
Raylo rubbed its warm little belly.
Moonlight lifted its head in annoyance, let out a "meow," and pushed Raylo’s hand away with its paw, as if protesting the interruption of its post-meal nap.
Raylo wasn’t annoyed. He just chuckled and said, "There’s another big guy waiting for you in the northern mountains. This target is even tougher than the Griffin."
Hearing the words "big guy," Moonlight’s ears twitched. It narrowed its eyes, seeming to take an interest.
To Moonlight, taming a Magical Beast was perhaps just a high-level game of "cat teaser."
"Ed, assemble the First and Second Pegasus Knight Squads. Prepare to depart."
Raylo stood up.
"Yes, my lord." Ed bowed, accepted the order, and quickly departed.
A short while later, twenty Pegasus Knights stood ready on the open ground outside the castle.
They were clad in light Leather Armor, armed with Long Spears or Crossbows. Their Pegasus mounts were spirited, occasionally flapping their wings with a soft whoosh.
"Our target is the northern mountain range. Stay alert and keep an eye out."
Raylo gave a simple command.
"Yes, sir!" the Knights responded in unison.
At his command, twenty Pegasi beat their wings and soared high, shooting toward the sky like arrows loosed from a bow. They quickly formed up and flew north.
Moonlight was nestled in Raylo’s arms, with only its small head peeking out. It felt the wind whistling past its ears and curiously watched the scenery rushing by below.
It seemed to be enjoying the sensation of flight, its emerald eyes shimmering with excitement.
The terrain in the northern mountains of the domain was complex, with rolling ranges and dense forests.
The Pegasus Knights circled high in the air, searching the ground below as meticulously as hawks.
The Iron Armor Earth Dragon was massive. While not as conspicuous as a Griffin, the traces of its passage—such as toppled trees and enormous footprints—could not escape the Knights’ sharp eyes.
After searching for about an hour, a sharp-eyed Knight high above gave a signal.
"My lord, southeast, about three miles out! Sighting of a giant Magical Beast!" the Knight shouted.
"Move in to reconnoiter. Stay hidden," Raylo commanded.
The squad adjusted its course, descended, and flew cautiously toward the target area.
Soon, in a relatively open valley, they spotted their target.
It was an enormous reptilian Giant Beast, over ten meters long and nearly three meters tall.
Its body was covered in heavy, rock-like Scale Armor of a deep iron-gray. Its four limbs were thick and powerful, and every step it took seemed to cause a slight tremor in the ground.
Its head was not large, but its mouth was filled with massive teeth. A long, thick tail dragged behind it, ending in a heavy, bony club.
It was precisely their target for this expedition—the Iron Armor Earth Dragon.
This Iron Armor Earth Dragon appeared to be in its prime, full of vigor.
It was moving slowly through the valley, occasionally sniffing the ground with its snout, as if searching for food or patrolling its territory.
Its heavy Scale Armor reflected a cold, metallic sheen in the sunlight, radiating a sense of Power.
Raylo’s eyes lit up. ’An excellent specimen,’ he thought. ’If I can tame it, it’ll be a major asset to the domain.’
He glanced at Moonlight in his arms. The little one was also staring intently at the big creature below, as if assessing the best place to "strike."
"Maintain distance. Prepare to land."
"We’ll go down once it enters that clearing," Raylo said in a low voice.
The Knights acknowledged the order and began to circle in the air, awaiting the opportune moment.
But just then, disaster struck!
A sharp, piercing shriek tore through the sky, carrying with it an immense pressure that descended from the heavens.
The color drained from Raylo’s and Ed’s faces. They snapped their heads up to look.
From high within the clouds, a massive black shadow was diving down at an astonishing speed!
It was an enormous Flying Magical Beast with a wingspan of over twenty meters. It had two powerful hind legs and a pair of huge, scaled wings, but no forelimbs.
Its long neck supported a hideous head, its mouth was full of Sharp Teeth, and its dark red eyes burned with savagery and greed.
"A Two-legged Flying Dragon!"
Ed cried out, his voice filled with incredulous tension.
A Two-legged Flying Dragon!
This was a creature of a higher Tier than both the Storm Griffin and the Iron Armor Earth Dragon. It was one of the sky’s apex predators, known for its ferocity and Power.
How could it be here?
Before Raylo and the others could react, the Two-legged Flying Dragon had already dived like black Lightning toward the Iron Armor Earth Dragon in the valley!
"ROAR!"
The Iron Armor Earth Dragon had clearly sensed the threat from above. It stopped dead in its tracks, raised its head, and let out a deep roar. Its muscles tensed instantly, its heavy Scale Armor bristled, and it assumed a defensive stance.
