Chapter 54: Chapter 54: Chaotic Stone Slope

The Pegasus Knights split into two squads, forming an open pincer to apply pressure on the flanks of the magical beast horde.

The Storm Griffin let out a piercing cry and suddenly accelerated, diving like a gray bolt of lightning toward the densest part of the Black Wind Terror Wolf pack.

The Griffin’s talons, like sharpened steel, glinted with a deadly light under the Sun.

"AWOOO!"

A particularly powerful Black Wind Terror Wolf, clearly the pack leader, sensed the threat from the sky. It stopped in its tracks, snarled at the sky, and let out a threatening roar.

But its defiance was futile in the face of absolute Power.

The Storm Griffin’s massive shadow instantly enveloped it. Raylo could even see the flash of terror in the Terror Wolf’s eyes.

The next second, the Griffin’s massive talons slammed into its back!

"CRACK!"

A sickening crunch of breaking bone echoed.

The Black Wind Terror Wolf leader didn’t even have time to scream before its body was torn apart by the immense force, spilling guts and blood all over the ground.

The grisly, shocking scene instantly terrified the entire pack.

The Terror Wolves let out a chorus of terrified wails, their running formation falling into disarray.

Raylo seized the opportunity. He had the Storm Griffin skim low over the pack, the gale from its beating wings lashing the Terror Wolves like a whip.

He used the powerful aura of a Tier Three Magical Beast to intimidate the horde.

Piloting the Storm Griffin, he wasn’t focused on racking up kills. His goal was to create panic, disrupt their momentum, and force the horde to change direction.

Meanwhile, the Pegasus Knights on the flanks sprang into action.

They used the speed and agility of their Pegasi to constantly harass the horde’s flanks.

Some Knights lit the sulfur torches they carried, tossing them in front of or to the sides of the horde.

The pungent odor and dancing flames were a powerful deterrent for the magical beasts, with their keen sense of smell and fear of fire.

Any magical beasts that broke from the pack and scattered were singled out by the Pegasus Knights. Under a volley of arrows, the stray beasts were riddled with shafts.

The herding process was fraught with danger.

The magical beasts were no docile lambs. They were ferocious and constantly tried to fight back.

Several Black Wind Terror Wolves leaped up to attack the low-flying Pegasi, but the Knights repelled them with precise thrusts of their Long Spears.

An enraged Thornback Barbarian Bull suddenly wheeled around and charged a Pegasus Knight on the flank, making the very ground tremble.

The Knight remained calm in the face of danger, sharply pulling his Pegasus higher. He narrowly avoided the Barbarian Bull’s horns, which looked powerful enough to shatter boulders. He then hurled a Short Spear that sank deep into the bull’s back.

Roaring in pain and fury, the Barbarian Bull could only watch helplessly as its airborne enemy flew out of reach.

Under the constant harassment, pressure, and terror from the aerial forces, the magical beast horde began to deviate from its original path toward Black Stone Town. They were gradually funneled toward the Chaotic Stone Slope to the northwest.

As time passed, the Sun climbed higher in the sky.

Below, billowing clouds of dust rose from the horde, and the air was filled with their roars and snarls.

Finally, a completely different landscape appeared ahead.

The relatively flat plains gave way to a sloped landform composed of countless jagged rock outcroppings. The terrain was steep and crisscrossed with gullies—this was the Chaotic Stone Slope!

"Attention, everyone! Push them harder! Drive them... all of them inside!"

The Storm Griffin unleashed its fury again, diving sharply and tearing apart two hyenas that had fallen behind.

The Pegasus Knights loosed more arrows and threw more torches. A few of the bolder Knights even lowered their altitude to strike the beasts on the rump with the shafts of their Long Spears.

Thoroughly enraged and terrified, the horde became like a bursting dam. They lost what little reason they had and simply surged madly toward the entrance of the Chaotic Stone Slope ahead!

Watching the dark mass of magical beasts pouring into the Chaotic Stone Slope below, Raylo and the Knights breathed a collective sigh of relief.

The first step of the plan was a success! 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

"Ed! It’s up to you now!"

Raylo reined in the Storm Griffin, letting it circle above the entrance to the Chaotic Stone Slope. His gaze fell upon the jagged stones—a silent landscape hiding a deadly ambush.

Like an uncontrolled torrent, the magical beast horde plunged headlong into the rugged entrance of the Chaotic Stone Slope.

The fastest Black Wind Terror Wolves and the panicked hyenas were the first to charge in. Desperate to escape the terror from the sky, they paid no heed to the dangers lurking underfoot.

Just as nearly half the horde poured into a relatively open area in the center of the Chaotic Stone Slope, the ground suddenly collapsed!

Several large pits, long since dug and carefully camouflaged with dead branches and fallen leaves, instantly gaped open like pitch-black maws.

The dozen or so Black Wind Terror Wolves and hyenas at the front were unable to stop in time, plummeting screaming into the deep pits.

The bottoms of the pits were lined with countless sharpened hardwood stakes. The falling beasts were instantly impaled, spraying blood as they let out horrific wails.

Immediately after, from behind the rock walls on both sides, a dozen thick trip-ropes suddenly snapped taut!

Woven from a mixture of tenacious vines and animal sinew, these ropes swept low across the ground, catching the legs of the stampeding beasts with precision.

Many of the running hyenas and Terror Wolves were instantly sent tumbling, and the beasts behind them, unable to stop, crashed into the pile-up. The scene devolved into chaos.

"SWOOSH! SWOOSH! SWOOSH!"

The Militia, hidden in the crevices of the high ground on either side, drew the stiff bows they had at the ready under the command of the Knights.

While their arrows posed little threat to the thick-hided Thornback Barbarian Bulls, they were more than enough to deal with the hyenas and Black Wind Terror Wolves.

A dense rain of arrows descended, and screams filled the air. Many beasts, bristling with shafts, fell to the ground twitching.

This sudden, successive barrage of attacks inflicted heavy losses on the horde that had charged into the Chaotic Stone Slope. In the space of a few breaths, at least a quarter of the beasts were taken down by traps and arrows.

"ROAR!"

The surviving magical beasts, especially the thick-hided Thornback Barbarian Bulls, were thoroughly enraged by the constant traps.

They let out deafening roars, their scarlet eyes fixed on the tiny human figures above, and began a frenzied charge!

"All men! Ready yourselves! Hold the line!"

Ed drew the Knight’s Longsword from his waist, its blade flashing coldly in the sunlight.

He took his place at the very front of the line, ready to lead the charge himself.

A dozen Knights from the Black Stone Territory were already in formation, ready for the impact.

Holding the advantageous terrain, they formed a tight shield wall to face the charging beasts below.

Behind the Knights was a line of over a hundred well-trained Knight Apprentices and followers.

Farther back, perched among the rocks, were the Militia and organized Hunters, using their high-ground advantage to rain down arrows.

"For the Black Stone Territory!"

With a furious roar, Ed thrust his spear and killed the foremost Black Wind Terror Wolf.

"For the Black Stone Territory!"

The Knights and Militia roared in unison, their voices echoing through the Chaotic Stone Slope, banishing fear and forging courage.

The battle instantly reached a fever pitch!
