Chapter 75: Chapter 75: Ogre Camp

"Ed!"

Raylo commanded.

"Understood, Lord Baron!"

The Pegasus Knights lowered their altitude, sweeping past the ranks in waves like agile swifts.

Soldiers from the Red Maple Territory tossed heavy jars of fire oil into the air. The Knights caught them with precision, then quickly pulled up before diving toward the Ogre camp below.

"SWOOSH! SWOOSH! SWOOSH!"

Dozens of fire oil jars rained down from the sky like hailstones, soaring over the crude wooden fence and smashing accurately onto the hovels.

"CRACK! CRASH!"

The sound of shattering pottery jars echoed one after another as thick fire oil flowed everywhere, quickly soaking a large area.

"Fire!"

Kaine ordered.

The Red Maple Territory Knights, already prepared, took out arrows with oil-soaked rags tied to the heads, lit them in braziers, then nocked their bows and fired a volley toward the oil-drenched area.

FWOOSH! FWOOSH! FWOOSH!

The flaming arrows streaked across the sky, falling into the Ogre camp like a meteor shower.

"WHOOM!"

The first gout of flame erupted, followed quickly by a second, and a third...

The wind fanned the flames. In the blink of an eye, the front half of the Ogre camp was transformed into a raging inferno.

Billowing smoke, laced with the acrid stench of burning, rose to the sky, staining the entire ravine an ominous, dark red.

"AWOOO! AWOOOO!"

Shrill and terrified screams erupted from the sea of fire.

The camp gate was suddenly smashed open. A few Ogres, their bodies ablaze, charged out howling in a panic, trying to escape the death trap.

"Block them!"

Knight Commander Kaine pointed with his Long Sword.

The Human Knights were already lying in wait. They showed no mercy to the burning Ogres who were fleeing in desperation.

With a flurry of thrusting Long Spears, slashing swords, and chopping axes, the escaping Ogres were unable to mount any effective resistance and fell one after another into pools of their own blood.

Just as the fire was about to spread to the cave entrance at the rear, a dull, strange chanting sound echoed from deep within the cavern.

Immediately after, a visible blast of cold air gushed from the mouth of the cave.

"Woooo..."

An Ogre Shaman with a stooped figure appeared at the cave entrance. It held a Skull Wooden Staff and its face was smeared with strange paint.

It muttered an incantation, pointing its Skull Wooden Staff toward the sky.

In an instant, the sky seemed to dim. Great swaths of Frost materialized from thin air and descended like a winter blizzard, blanketing the most intensely burning areas.

"SZZZT... SZZZT..."

The Frost and Flame collided, creating a piercing sound and sending up vast clouds of white steam.

Under the Ogre Shaman’s Magic, the previously uncontrollable fire was forcibly suppressed. Although it wasn’t completely extinguished, the momentum of its spread was effectively halted.

"The Ogre Shaman has appeared!"

Captain Buck raised an eyebrow.

"Charge in!"

Viscount Baker made a swift decision and gave the order, refusing to give the enemy a moment’s respite.

The camp gate was wide open, the fire had subsided slightly, and the path forward was now clear.

"For Red Maple Territory!"

Knight Kaine raised his Long Sword high and was the first to charge into the Ogre camp.

"Brothers of Nu Rock, with me!"

Not to be outdone, Captain Buck roared, brandished his Heavy Sword, and followed close behind.

The Human Knights and Mercenaries poured into the camp like a tide, slaughtering the Ogres who had yet to recover from the chaos.

Although the Ogres were not weak individually, they were disorganized before the disciplined Knights and were steadily forced back.

Seeing this, a vicious glint flashed in the Ogre Shaman’s eyes.

It slammed its Skull Wooden Staff into the ground and let out a sharp, piercing roar.

A dark red halo expanded out from it, swiftly sweeping over a dozen or so Ogre warriors wielding Weapons nearby.

"ROAR!"

The Ogre warriors caught in the red light instantly saw their eyes turn crimson. They let out bestial roars as their muscles swelled at a visible rate, and fine beads of blood even seeped from the surface of their skin.

It was as if they had lost all sense of pain and abandoned all fear. Left with only the most primitive desire to kill, they charged fearlessly to meet the advancing Human Knights.

’A Frenzy Technique?’

Kaine’s gaze hardened. These Berserk Ogres had their Power and speed significantly enhanced, and being fearless of pain, they had become extremely difficult to deal with.

"A bunch of madmen!"

Captain Buck sent a lunging Berserk Ogre stumbling back with a slash of his sword, only to find that it completely ignored the gash on its chest—so deep the bone was visible—and continued to howl as it swung its Stone Axe at him.

Fortunately, the Ogre Chieftain and the camp’s elite forces had been killed the day before; otherwise, a bitter struggle would have been unavoidable today.

The tide had turned.

The regular Ogre warriors fell continuously under the Knights’ charge, their numbers dwindling rapidly.

Even the ferocious Berserk Ogres were no match for the two Earth Knights, Kaine and Buck.

Kaine was swift, weaving through the gaps in the Berserk Ogres’ attacks. His Long Sword always found its way into their vitals from the most unexpected angles.

Captain Buck’s attacks, in contrast, were wide and sweeping. Each swing of his sword carried overwhelming power. When the Berserk Ogres’ Weapons clashed with his, they would often shatter, and the Ogres themselves would suffer broken bones and torn tendons from the shock. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

"Take out that Shaman first!"

Viscount Baker ordered in a low voice, observing the battle from the rear.

Kaine and Buck exchanged a look, a tacit understanding passing between them.

They both broke away from their opponents at the same time, two unsheathed blades aiming straight for the Ogre Shaman who was still attempting his Casting in the rear.

The Ogre Shaman clearly sensed the danger. It let out a strange cry and tried to retreat, swinging its Skull Wooden Staff in an attempt to cast some Magic to stop them.

But how could a Caster’s speed possibly compare to that of two Earth Knights at the peak of their melee prowess?

"Die, you old bastard!"

Captain Buck roared. Pushing off with his feet so hard the ground sank slightly, he shot forward like a cannonball. His Heavy Sword whistled as it tore through the air, chopping down toward the Shaman’s head.

The Ogre Shaman hastily raised its Skull Wooden Staff to block.

"CRACK!"

Under Buck’s Heavy Sword, the Skull Wooden Staff snapped like rotten wood.

Its momentum undiminished, the Heavy Sword viciously slammed into the Ogre Shaman’s shoulder.

"SQUELCH!"

Blood and flesh flew. The Ogre Shaman let out a final, bloodcurdling shriek as half its body was split open, and it staggered backward.

Before it could hit the ground, a cold glint of light flashed past.

Kaine appeared on the Shaman’s other side like a phantom. His Long Sword became a silver thread, piercing precisely and swiftly into the Ogre Shaman’s heart.

The Shaman’s huge body stiffened. The last glimmer of light in its eyes quickly faded, and it crashed heavily to the ground, falling completely silent.

With the Shaman’s death, the Berserk Ogres seemed to have all their strength and ferocity drained away. The red light in their eyes gradually faded, and their movements became sluggish.

The remaining Ogres completely lost their will to resist. Some fell to their knees to beg for mercy, while others tried to flee into the cave at the rear.

"Leave no one alive!"

Viscount Baker’s cold voice rang across the battlefield.
