Giant Dragon Lord: Starting from Daily Intelligence-Chapter 95: Moonlight’s Clone Magic
Raylo saw Moonlight on the Storm Griffin King’s back, a cunning glint flashing in its pale golden, cat-like eyes. Its small paws quickly traced several arcane runes in the air, and a nearly imperceptible silver light flared for an instant before vanishing.
Everyone’s attention was fixed on the two Giant Beasts, so no one noticed Moonlight’s subtle movements, hidden behind the Storm Griffin King’s back.
The next moment, without any warning, an identical Storm Griffin King materialized in the sky right beside the original!
It had the same agile form, was wreathed in the same cyan-black storm, and radiated the same powerful pressure of a Tier Four Magical Beast.
The two Storm Griffin Kings stood side-by-side, one on the left and one on the right, glaring menacingly at the somewhat bewildered Thunder Dragon.
"What?!"
The smile on Eliot’s face froze instantly, his eyes nearly popping out of their sockets.
It wasn’t just him; even Raylo himself was dumbfounded.
’An Illusion? No... that’s not right. This pressure, this Magic Power fluctuation... it’s exactly like the real thing!’
He wasn’t the only one; everyone was stunned.
What was going on?
Mirror Image Magic?
Or... a Summoning Technique?
The two Storm Griffin Kings didn’t give anyone time to think.
They let out a piercing, perfectly synchronized shriek and attacked simultaneously!
In an instant, the number of Wind Blades in the sky doubled.
Two massive tornadoes formed from different directions, roaring toward the Thunder Dragon like a pair of ferocious giant pythons.
Countless small Wind Blades were mixed within, letting out a WHOOSH WHOOSH WHOOSH as they sliced through the air and against the Thunder Dragon’s hard Scale Armor.
"AARGH!"
The Thunder Dragon clearly hadn’t expected its opponent to suddenly split in two and was caught completely off guard.
Its prized Lightning Magic, which it took so much pride in, seemed powerless against two storms of equally astonishing might.
The tables turned in an instant.
The Thunder Dragon struggled to keep up. It had just dispelled one Wind Blade when another attack of equal power was already upon it.
It tried to focus its attack on one Griffin, but the other would immediately launch a deadly harassing attack from the flank.
The two Storm Griffin Kings coordinated flawlessly, as if sharing a single mind. The angles and timing of their attacks were impossibly precise and difficult to counter.
CRACK!
A thick Wind Blade viciously struck the Thunder Dragon’s left wing, tearing open a gash so deep the bone was visible. Dragon Blood rained down like beads from a broken string.
"ROAR!"
The Thunder Dragon let out a pained and furious roar. The lightning around its body grew even more violent as it tried to force its opponents back with an indiscriminate barrage of electricity.
But the two Storm Griffin Kings were agile. Under the cover of the raging winds, they always managed to narrowly avoid the fatal electrical strikes while continuously inflicting new wounds on the Thunder Dragon.
The crowd in the square was stunned speechless.
"This... This is impossible!"
A Knight from the Thunder Dragon Knight Order muttered to himself, his expression like he had just seen a ghost.
The color of His Highness Prince Elliot’s face could no longer be described as ashen; it was as black as the bottom of a pot.
His lips were pressed into a thin line, and his hands were clenched into tight fists, his knuckles white from the force.
His chest heaved violently, a clear sign of his extreme fury.
His Thunder Dragon, a Giant Dragon of noble blood, was being overpowered by a Griffin. This was an utter and complete humiliation!
BANG!
With another loud crash, the Thunder Dragon’s enormous body finally gave way under the pincer attack of the two Storm Griffin Kings. Like a kite with its string cut, it spiraled down from the sky and slammed heavily into an empty area on the far side of the square, kicking up a cloud of dust.
Although it quickly struggled to get back up, the multiple bleeding wounds on its body and its weakened aura were clear signs of its defeat.
The two Storm Griffin Kings did not press their advantage. Instead, they circled in the air, letting out triumphant shrieks, looking majestic and imposing.
Moonlight happily flicked its tail and even seemed to yawn.
"How outrageous! How outrageous!"
Eliot finally couldn’t hold back any longer and exploded. He took a sharp step forward as Magic Power began to surge around him, looking ready to enter the fray himself at any moment.
’This is bad,’ Raylo thought.
Things had escalated far beyond the scope of "just playing around."
If Eliot made a move, it would be difficult to explain things to the Duke.
Besides, he really didn’t want to see his territory’s castle get demolished any further.
"That’s enough! Baofeng, come back!"
Raylo shouted in a deep, booming voice. He infused it with Magic Power, making it ring out clearly across the entire square, even overpowering the shriek of the Griffins.
Hearing his voice, the two Storm Griffin Kings in the sky both glanced in Raylo’s direction.
Then, to everyone’s astonishment, the form of one of the Storm Griffin Kings began to blur and turn transparent, finally dissolving into motes of cyan light that vanished into the air as if it had never been there at all.
Only the original Storm Griffin King remained.
The Storm Griffin King let out a low, somewhat reluctant cry and hesitated, glancing back at the big cat on its back. Only then, obeying a command from either Raylo or Moonlight, did it beat its wings and descend.
As for Moonlight on its back, it calmly licked its paws. Its pale golden eyes glanced at the pathetic Thunder Dragon and the furious Eliot on the ground, and its gaze seemed to hold a trace of... disdain?
Raylo felt a headache coming on.
’That little troublemaker, Moonlight, really loves to stir up chaos!’
A dead silence fell over the square, broken only by the Thunder Dragon’s heavy, labored breathing.
The once-invincible, ferocious Giant Beast now looked as pathetic as a defeated rooster.
The Storm Griffin King folded its wings and landed beside Raylo.
Moonlight leaped lightly from its back, shook its shimmering silver fur, and struck a lazy pose, as if the heart-pounding battle had nothing to do with it.
"Ugly" was no longer a strong enough word to describe the look on Eliot’s face.
"This... This is impossible!"
His Highness Prince Elliot stared fixedly at his Thunder Dragon, the muscles in his face twitching violently with rage. His handsome features were twisted into a somewhat savage expression.
"Raylo! What despicable trick did you use?"
His voice was sharp and hoarse, filled with indignation and shame.
"A feathered beast? How dare it oppose my Thunderstorm!"
Eliot was practically screaming in Raylo’s face, spittle flying from his lips.
Raylo frowned slightly and took half a step back. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
He felt a bit helpless himself. Moonlight’s performance had indeed defied common sense, so it was no wonder Eliot had lost his composure so completely.
But to accuse him of using despicable tricks was just unfair.
’Honestly, I’m just as confused as he is.’
"His Highness Prince Elliot, please watch your words."
Raylo’s voice grew cold.
"The two Magical Beasts were just playing around. Winning and losing are common."
"The outcome doesn’t matter!"
He glanced at Moonlight, who was scratching behind its ear with a hind leg, looking completely unconcerned.
"Ability?"
Eliot burst into laughter, as if he’d just heard the world’s biggest joke. His laughter was born of pure rage.
"A feathered beast is worthy of discussing ability in front of my noble Thunderstorm? Raylo, don’t think you can get away with some petty trick..."
"Your Highness."
Raylo interrupted him.
"Your Thunder Dragon lost. That is a fact. If you cannot accept that fact, there’s nothing I can do. But this is my territory, so I must ask you to maintain some semblance of decorum."
Eliot’s laughter died abruptly. His face went from red to white, then from white to a sickly green—a fascinating spectacle.
As the Crown Prince, when had he ever been contradicted and humiliated like this?
The air around them seemed to freeze.
The Knights of the Thunder Dragon Knight Order looked at each other, not daring to breathe.
They never imagined things would escalate to this point.
Their Highness had utterly lost face today.
They could already imagine the uproar this incident would cause when word got back to Thunder Dragon City!
"Good. Very good!"
Eliot ground out the words through clenched teeth.
"Raylo, you are truly my ’good’ little brother!"
"We’re leaving!"
Eliot flung his arm out, turned, and strode toward his Thunder Dragon, which was still sprawled on the ground.
The Thunder Dragon seemed to sense its master’s fury and indignation. It let out a low, mournful cry and struggled to stand, but the movement pulled at its wounds, causing it to stumble again.
Seeing this, a few Knights from the Thunder Dragon Knight Order moved to help the Thunder Dragon.
But Eliot shoved them aside and snapped.
"Get away! I don’t need anyone’s pity!"
He walked to the Thunder Dragon’s side and vaulted onto its back.
The Thunder Dragon laboriously beat its wings a few times, kicking up a cloud of dust, and finally, unsteadily, lifted into the air.
The other members of the Thunder Dragon Knight Order also gathered their badly frightened Iron Feathered Eagles.
Iron Feathered Eagles were Tier Two Magical Beasts and usually quite majestic, but they had been terrified by the battle between the two Tier Four Magical Beasts. They were still trembling, only managing to calm down somewhat after being soothed by their masters.
As Eliot flew away, the Knights of the Thunder Dragon Knight Order mounted their Iron Feathered Eagles and followed close behind, hastily departing the square where they had been so thoroughly disgraced.
With their departure, the tense, sword-drawn atmosphere finally eased.
Raylo sighed, looking at Moonlight, who was still acting as if it had nothing to do with anything.
He scooped it up, tucked it under his arm, and WHAP, WHAP, WHAP, gave its bottom a few swats.
Seeing this, the Storm Griffin King flinched and ducked its head, its previous triumphant and arrogant demeanor quickly vanishing.
"Awoo!"
Looking aggrieved, Moonlight leaped back into Raylo’s arms to act cute and spoiled.
Broken Stone Slabs, swirling dust... the square was a complete mess, like a battlefield trampled by Giant Beasts.
Raylo rubbed his temples. Looking at the wreckage before him, he felt not a shred of victorious joy.
Eliot had suffered a huge loss this time. With his vindictive personality, he would never let this go.
’There’s sure to be trouble in the future.’
"First, clean up the square. Gather the broken stones, and repair what can be repaired as quickly as possible."
"Have the physicians tend to the injured guards and citizens. Be generous with the compensation."
Raylo gave his orders.
"Yes, my lord!"
He glanced at the Storm Griffin King cowering in the corner, trying to make itself as inconspicuous as possible. The beast had been so majestic moments ago, but now it was as timid as a quail.
As for the true culprit, it was currently nestled in his arms, acting spoiled.
The few swats from before had seemed like a punishment, but in truth, Raylo hadn’t used much force.
Moonlight was a tough little thing; that amount of force was no different from a scratch for it.
Sure enough, it was already back to normal, its big tail wagging intermittently. Its pale golden eyes darted around, as if it were still savoring the aftertaste of the "game" from just now.
Raylo tapped its smooth forehead with his finger.
"Moonlight, come on, tell me. How did you make that clone of the Griffin King just now?"
"Did you master some new kind of Clone Magic?"
Moonlight closed its eyes and started playing dead.
