Chapter 47: [47]Breaking the Blockade, The Sovereign Gate

The Sovereign Gate stood tall in the center of the financial district as a symbol of humanity’s arrogant misunderstanding of their own reality.

Before the Convergence, it had been a massive high tech transit hub. It was built by the corporate guilds to regulate player access into Aetheria.

Now, as the Spire violently overwrote the physical world, the Gate had transformed completely.

It was a towering archway of pulsing dark iron and glowing crimson runes, heavily fortified by the Syndicate. They were the private army loyal to Pierce Valerius.

Vahn Ryker stood at the edge of a ruined overpass, looking down at the heavily entrenched plaza.

The rain had picked up again, a freezing downpour that hissed as it struck Sia Vance’s heat radiating obsidian shield.

"Tactical assessment," Sia murmured. Her silver grey eyes scanned the courtyard with ruthless precision.

"I count one hundred hostile combatants. Platinum tier armor baseline. They have built a shield wall around the gate and they are not planning to move."

Sia paused as she glanced at the enemy lines, adjusting her grip on her shield.

"Behind the vanguard, I see twenty casters priming heavy artillery spells. Above the gate, they have mounted three localized mana cannons. It is a textbook siege defense."

"They are terrified," Aria observed softly, standing close to Vahn’s side.

Her healing aura passively warmed the air around them, warding off the biting chill of the storm.

"Look at their posture. They aren’t standing like conquerors. They are huddled together. The sky is bleeding above them, and they are desperately clinging to their orders because it is the only thing that makes sense anymore."

"Fear makes people predictable," Vahn replied.

His deep purple eyes glowed with the faint, calculating light of his Verdant Chronos Sight. He mapped the geometric wireframes of the plaza, identifying the structural weak points in the Syndicate’s blockade.

Standing at the front of the enemy formation was Vanguard Captain Thorne. He was a massive brute wielding a crackling, lightning infused warhammer.

He was shouting orders, his voice amplified by a localized wind spell, trying to maintain discipline among his ranks as the abyssal storm raged overhead.

"No one passes!" Thorne roared, slamming his hammer into the runic stone.

"The Alpha has decreed a total lockdown! Secure the data siphons! The transition process is almost complete!"

Behind Thorne, massive cables of glowing blue light were physically plugged into the Sovereign Gate. They were draining the ambient energy of the city and funneling it into a colossal floating black crystal.

Pierce was already packaging the tribute.

"Sia," Vahn said softly. "The mana cannons on the upper ridge. Can you intercept?"

"The bigger the blast they send at me, the harder it comes back," Sia smiled.

It was a fierce, predatory expression that looked wildly out of place on her usually stoic face.

"I will melt their artillery into slag."

"Aria, bind the frontline," Vahn continued. His tone dropped into the absolute, unyielding authority of the Architect. "Do not let them scatter. Kora... go play with your food."

"Finally!" Kora hissed telepathically.

The tiny dragon girl launched herself off the overpass, completely ignoring the hundred foot drop.

"Execute," Vahn commanded.

Sia moved first. She didn’t attempt stealth.

She dropped from the overpass like a meteor. Her heavy boots cracked the reinforced stone of the plaza with a deafening boom.

The Syndicate vanguard instantly panicked. Their heavy shields raised in an uncoordinated scramble.

"Contact!" Captain Thorne bellowed, swinging his lightning infused hammer toward Sia. "Fire the cannons! Obliterate her!"

The three mounted mana cannons on the upper ridge fired simultaneously.

Massive, blinding beams of condensed thermal energy screamed across the plaza, converging directly on the silver haired knight.

To a normal player, it was absolute overkill. But Sia didn’t even flinch.

She planted her feet, lowered her center of gravity exactly as Vahn had taught her, and raised the Mythic tier obsidian kite shield.

The beams struck the shield.

Instead of exploding, the energy was violently absorbed by the shield’s redirection matrix. The dark metal glowed with a blinding, white hot intensity.

Sia gritted her teeth, absorbing the sheer kinetic force, and violently swung her shield upward.

The accumulated energy was fired right back at the ridge in a singular, devastating wave of pure plasma.

The upper fortifications were instantly vaporized!

The cannons melted into liquid runoff. The gunners dived for cover as their entire defensive line collapsed in a fraction of a second.

"What in the Founders’ name is that?!" Thorne screamed, stumbling backward.

Before he could recover, Aria stepped onto the battlefield.

She didn’t drop down. She floated gently, her Crimson Lotus Vestments catching the wind, and slammed her wooden staff into the ground.

"Holy Chains!" Aria commanded.

Pink gold light erupted from the earth beneath the Syndicate vanguard.

Massive, glowing chains whipped upward, aggressively wrapping around the legs and waists of fifty heavily armored players.

They shrieked, their forward momentum violently halted as they were physically bolted to the floor.

"Break the chains! Casters, dispel her!" Thorne yelled, desperately trying to yank his boots free.

The twenty backline casters raised their staves, preparing to unleash a volley of disruptive magic.

They didn’t get the chance.

Kora landed directly in the center of the caster formation.

The tiny, crimson haired girl looked around at the glowing magical staves. Her slit pupils widened in gluttonous joy.

She unhinged her jaw and inhaled sharply.

The localized vacuum was catastrophic.

The primed spells didn’t just fizzle out. The raw mana was violently ripped from the casters’ weapons, tearing through the air and funneling directly into Kora’s mouth.

She swallowed the combined magical output of twenty elite players, let out a highly satisfied fiery burp, and punched the nearest caster in the knee with the force of a freight train.

The man flew backward, his armor crumpling like tin foil.

Total chaos erupted in the Syndicate ranks. Their artillery was gone. Their vanguard was immobilized. Their backline was currently being terrorized by a hungry toddler.

Vahn walked down the crumbling stairs of the overpass, his hands casually tucked into the pockets of his jacket.

He bypassed the screaming combatants entirely. His fifty base Agility allowed him to weave through the frantic swings of the trapped vanguard without breaking his stride.

He didn’t draw a weapon to fight the grunts. They were irrelevant.

His eyes were locked entirely on the massive black crystal siphoning energy from the Sovereign Gate.

Captain Thorne saw him approaching.

With a desperate, feral roar, Thorne shattered the holy chains binding his legs. He burned a massive cooldown skill to break the crowd control.

He lunged at Vahn, his massive warhammer crackling with lethal voltage, aiming to crush the Architect’s skull.

Vahn didn’t even look at him. He didn’t stop walking.

’System,’ Vahn dictated mentally. ’Target: Ambient kinetic force of hostile weapon. Reverse trajectory.’

Vahn snapped his fingers.

The physics engine localized around Thorne instantly inverted.

The massive downward swing of the warhammer violently reversed course. The heavy iron head slammed backward, crushing directly into Thorne’s own chest plate with his full, unmitigated strength.

The Captain was launched through the air like a ragdoll. He crashed into the plaza wall and slid down, completely unconscious.

The jaws of everyone in the plaza dropped as they stared at Vahn as though he had run mad!

Not even those who had awakened a god Talent would dare to ignore a Vanguard Captain’s attack like that!

Vahn reached the Sovereign Gate.

The massive cables of blue data thrummed aggressively, feeding Earth’s core energy into Pierce’s tribute crystal.

Vahn drew the Soul Bound Shadow Blade from his hip.

The dark metal eagerly drank in the ambient light, humming with a violent, violet energy. He didn’t hesitate.

He brought the legendary dagger down in a flawless, horizontal arc, severing the massive data cables in a single strike.

The backlash was immediate.

The black crystal shrieked, its containment matrix destabilizing without the steady flow of energy.

It cracked, the stolen experience points violently exploding outward in a massive shower of blue light.

Vahn sheathed his dagger, turning back to look at the terrified, broken remnants of the Syndicate army.

"Tell the Alpha his transmission failed," Vahn said softly. His voice carried the absolute finality of a god. "The Gate belongs to me."
