At that moment, several streaks of light rapidly approached from the distant night sky.

More figures landed on the ground, shaking the earth with each impact. Clearly, the newcomers were formidable — no doubt also powerful Beast Masters from the Haunted Marsh.

Just as Charles was about to use the [Substitute Mask for the Ten-Person Council] to summon the apparition of Cuny, the president of the Beast Master Guild and master of the Beast Master Tower, a somewhat familiar voice rang out:

"Everett, what happened here?"

That voice — it sounded like the ninth-level Beast Master Callum, a friend Ezra had introduced to him during their visit to the Haunted Marsh!

Charles immediately halted his movement, withdrawing his hand from the Substitute Mask. He slowly looked up in the direction of the voice.

Callum had just been about to press for answers when he sensed the massive hand of condensed elemental energy looming over Charles, a suppressive force unleashed by one of Ancient Academy's ninth-level Beast Masters.

His expression changed in an instant. Power surged through his body, and a wave of invisible energy burst forth, knocking over several weaker Beast Masters nearby.

In the next instant, the giant hand descending over Charles's head was pierced by a glowing, ethereal longsword.

Floating before Callum were several such golden swords, his signature ability. The one that had just shattered the descending hand was among them, freshly summoned by his power.

Now Callum stood firm, his face stern, eyes locked onto the ninth-level Beast Master who had attacked Charles. His voice thundered:

"Everett! Are you out of your mind?!"

The Beast Master known as Everett — a prominent figure of the Ancient Academy from the Haunted Marsh — froze on the spot.

He stared at Callum, stunned, confused by what had just transpired.

Why had Callum suddenly struck? And why was he shouting threats like that?

As far as he knew, there wasn't any serious conflict between the underground black market faction and the Ancient Academy. He had no personal grudge against Callum either. Their relationship was distant, but not antagonistic.

Bewildered and humiliated by Callum's public accusation in front of so many people, Everett's face darkened.

Without hesitation, he activated his own ability, conjuring multiple massive spectral hands in front of him. He glared at Callum and responded angrily:

"Callum, you're the one who's lost it! Is your underground black market declaring war on the Ancient Academy?"

"I was disciplining the culprit responsible for the deaths of several of our Academy's students — how is that your business?"

Callum hesitated. He glanced around at the corpses scattered nearby, then at Charles, who had been suppressed by the enormous hand just moments earlier.

The situation was clearly not what he had assumed.

Charles spoke directly: "Callum, I didn't cause this devastation."

Upon hearing Charles's words, Callum didn't hesitate for a moment. He immediately turned to Everett and said:

"Did you hear that? Charles says this isn't his doing, that he had nothing to do with it. Instead of going after the real culprit, you're attacking Charles here — seems like your brain's not working right!"

Everett's eyes widened instantly. He looked at Charles, then at Callum, and angrily responded:

"Just because he says so doesn't mean it's true! My students said this has something to do with Charles. They said he had a conflict with an Ancient Academy student, and then that person, what's his name, William, went on to kill those students!"

"How can they be friends with Charles then?!"

"How can you say there's no connection?"

In the face of Everett's anger, Callum simply replied calmly: "I believe Charles. Your students are wrong. If you want to know the truth, investigate it yourself."

"And if you lay another hand on Charles, I'll lay hands on you."

Callum trusted Charles and knew he wouldn't deceive him. The incident had nothing to do with Charles. Even if there was some involvement, it didn't matter.

As Ezra's disciple, if Charles hadn't shown up here and Callum had learned about him being mistreated by a ninth-level Beast Master from Ancient Academy, that would have been a different matter. At most, Callum would have sought to restore some of Charles's dignity later.

But now that he was here, he made it clear that Charles would not be bullied by anyone, not even a ninth-level Beast Master from Ancient Academy!

The atmosphere between the two powerful ninth-level Beast Masters was intense, their overwhelming auras pressuring the Beast Masters from the Abyssal Depths. They could hardly breathe.

They never expected that someone like Charles could have caused such a situation.

At first, they were surprised by the battle between Charles and the Beast Masters of the Haunted Marsh. Later, when faced with the pressure of a ninth-level Beast Master, Charles didn't back down, which earned the instinctive respect of the Beast Masters from the Abyssal Depths.

Now, another powerful ninth-level Beast Master had appeared, willing to fight the first one just to protect Charles. This stunned the Beast Masters from the Abyssal Depths completely.

Rex muttered to himself: "Does Charles really have such a powerful background? That's a ninth-level Beast Master!"

"If these two ninth-level Beast Masters really start fighting, I'm outta here! Otherwise, if I get caught in their battle, I'll be dead for sure!"

No one wanted to experience what it would feel like to be caught in the middle of a battle between two ninth-level Beast Masters.

The others present could only hope in their hearts that the two powerful ninth-level Beast Masters would not act impulsively and start fighting.

At that moment, Rex had an idea and whispered to Charles, "Brother, can you try to talk them down? If they really start fighting, it's going to be a disaster!"

Charles felt somewhat helpless. He hadn't expected things to escalate this far.

Originally, the talented Beast Masters from the Haunted Marsh were upset because they believed they lost their spot due to his words, so they came to cause trouble for him. Charles had only given them a brief lesson, and as for Luke, the fifth-level Beast Master who had fought him—he hadn't hurt Luke. Luke was badly wounded by his own team and then got caught up in the battle involving the crazy man named William, ultimately leading to his death.

There was no way around it; Charles certainly couldn't allow two ninth-level Beast Masters to fight here.

Reluctantly, he turned to Callum and said, "Callum, why don't you let me explain everything in detail first?"

Before Charles could finish, Everett, the ninth-level Beast Master from the Haunted Marsh Ancient Academy, shouted, "Shut up, you have no right to interrupt!"

Callum immediately became furious. His energy surged, and the golden sword illusions in front of him shot straight toward Everett without hesitation.

Everett hadn't expected Callum to suddenly attack just because he had said a few words to Charles.

In a panic, he had no choice but to defend himself with the huge spectral hand he had just conjured.

Although they were both ninth-level Beast Masters, Callum was slightly stronger than Everett. If Callum went all out, Everett would certainly suffer.

Fortunately, Callum's intention was merely to warn Everett, and he stopped his attack after a brief assault. Calmly, he spoke:

"I'll give you one more chance. Don't be ungrateful. If not, only one of us will be left standing when this is over."

Everett didn't argue further but instead turned his gaze to Charles, remaining silent.

He began to doubt the nature of the relationship between Charles and Callum. What could possibly make a Beast Master from the Abyssal Depths so important to Callum, someone so powerful and influential?

Under Everett's watchful eyes, Callum turned to Charles and gently said, "Don't call me Callum, just call me Uncle Callum from now on."

Charles was stunned for a moment but quickly nodded.

He understood that, in front of so many people, Callum's words were a clear signal to Everett—his relationship with Callum was very close, and he was being protected.

Soon after, Charles recounted everything that had happened.

After hearing Charles's words, Callum immediately turned his gaze to the surviving sixth-level Beast Master. In a voice full of pressure, he asked:

"I'll give you a chance. Is what happened just now the same as what Charles said? Don't try to deceive us. You should know very well what the consequences would be for deceiving two ninth-level Beast Masters."

The Beast Master instinctively glanced at Everett. Just as he was about to say something, he felt Callum's gaze locking onto him.

With no way out, the sixth-level Beast Master, who had lost both his arms, reluctantly admitted that everything Charles said was true. He had been confused due to excessive blood loss after his injuries, but now that he had recovered a little, his mind was clear, and he remembered exactly what had happened.

Immediately, Everett's face darkened.

He hadn't expected that it was one of his own academy's students who had come to cause trouble for Charles, only to be casually taught a lesson by him. Moreover, he had lost face in front of so many other Beast Masters.

The situation had nothing to do with Charles, yet he had acted against Charles, and even ended up in conflict with Callum.

The disturbance caused by the scuffle between Everett and Callum had drawn the attention of other Beast Masters from the Haunted Marsh. In a small clearing of the forest, powerful forces from the Haunted Marsh Cyber Academy, Ancient Academy, the Beast Master Guild, the Alchemist Guild, and the Forging Masters Guild had all arrived.

In front of so many people, Everett took a deep breath, gritted his teeth, and said to the other Ancient Academy members:

"We're leaving!"

At that moment, Callum spoke again, his voice calm:

"Stop, this isn't over yet."

Everett halted in his tracks and turned back, surprised. He asked, "What more do you want? This matter is finished. It has nothing to do with Charles. The real culprit is someone else!"
