Chapter 84: First SSS-Class Mission

Arima saw them and seemingly recognized them, his brows creasing slightly.

"13th Demon Hunter Squad?" He asked curiously.

Namita and Akihito we’re surprised.

Arima Shiniyami was known as the strongest Demon Hunter, they didn’t expect him to know them.

"Indeed." Namita nodded calmly.

"Where’s your captain?" Arima narrowed his eyes. He added, "Captain Starks."

Akihito was startled. "You know Captain Starks?"

Arima replied."I wouldn’t say know... but we did have some interaction."

Somehow, that made sense to Akihito and Namita.

"Captain Starks..." Namita answered calmly. "He’s temporarily stepped down as Captain, unfortunately."

Arima’s eyes widened slightly, but besides that, he showed no other reaction. After a brief pause, he nodded slightly, losing interest.

"I see. That’s a pity."

Namita observed his reaction carefully but found nothing suspicious.

After hearing that, Arima excused himself.

"I’ll go to my squad now."

Akihito blinked, not expecting the sudden shift of personality.

Namita’s eyes lingered on Arima a little longer, seeing him walk to a group of people he recognized as the members of the 1st Demon Hunter Squad.

Arima Shiniyami has always been known to be an odd one. Indifferent to most people, and arrogant beyond belief. While it didn’t show in his expressions or words, the man was known to not consider anyone at his level at all.

But that arrogance, Arima backed it up with skill.

As the Captain of the 1st Demon Hunter Squad, his title spoke for itself.

’0 failed missions and all missions since the start of his career was at least S-class. Not to mention, he once singlehandedly stopped a monster invasion in the province...’

Namita wasn’t surprised by his attitude.

Brushing it aside, he swept his gaze to the room.

Besides the 1st Demon Hunter Squad, the captains and members of the 3rd and 7th Demon Hunter Squads were also present.

He saw that Ayase and Seiji were on the corner, standing by themselves.

Noticing each other, Akihito waved his hand at then.

"Ayase-san, Seiji-san!"

Akihito greeted with a small smile, walking to them with Namita.

Seiji scanned his appearance, shaking his head.

"Seems like you went through something terrible,"

Akihito shrugged, merely giving a wry smile. "Just fine, I learned a lot anyway."

"That’s true," Seiji nodded.

Captain Stark’s lessons were definitely gruesome, but after every lesson, they would feel like they learned a lot. It was almost addicting, in a way. If it wasn’t for the pain that came with it, they might chosen to just train with Zold all day.

Not that Zold would agree, of course.

Creak...

At that moment, the door opened once more, revealing Nagito with Shiho behind his back.

"Chairman!"

Seeing him, all the demon hunters present straightened and bowed, greeting him respectfully.

"Hello~"

Nagito smiled slightly, greeting them casually. He swept his gaze to the room. His gaze lingered on the 13th Demon Hunter Squad, but upon seeing that Zold wasn’t present once more, he shifted his gaze elsewhere.

He looked at Arima, and Arima also met his gaze

After a brief glance, Nagito walked to the front seat.

"Take yours seats before we start the meeting."

"Yes, Chairman!"

Hearing that, everyone made themselves comfortable in the circular table.

After a while, the meeting officially began.

Nagito sat on the front seat, while Shiho stood behind him, acting as his personal secretary.

He tapped the table, gathering everyone’s attention.

"I hope everyone has been well and fine despite the recent news."

Everyone exchanged glances with each other, nodding subtly.

"That’s great," Nagito nodded, smiling slightly. "Now we’ll need your help again. This time for SSS-class mission."

He glanced at Shiho.

"Shiho, you may explain it to them."

Shiho nodded calmly. She swept her gaze to the room, speaking slowly.

"As all of you know, besides the surge in monsters strength and emergence of Ghost Towns, the nation has been hit by another devestating news six days ago. It is to our great loss that we announce that Master Kimoto, an exceptional ally of the Demon Hunter Association, has disappeared. We now suspect he might’ve fallen in battle to someone."

Hearing that, most of the demon hunters in the room couldn’t help but frown, their hearts heavy.

Master Kimoto’s strength was synonymous to strongest in Nihono, for him to fall...

It was like the a part of the sky fell.

"Even more terrible news, his disappearance was leaked to the underworld," Shiho continued. "Right now, the association has received many reports across the nation of spotting relevant people in the rogue awakener wanted list. Wanting to take advantage of the chaos in the nation, they’re now emerging from whatever sewer they came from."

She shook he head.

"Furthermore, the world, and especially Nihono, has seen an exponential increase in Demonic Armanents sighting. Just in Kasuragi Province alone, there are five Demonic Armanents that went wild. In total, the nation has received reports of at least twenty Demonic Armaments across the nation, rapidly increasing as we speak."

Most of everyone’s expressions turned heavy.

"The events I just mentioned are related to the mission you guys are about to take," Shiho paused, then continued. "The association has received an intel report from a spy in the underworld. The Ghost Masks, an SS-rate rogue awakener syndicate, is planning to steal the national relic Otsuma-Shiyezo-Io."

Hearing that, everyone was startled, the captains showing a deep frown.

"Since some are new here, I’ll explain who the Ghost Masks are," Shiho continued. "The Ghost Masks are a six-person team of rogue awakeners with at least B-rank talents. Their leader is called the Shinigami, a suspected Limit Individual with a strength not inferior to the captain of the 10th Demon Hunter Squad."

Hearing that, the captains relaxed slightly.

"We have secured Otsuma-Shiyezo-Io to a safe place, but after further consideration, we plan to use it as a bait instead to lure out the rouge awakeners that are desiring for it. Your job is to clean the rats while ensuring that Otsuma-Shiyezo-Io is being protected."

At that moment, the captain of the 7th Demon Hunter Squad raised their hands.

Shiho nodded.

"Captain Minato, please speak."

Captain Minato cleared his throat before asking. "Chairman, Ms. Shiho, but if it’s just the Ghosts Masks, isn’t gathering having four of us too much for this operation?"

Most in the room nodded.

Knowing the nation’s current situation, it would be unwise to overstaff in this mission, especially if the Ghost Masks leader is only a Limit Individual.

On the front seat, Nagito only smiled slightly.

"Mhm," Shiho nodded, seemingly understanding this point. "That would be true if... the Ghosts Masks are your only enemy."

Hearing that, everyone fell silent.

The captains narrowed their eyes.

"According to the intel we received, someone is commissioning the underworld to steal Otsuma-Shiyezo-Io," Shiho continued. "The Ghost Masks have proactively accepted this mission, but many other rogue awakeners are also tailing from behind, intending to take advantage of the chaos."

"Considering that..." Shiho paused, then continued. "Other SS-class groups may appear. Worse, even Karasu could make an appearance."

Hearing that, everyone’s eyes widened slightly.

Arima’s eyes finally opened.

"Is it confirmed?" He asked.

"No." Shiho shook her head. But she added, "But it’s very likely."

Everyone fell silent, losing their complacency.

Akihito was confused when he saw everyone suddenly tense.

"... What’s the Karasu Group?" He asked Namita quietly.

But before Namita could answer, Shiho answered on his stead, seemingly hearing his whispers.

"The Karasu Group is the only SSS-class rogue awakener syndicate in the world, with their leader suspected to be a Special."

"...!" 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Akihito’s eyes widened in shock.

He naturally knew what Special meant.

An S-rank talent individual, an existence close to a Singularity

Now he understood why everyone was suddenly worried.

"Anymore questions?"

Shiho swept her gaze to the room, but no one raised their hands.

"All squads will be patrolling in Hyotekye for the time being. Please be alert. Focus on the Ghost Masks, but if other SS-class rogue awakener groups appear, you may report."

"Understood?"

Everyone nodded.

"Understood!"

But before they were dismissed, Nagito tapped the table, gathering everyone’s attention.

"Be careful, rogue awakeners are different from monsters. They can be a much more difficult opponent.

"Alright, meeting dismissed. Goodluck."
