God Ash: Remnants of the fallen.-Chapter 777: Interlude Confrontation (3).
"I shall battle the human woman." Olirod said, the flames cascading down his shoulders as he flexed his muscles.
Evangeline calmly drew her daggers as she stepped forward.
The Dwarf let out a grunt, but folded his hands. It seemed he didn’t want to object. The other creatures of the godly realm seemed to have the same sentiments as well.
Cain gave Asteron a slight nod.
The {Wind Drake} sighed quietly, then turned to Olirod, who didn’t seem to be paying attention to much else besides Evangeline.
He paused for a moment, then said,
"If you are defeated, your entire clan will know shame."
Olirod turned to him. The flames clad his face, so his expression was not that clear to make out.
However, judging from the flames licking his blackened teeth, it was obvious the {Flameskin Troll} had a massive grin on his face,
"A human cannot defeat me, Asteron. Guten was young and foolish. That was why he was killed by the cowardly fiends. In the end, I must avenge him and regain my clan’s honour."
Asteron stared at him for a moment, then shook his head,
"Is that so..."
Then he turned to Evangeline,
"Your fate now lies in your hands."
Cain couldn’t help but feel impressed. While he still had his doubts about the {Wind Drake}, he had figured something out about its character.
In anything at all, it was a rather virtuous beast. Asteron had his own set of convictions which he seemed determined to stick by, all for the sake of completing his goal.

A few minutes later, a small clearing had been made.
To one side, Olirod stood menacingly glaring at Evangeline.
On the other side, Evangeline carefully inspected her weapons.
"So, you think you can take him?" Cain asked her suddenly.
She paused for a while, then shrugged,
"Maybe? I’m not too sure."
Cain smiled wryly. Indeed, that had to be the case.
The {Flameskin Troll} was anything but weak. In fact, it was just a little less, if not just as strong as Asteron.
Cain didn’t think he would be able to beat Asteron in a duel, which meant Evangeline didn’t think so either.
Although he didn’t have any Celestial blood, the {Flameskin Troll} possessed the innate ability to control the flame element. As an ancestral trait, abilities and skills based off of this had grown to be rather terrifying.
There was no way she would be feeling confident.
At least, that was how it was supposed to be.
But Cain wasn’t buying it, not one bit.
He was curious to see how Evangeline would get out of this mess he has created for her.
Judging by the slight bend in the corner of her lips as she finished her preparations, it seemed like she was too.
He knew that even till now, she refused to show him how much she was capable of, preferring to keep her abilities hidden.
However, that was going to change now as he was going to force her hand.
Whether she liked it or not, a foe such as Olirod was not going to be easy to kill.
A heavy silence settled over the clearing, thick with the anticipation of bloodshed.
The loose circle formed around them shifted.
Jenny wore a slightly concerned look on her face,
"You sure she’s going to be okay?"
Cain shook his head,
"No. But she better be."
If course he had faith in her, but he couldn’t be too sure. Battles like these could go either way at any time. It would be presumptuous to make any judgements now.
Olirod’s flames roared with renewed intensity, the heat distorting the air around him. His four muscular arms flexed, each movement rippling with the promise of overwhelming force. He towered over Evangeline, his blackened, rune-etched skin gleaming ominously.
Evangeline, on the other hand, remained silent. The daggers in her grip gleamed faintly under the flickering light of Olirod’s fire. She stood light on her feet, her posture loose but prepared, her expression unreadable.
Cain, watching from the sidelines, folded his arms. His gaze flicked between the two combatants. He had forced this situation to unfold, and now he would see just what Evangeline was capable of.
Asteron raised his head. "Begin."
Olirod wasted no time.
With an earth-shaking roar, he launched himself forward, his entire body an inferno of destruction. His first attack was a downward axe swing, powerful enough to cleave a boulder in two. The force of it howled through the air, the sheer heat warping the space around the blade.
Evangeline was already moving.
Her form flickered like a shadow, slipping past the devastating strike with barely an inch to spare. The axe struck the ground where she had stood, an explosion of embers and molten earth bursting outward from the impact.
Olirod grinned, twisting with inhuman agility. His second arm swung out in a backhand strike, aiming to catch her mid-dodge.
Evangeline ducked under it, using the momentum to slide across the scorched ground.
’They are fast.’ Cain muttered.
The moves of both combatants were seamless, each attack blending right into the other like well rehearsed choreography.
The {Flameskin Troll} wasn’t finished though. His other two arms moved in unison, sweeping his second axe horizontally while conjuring a blazing fireball in his free hand. He flung the fireball toward Evangeline, cutting off her escape path.
The instant before it reached her, she melted into the shadows and vanished.
The flames exploded, sending a wave of heat through the battlefield. Yet, as the embers cleared, Evangeline reappeared behind Olirod, her daggers already flashing toward his exposed back.
A lesser opponent would have fallen right there.
But Olirod was no fool.
Without even turning, the {Flameskin Troll} shifted his stance, slamming his elbow backward. Evangeline barely managed to twist mid-air, her blade missing his neck by a hair’s breadth. Instead, she landed a quick, glancing cut across his shoulder.
The wound sizzled.
For a moment, the battle paused. Olirod turned his head slightly, glancing at the shallow slash on his arm. Then, he let out a low, guttural chuckle.
"You think that’s enough?" His voice rumbled like an oncoming storm.
A flash of white light sizzled across his fingertips for a moment.
Then he gripped both axes tightly. His flames surged and turned into a violent blaze that coiled around both axe heads. The ground beneath him blackened, and the air became suffocatingly thick with heat.
Cain’s eyes narrowed.
"He seems fired up for some reason." Roselle murmured lightly with a frown.
Olirod slammed one axe into the ground. The other one saw sent flying towards Evangeline, who dodged it with graceful finesse as she closed in on him again.
Olirod spread two of his palms out. A magic circle appeared at the tip of each finger
Then molten fissures erupted from them, fire spilling forth in chaotic jets. The flames rose in spiraling waves.
A few of the surrounding creatures were forced to take a step back.
Susan’s expression turned grim. As much as she wanted to say she didn’t , she couldn’t help but be worried.
The {Flameskin Troll} was absolutely dominating the battle. All Evangeline could do for now, was avoid its Earth shattering blows,
"She can’t keep dodging forever in this environment." Susan said after watching for a while.
Cain’s grin widened.
"Let’s see."
Olirod lunged again, the fire bending to his will, closing around Evangeline like a living entity. His axes moved like twin reapers, carving paths of destruction with every swing.
But Evangeline…
She danced.
Like a specter, she weaved through the chaos, slipping between flame and steel with impossible precision. Her movements were effortless, as if she were merely strolling through a garden rather than dodging an onslaught of deadly strikes.
Cain’s gaze sharpened.
’There it is…’

Evangeline had rarely fought seriously in front of them. But now, as she evaded death at every turn, something shifted in the air.
The darkness around her deepened. The shadows at her feet began to coil and ripple unnaturally.
Olirod swung both axes down in a crushing overhead blow.
Evangeline didn’t move.
For a fraction of a second, Cain felt a strange sensation—like reality itself had been embraced by the darkness of the abyss itself.
Then—
The shadows beneath her burst forth.
Like the maw of a terrifying abyssal creature.
Olirod let out a thunderous snort,
"Petty tricks!"

Then his axes slammed into the shadows, turning them into wisps, sending up a shockwave of molten rock that exploding into shards the moment made impact.
The crowd erupted into mad cheers. That move from Olirod was simply too overbearing. If he had not controlled the output, he might have put a hole through the floating platform.
Evangeline reappeared from the shadows and continued to stare at the {Flameskin Troll} with a blank expression.
Olirod wore a Savage grin as he twirled his axes again.
In response, Evangeline simply raised a hand and beckoned him with her long, dainty fingers,
"Come..."
