God Ash: Remnants of the fallen.-Chapter 786: Eye of the Beholder.
***
{Congratulations to Host... You have acquired the internal active skill, Beholder's Eye}.
{Beholder's Eye}:
Description: In the beginning, there were seven God and Seven Devils. Each possessed special abilities and trials. One had power over death, another power over the skies. One had the ability to control the elements, and another the tendency to bring chaos wherever it went.
There was one. A God.
A God that possessed the ability to see through all things.
A God that bore a tragic fate.
The ability to witness all things.
Eyes that could behold all. All horrors and glory. All terrors and things lovely.
The God did not want to see anymore.
So it plucked its eyes out. Continue reading at novelbuddy
And cast them into the void.

Something in him had changed.
His old left eye had been taken away, and it had been replaced with something else.
He had lost his {Eye of Clairvoyance}.
The skill was gone. It had been terminated, just like that.
In its place, however, was a new, somewhat improved version of the same ability.
The {Beholder's Eye} belonged to that mystical great evil he had seen in the vision.
It had given him its eye in exchange for being able to see what couldn't be seen.
He has passed the trial, but in return, he had gained an evil god's blessing.
And curse.
His perception stat had skyrocketed, yo the point he almost didn't believe it.
His vision had also become omini-directional.
It was too much.
But for some reason, the influx of sensory information didn't render him helpless.
For some reason, it made him feel more alive.
The wisps of air that coiled around him.
The movement of mana in response to the beings present.
He could see it all.
He could see it even more clearly than ever before.
'The Beholder's Eye. So that thing was the beholder.'

Cain shivered.
He couldn't help but feel a bit of fear.
He had no doubt his reckoning would come. After all this ability could very well be a curse. How that was possible? He had no idea for now.
But he was going to find out.
He sighed then turned to Viden,
"When is the next trial starting?"
Viden hummed, "Considering the time left of the Trial of Heaven, I'd say I ought to give you a day or two to rest. How does that sound?"
Cain laughed dryly,
"Yeah, we appreciate that a lot."
Viden gave a small bow,
"This is quite unprecedented. Usually, those who pass the third trial do not receive those special eyes. Hence, the truth is never revealed to them. Your case is a bit different, so the last trial will be a bit... different from what is usually done."
With that, the body of the enormous Arbitrator turned into motes of darkness that sank into the ground, disappearing a second later.
Jenny fell on her behind to the ground with a tired sigh,
"I don't think I can take this much longer."
They were all tired, exhausted. Both mentally and physically.
Luckily, they were all still alive. With all their limbs intact too. Fortune had not abandoned them yet.
Cain shook his head then turned around.
"Rest up. We don't have a lot of time."
Then he dropped to the ground.
Then entire ordeal has left him drained.
From a battle against a bunch of nightmarish fiends from the Hell Realms, to an absolute fever dream experience where he came face to face with an evil entity that has taken his eye away, he had ever right to be a little tired.
Sensing Cain's foul mood, Susan gave him a nod,
"We'll leave you be."
The silence enveloped him, like a blanket, allowing him to relax a bit.
He let out a sigh.
Then he opened his eyes.
The {Beholder's Eye} was rather peculiar.
Unlike {Eye of Clairvoyance}, it did consume a steep amount of mana when in use, so using it all the time was not a wide choice.
In return, it was quite a powerful skill, like an upg added version of {Eye of Clairvoyance} with a few added features.
Now, not only could he see very far away, he could also see the hidden truths of the world. He could see through shadows and illusions.
He could see through disguises and lies.
By definition, this ability was a blessing.
He frowned, 'How could it be a curse, so much so the original owner cast it into the void...'
Besides all that, he could also sense the mana flow patterns better now.
His ability to see the flow of mana has become clearer as well. That way, he would be able to detect magical phenomenon before they even happen.
He used a magic spell.
A pulsating orb of flames appeared in his outstretched palm.
His left eye began to flow with otherworldly light. In the depths of his eye, thousands upon thousands of indiscernible runes took shape to form a singular rune.
It was beautiful and terrifying at the same time.
Cain observed the spell.
'I thought so...'
Not only could the ability allow him to see through the nature of spells, he could now properly decode them.
The most terrifying thing about magic spells, was the inability to really know what they were.
Most spells could be countered on an elemental basis, but fundamentally, they were all different, had different activation methods, and behaved in different ways as well.
With his new eye, he would be able to improve his own spells and render the spells of his enemies useless so long as he had encountered the spell previously.
He frowned, then deactivated both spells.
He lay down gently on the cold ground, his brows furrowed.
'It all didn't truly exist.'
The creatures he had killed had most likely died thousands of years ago.
What he had killed were phantoms of the tower's memories.
Those he had conversed with were also phantoms as well.
And yet, it had felt so real.
While the individuals didn't take up special corners of his heart, the events did.
The horrors of the journey to reach this godforsaken place had been real to him.
The terror of the first trial had been even more so
The feeling of suffocation, of death closing in in the third trial was real to him. The rage filled roars of Asteron, the dying groans of Midread, Thern's war cries...
They were all real.
Cain closed his eyes and thought back to Viden's words.
"Trust what you see, doubt your interpretation. Your eyes, the eyes you have been given, they do not lie."
Cain's brows scrunched up,
'So my interpretation of what I saw might be the problem. He didn't explicitly say that they did not exist. Rather, that was my interpretation of what I saw.'
In that case, while what he saw might have been truthful, his interpretation could be tainted by his humanity.
He frowned deeper.
That... made sense. A bit.
He saw Asteron battle the nightmarish Blightbeast until he tore it apart and swallowed it. He saw Avalon's wings be torn from his back and his heart almost pierced through before he was saved by Thern.
He saw Grimm descend into a mad frenzy as he tore through bodies until there were no more.
He saw Cello burn through the corrupted bodies trying to make her way through the fog before she was stabbed through the back by a bladder limb her fate unknown.
Then, he saw the fog swallow them all.
And they became a part of it.
No— they had always been a part of the fog.
He saw them unravel. At their very existence. They couldn't have been real. The fog wouldn't spare them but do such a terrifying thing to the rest. That he was sure of.
'The River of fate flows linearly in all directions. The past leads to the present and future, but without the past, then both are naught.'
His eyes began to feel heavy.
'Maybe this is a problem of perspective.' He thought to himself.
In the end, he could never be sure.
Finally, he could not escape it anymore.
He fell asleep.
Into a dream.
A dream filled with nightmares.

"A human, huh..."
Viden looked down at the tiny creature shuffling between shelves beneath him.
Despite the creature's size, he didn't dare look down on him.
After all, this creature was the true master of this tower.
Viden chuckled, "Indeed. The latest batch of participants are quite entertaining."
The man, who was dressed in a deep, rich lavender robe muttered to himself as he sifted through the books in the enormous library.
"I see."
He looked up at Viden,
"It was unexpected for a human to acquire those eyes. But it matters not. Maybe this will become a significant event in this era of change."
The man looked entirely human. However, there were a few anomalies.
For one, he was extraordinarily beautiful. He also had a gem inlaid on his forehead. His eyes were like clear cut diamonds, and a strange rune that did not have meaning was inscribed onto his left cheek.
"The Beholder's Eye is a rather unique treasure. I would also have it fall into the hands of a human rather than those who wish to spread even more chaos in the myriad realms." Viden said.
The man in Lavender nodded,
"I couldn't agree with you more. But enough of that. Help me reach for that book on the top shelf. Yes, that one. I'd rather not go back all the way to get the ladder. Ah, what a pain."
