Chapter 508: Chapter 508: The Wooden House

"Didn’t you see? The Giant seems to be looking for something among the giant Secret Spirits and isn’t interested in collecting Heavenly and Earthly Treasures anymore." Gu Shan said.

"Can’t you let it rest for a while?" Purple Robe responded defiantly.

Suddenly, everyone saw the Giant pointing towards one of the giant Secret Spirits with its hand.

That giant Secret Spirit was a black behemoth, too robust to name.

When the Giant pointed at it, it instantly became excited, galloping to the Giant’s front and squatting like a dog.

The other giant Secret Spirits seemed very disappointed, turning back and disappearing into the river, not a trace left behind.

The Giant hefted a basket onto its back and turned to head back the way it came, with the giant Secret Spirit following closely behind.

"What does this mean? Why did the Giant choose a giant Secret Spirit?" Fujimura Reiko pondered aloud.

"Maybe it’s taking it home as a pet." Purple Robe suggested.

"Or perhaps it’s taking it back as a snack." Gu Shan interjected.

"Look at that giant Secret Spirit’s demeanor; how could it be taken back to be slaughtered?" Purple Robe argued.

"As long as the Giant doesn’t say, how would it know it’s being taken back to be killed? It probably thinks it finally made it to shore and can now live the good life with the Giant." Gu Shan replied.

"Maybe it really will live the good life." Purple Robe insisted.

"Hmm, pigs think the same before they’re fattened up." Gu Shan said indifferently.

"Who are you insulting?" Purple Robe retorted angrily, hands on hips.

Gu Shan recoiled slightly and said nothing further.

"I’ll go take a look." Chen Guan, now with a plan, decided to follow and see the situation, instructing Fujimura Reiko to wait for him to return.

"We’ll go too." Purple Robe and Gu Shan followed along.

"I’ll join as well." Wang Lian hesitated momentarily but came along.

Chen Guan thought, "With Spiritual Power within me, I should be safe here. Why are you all following?"

Of course, he wouldn’t say this aloud. If they wanted to take the risk, it was their business, not his to comment on.

It wasn’t just Chen Guan and company; Qin Qiu, Chu Jianfeng, Jiang Sanxin, Shang Tianyin, and even Gong Mingwang brought people along.

In an instant, many followed behind the Giant and the giant Secret Spirit, eager to find out what was happening.

Since learning this was the Blessed Secret Realm, Qin Qiu and the others were less apprehensive.

With their abilities, even if they encountered top-tier Three Awakened Secret Gods, they had a chance to escape, as long as they weren’t instantly killed, they had some means to survive.

The Giant paid them no heed, probably regarding them as less than ants, like bacteria, if it could even see them at all.

The giant Secret Spirit, following closely behind the Giant, also ignored them, its eyes filled with happiness.

"That giant Secret Spirit really thinks it’s going to live the good life." Gu Shan commented with a sneer.

"Maybe it really is going to live the good life?" Purple Robe again contradicted him.

"What do you think, Purple Brother?" Qin Qiu walked over and asked.

"I don’t know." Chen Guan shook his head and simply followed along.

Everyone felt some apprehension, unsure of where they’d eventually end up or what they might see.

This direction had been scouted by Qin Qiu’s team before, resulting in no scouts returning, leaving them with no information.

They needed to find out where the power that crushed the pet’s head came from.

It was still uncertain whether that power came from this Giant.

The Giant continued forward, and after some time, a house suddenly appeared in the vegetable field ahead.

Everyone was surprised; the house’s size was clearly human-scaled, like a marble in front of the Giant, impossible to be its dwelling.

"Could it be... there are humans here..." Chen Guan was stunned. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

He had thought it was the Spirit Devouring God’s Secret Garden here. If the Spirit Devouring God wasn’t present, he might pretend to be the Spirit Devouring God or its messenger.

The suddenly appearing house disrupted Chen Guan’s original plan.

That house was a two-story wooden structure, using mortise and tenon joints, its style common to humans—clearly not the work of a Secret Spirit.

The Giant approached the wooden house and stopped at a distance.

The Giant set down the basket, sitting down like a mountain.

It then pointed to the empty space in front of the wooden house.

The giant Secret Spirit seemed to understand something, running to the empty space in front of the house and sitting there, waiting expectantly.

"Big Guy, do you prefer braised or steamed?" A voice came from within the wooden house. Although it wasn’t loud, it was clear enough for even beings like the Giant to hear, as well as for Chen Guan and those in the distance.

The giant Secret Spirit obviously heard it too; its Spiritual Wisdom wasn’t low, as it seemed to comprehend some of it. Upon hearing these words, its pupils contracted, and its previous expectation and excitement vanished.

Almost immediately, the giant Secret Spirit turned to flee.

But it used all its strength only to find itself treading in place, as if an invisible force was holding it, preventing its escape.

"Skin and clean it first. Since guests have arrived today, we can’t be too negligent; it’s best to prepare the food well." The voice from inside the wooden house spoke again.

However, the words made everyone frown.

Before they could mull over the deeper meaning of those words, a sudden scream echoed, and the giant Secret Spirit’s entire hide was peeled off like removing a winter coat.

Yet, there was no one else nearby, no one approached it; it was purely that force stripping its hide from it.

Without its hide, the Secret Spirit howled in agony, trying to flee but only managed a few steps before all its blood was drawn like a waterfall and it collapsed, twitching lifelessly.

Everyone felt a chilling dread as they once again looked towards the wooden house, seeing a long-haired man with smooth, dark-red skin standing at the doorway, unknown when he appeared.

Though he didn’t look old, with hair and skin comparable to a young man’s and a straight stance, for some reason, he appeared elderly, a feeling that couldn’t be articulated.

"Big Guy, roast it; we need to entertain guests soon." The man looked on indifferently, his gaze turning to where Chen Guan and the others were. "Since you guests are here, why not come in for a chat."

Qin Qiu and the others exchanged glances as if reaching some tacit understanding, then walked toward the wooden house.
