Chapter 137: Chapter 137 Ned

Before Ned could argue again, the dark clouds directly above the Red Keep ripped open.

Arya gasped. A massive, heavy shadow dropped straight down from the sky. It fell so fast it blurred, tearing through the smoke and smashing right into the top of the castle. The shockwave hit them a second later, rattling the wooden doors in the alley and knocking Septa Mordane straight to her knees in the mud.

A single, bright beam of sunlight pierced the hole in the clouds, shining directly down onto the ruined Keep.

Ned stared at the light, completely stunned. His hand slowly let go of the Scout’s tunic.

"Father, come on!" Arya yelled. She grabbed his arm and pulled hard. "We have to go!"

Ned finally nodded. He turned his back on the burning castle, set his crutch in the mud, and followed the Scout toward the open city gates.

Back in the courtyard of the Red Keep, Alaric kept his eyes on the giant bone dragon. Black fire spilled from its jaws, turning the cobblestones into bubbling slag.

The green light from the wildfire still pulsed deep inside the crater, growing brighter by the second.

"System," Alaric said, raising his voice over the roaring flames. "Is there any way to stop the wildfire?"

The blue screen flashed instantly.

[Wildfire chain reaction detected.]

[Cost to suppress explosion for 30 minutes: 6,000 MP.]

Alaric gritted his teeth. Six thousand points was a massive hit. He glanced back through the open gates, looking down the long hill. Thousands of people were running through the streets, pushing each other to escape the walls. If the deep cellars blew right now, half the city would be wiped out.

"Do it," Alaric commanded.

[6,000 MP deducted.]

Instantly, the violent green glow leaking from the crater dimmed and froze. He just bought the city thirty minutes.

Alaric looked at his screen. [Current MP Balance: 6,920].

He looked at Balerion. The dead dragon was pulling its massive HEAD out of the rubble. Alaric looked at his single stone gargoyle. Thirty feet of solid rock was impressive, but Balerion was the size of a mountain. One gargoyle wasn’t going to be enough to hold the beast down.

He didn’t hesitate. He opened the summoning tab and selected the Sky-Scourge Sentinel one more time.

"Summon," he said.

[6,000 MP deducted.]

High above, the black clouds ripped open again. A second heavy shadow dropped straight down from the sky. It tore through the smoke and smashed into the courtyard right next to the first one. Dust and loose stone blew past Alaric as the new thirty-foot gargoyle stood up, resting its giant axe on its shoulder.

Now, he had two stone titans and six Blood Knights standing in a line right behind him.

Alaric opened his inventory. He selected the Disharmony Gauntlet. A thick, dark metal glove materialized over his left hand and forearm, locking into place with a sharp click. It felt heavy and cold.

He reached over and wrapped the gauntlet around the hilt of his broadsword, the Red Eclipse.

The second the strange metal touched his sword, a new blue box popped up.

[Item Synergy Detected.]

[The ’Disharmony Gauntlet’ has synchronized with ’The Red Eclipse’.]

[New Effect: As long as you hold the blade with the gauntlet, your sword carries magic-disrupting properties. Your cuts will shatter magical constructs and spells.]

Alaric read the words. He tightened his grip on the hilt. The dark red steel of his sword gave off a faint, humming vibration.

He looked up at the giant flaming skull of the Black Dread. The beast let out another deafening roar, blowing a wave of hot black fire into the air.

Miles away, the army camp outside the walls had just started to calm down. Then, the black clouds over the city ripped open for a second time.

Every head turned upward. Another massive shadow dropped from the sky, plummeting straight down through the single beam of sunlight. It crashed into the top of Aegon’s High Hill with another heavy, distant boom.

"Another one!" Mace Tyrell yelled, his voice cracking. He pointed a shaking, fat finger at the hill. "Are they throwing rocks at the city?"

Olenna Tyrell didn’t answer. She gripped her cane and squinted at the ruined Keep. The thick, sickly green smoke that had been pouring out of the castle had suddenly stopped. The bright green glow was fading.

But something else was taking its place. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

The Red Keep sat on the highest hill in King’s Landing. From the fields outside the walls, the soldiers had a clear view of the broken towers and the flat, ruined top of the Great Hall.

Slowly, a new shape rose from the rubble.

A heavy, dead silence spread through the front lines of the Tyrell army. Thousands of men stopped shouting. They just stared.

It was only a head, but it was massive. Even from miles away, they could clearly see the shape of the giant skull pushing up over the broken castle walls. It was the size of a large tavern, made of dark, fossilized bone. Thick rows of jagged teeth glinted in the sunlight.

Then, the jaws opened wide. A massive pillar of pitch-black fire, streaked with blood-red, shot straight up into the sky. It burned so hot that the air around the hill warped and blurred.

Mace Tyrell slowly lowered his hand. He looked like he was going to be sick. "Is that... a dragon?"

The heat radiating from the crater was unbelievable. Alaric didn’t feel it burning his skin, thanks to the bright sunlight, but he could clearly see what it was doing to the courtyard.

The heavy stone cobblestones near the dragon’s jaws were actually melting. They hissed and bubbled, turning into a thick, glowing orange sludge. The air around the crater warped so badly it looked like water.

Balerion jerked its massive head. Tons of broken castle rock tumbled down into the hole. Thick, fossilized neck bones appeared. The ground shook again as the beast tried to pull its giant front claws out of the deep cellar.

Alaric watched the dirt and stone fall away from the monster’s shoulders. He took a slow breath.

"If that thing gets its whole body out of the ground, I am completely fucked," Alaric muttered to himself.
