Great Demon Sun Wukong-Chapter 286 - 275: The Truth of History?
Fen Yan and the others were somewhat shocked; they never expected Ming An to possess such an intense devotion to the so-called Underworld Venerate, a worship that seemed unweakened by the eons since that great battle, which by his account, must have occurred billions of years ago. Such a lengthy span of time had done nothing to diminish their reverence. To think that merely uttering the name could provoke him to the brink of mutual destruction, this fervent belief was indeed terrifying!
"Then could you tell us who exactly the Underworld Venerate is? Why have we never heard of him? Also, in this Underworld God Army of yours, how many are there with strength like yours? And where does your power stand in comparison?" Fen Yan’s questions were cleverly posed; his interest lay not in the secrets of that great battle but rather in the combat power of these people, or to be more blunt, whether these people could be of any use to him!
It’s important to note that in this trial of the Patrolling Celestial World, each power could only bring thirty-six people, and the loss of even one was significant. And now, his Myriad Demons Country had already lost three members right at the start, putting them at a disadvantage. Moreover, he had realized that the members of this so-called Underworld God Army were indeed very strong.
In a five-on-five situation, these members of the Underworld God Army not only lacked any Magical Weapons, they weren’t even in their peak condition, and each of them bore various injuries. Yet even so, had it not been for the timely arrival of his own five, his side might have been annihilated, with one adversary still alive.
That is to say, within this Patrolling Celestial World, the Underworld God Army possessed combat power at least equal to the participants of this trial. Fen Yan was confident that with the aid of just thirty to forty people, he could obliterate any power.
This was why Fen Yan hadn’t rushed to kill this man; sparing him could lead to exploitation. But killing him might entail nothing more than revenge for the dead and, more seriously, it could provoke retaliation from other members of the Underworld God Army, which could lead to the Myriad Gods Hall being the first to be eliminated.
Moreover, through Ming An’s words, Fen Yan had come to understand something about the Underworld God Army; though he didn’t know the details, he perceived that they were a group of captured soldiers with strong combat capabilities, unity, and determination. Any ordinary person, bearing such shackles and trapped in a world for billions of years, would either go mad or take their own life.
Unbeknownst to Ming An, Fen Yan had already pondered so much in such a short time. Upon hearing them address him differently, Ming An’s anger in his eyes slowly dissipated, "The Underworld Venerate was a great individual capable of contending with the Pioneer. However, being outnumbered and alone, he was eventually defeated and sealed by the Pioneer. Aside from those captured, all other members of the Underworld God Army perished in battle. Not even the greatest War Generals of the Underworld Venerate survived. As for your ignorance of these events, I presume you can guess why."
At this point, Ming An looked up at Fen Yan. Fen Yan nodded, now understanding why he knew nothing of the Underworld Venerate and the so-called Underworld God Army. History is often written by the victors. And it’s facile for the victors to erase certain elements from the river of history if they choose to.
Moreover, billions of years or even more have passed, so the history people know today is merely what the victors have recounted. This doesn’t mean it’s entirely false, but neither is it completely true. Take, for example, the ultimate battle that took place billions of years ago, as Fen Yan understood it.

This ultimate battle is indeed mentioned in current legends as the largest war since the universe’s creation, unparalleled in both the scale of its influence and its extreme ferocity. It remains memorable because the Lord Pioneer, the creator of this universe, met his end in that very battle.
Legend has it that the war started with the sudden emergence of a group of destroyers in the universe, people who delighted in demolition and slaughter, crazily destroying every planet they encountered. Some said they were creatures from another universe invading, while others believed they were a group of ambitious individuals united in a plot to overturn this universe.
Regardless of the theory, a consensus was that among these people, one individual was incredibly powerful, a being so mighty that they were even slightly superior to the Pioneer, the opener of worlds. The ensuing war saw victories on both sides, until eventually, the entire universe became engulfed in the conflict.
What Lord Pioneer didn’t expect was that when the war spread to the entire universe, his side did not gain an advantage but instead began to fall behind. Many planets and both High-Level and Intermediate Worlds surprisingly defected to join the malevolent enemy forces. With no choice left, Lord Pioneer had to initiate a final battle prematurely, but due to inadequate preparation, the scales of victory quickly tipped.
In the end, it was Lord Pioneer, at the cost of his own sacrifice, who sealed away the strongest of the malevolent entities along with his many War Generals, effectively sealing nearly half of the tremendous army. Thus, victory ultimately belonged to Lord Pioneer’s side, which included all the major High-Level and Intermediate Worlds. The Nine Great Divine Kingdoms were also established after that war, all of which were High-Level Worlds that had contributed significantly during the conflict.
This was what Fen Yan knew about that great war. Although other versions existed, this narrative was the most widespread and widely accepted across the universe. However, the identity of that strongest person sealed by Lord Pioneer wasn’t mentioned in the legend, described merely as a malevolent individual. Experience tales at novelbuddy
But now it seemed that Fen Yan had unintentionally glimpsed some truths of that war, at least knowing that the person strong enough to rival the Pioneer was known as Underworld Venerate, and his army was called the Underworld God Army.
As Fen Yan continued to reflect, Ming An didn’t wait for him and proceeded to say, "My strength should be at the Peak Supreme level according to current standards. In fact, my strength hasn’t increased or decreased over these myriad years; it’s just that my body is no longer as it was. However, my strength during the days of the Underworld God Army was only at an intermediate rank. Above me were the Chief Captains, Legion Commanders, and the highest-ranking Commanders. Higher still were the few War Generals under Lord Underworld Venerate. Yet, after the conclusion of the war, all of us with a position higher than a squad captain, except those who died in battle, were killed. Among the captives, my strength, as a small team leader, was already the strongest."
Upon hearing Ming An’s words, Fen Yan turned to glance at Jue Cha and after seeing him nod in confirmation, Fen Yan couldn’t help but be inwardly shocked. The strength of the Underworld God Army was too formidable, wasn’t it? If Peak Supreme was just a small team leader, wouldn’t those with Domain Lord Level power only qualify as a Chief Captain? Then how powerful must the Legion Commanders and even the Commanders themselves be? And to think that Lord Pioneer alone had sealed away nearly half of such forces, how incredibly powerful must he have been?
As these thoughts crossed his mind, Fen Yan suddenly thought of something and asked, "How have you managed to live for so long?"
"Because as long as we wear these shackles, our lives become eternal, transformed into Immortal, eternally living beings."
Hearing this, Fen Yan’s eyes suddenly lit up. Eternal life? Just by wearing these shackles one could live forever? And the only cost was the need for more Spiritual Power? By that logic, if he and his allies all donned these shackles…
