Getting to the first target would be impossible before the other players who spawned close to it. Hence, Max chose to get to the school, which was located halfway and the location where the thief who got the target would visit to score a point.

The tournament was 30 minutes long; it was a short game. Each point would be a precious commodity that all players sought.

Arriving at the school, Max climbed the fence and stood on it. The first he noticed was a pedestal on the field, around 1 meter high. It had a blue glow that caught everyone's attention.

'That must be it. But…' He looked around the area and noticed another pedestal on the roof and one near the gym. 'There are other pedestals, huh? I won't be surprised if there are some inside the school too. I guess it's to prevent the players from camping around it.'

Still, Max didn't really mind that. The target was still shown in the mini-map, although it was now moving toward his direction. Someone had taken it and was now on their way to earn a point.

Looking at its general direction, Max muttered, "That way, huh?"

He jumped down the fence and landed spectacularly before breaking into a run. After getting a good look at the school, he knew camping would be useless without working with the other players. And working with other players was forbidden by the rules.

So, the best bet was to wait on the path between the target and the school and steal it at that moment.

'He will pass this way.'

Stopping at a three-way intersection 100 meters from the school, Max hid behind a building pillar while looking at the minimap. According to the speed, the one holding the target would arrive in 10 seconds.

The red dot was slowly approaching him. He was ready to jump, shoot, and snatch the target. However, something unexpected happened. The red dot suddenly made a 90-degree turn and went to the left just before the intersection, through the building.

Max's eyes widened in surprise, and he jumped out from his hiding place, looking at the place where the red dot was. At that moment, he realized he hadn't played this game a lot yet.

"Goddamn it!"

Two people appeared from the intersection. They were Moxy and UloTai. Noticing Max, the former shouted.

"Puppeteer get the target! If you don't want him to score, then you better chase after him!"

Max registered his words but didn't look at him. Instead, he looked at Puppeteer, who glided over the sky toward the next building.

'There are shoes like that?'

He didn't know that there were shoes that allowed someone to fly… Or at least glide in the air. It was something new for him, who almost never opened the shop. Many also did not favor those shoes as they had limited use.

Unlike the others, Max didn't chase after Puppeteer. He knew it was useless. Rather than doing that, he preferred to stay and look at the map.

"Museum on the North, Bank on the South, Midnight Club on the East, and the Luxurious House on the West." He muttered under his breath and nodded to himself. "There is no way the target will appear in the museum again. Let's gamble and head to Southwest."

The red dot still approached the school at a steady but slow pace. It seemed like Puppeteer's plan was to get as many points and waste as much time as possible so he would still stay on top. It was a good plan for someone as skilled as him.

Most probably, the reason Puppeteer took the shoes with an ability to glide in the air instead of the one that increased speed on the ground might be to counter his movement. After all, they had seen what each other was capable of.

Max ran toward the Southwest without hesitation. He looked at the air and met eyes with Puppeteer, who was nearing the school now.

He immediately shot him with the tranquilizer gun. The energy bullet flew toward the gliding man, but he managed to dodge it by twisting his body.

Looking down, the man smirked at him, making Max swear on one thing.

'I will wipe that smirk off his face.' He began to run again while gritting his teeth. It was the first time he was looked down on by an opponent like that.

Passing through the school, Max climbed a house and stood on its roof. He watched the minimap closely without looking back. There would be chaos in the school soon, as the duo earlier would confront Puppeteer. Maybe Skiki would also join, but he wasn't sure about that.

The important point was…

'This is my opportunity to get the target.'

A few seconds later, the red dot from the school disappeared and reappeared in a different direction. Based on the minimap, the target appeared in…

"Midnight Club!"

It was close to Max's location. He immediately activated his shoes and jumped high, landing on the street on the East. He ran fast and arrived at the Midnight Club just 20 seconds later. There was no sign of other thieves yet.

They probably waited around the school to snatch the target or were on the run now. Both weren't important, it was the risk that Max could take.

Locating the target with the minimap was pretty easy. He found it on the first floor of the Midnight Club. The target was in the form of a card with a red highlight.

"They changed it to something easy to hold, huh? Good job, devs."

Having a jacket was a good decision. He hid the card in the inner pocket.

At that time, he heard the door opening. Someone had broken in.

Blending with the NPCs on the first floor, Max secretly went to the second floor and exited through the window. He hung on the ledge and dropped to the ground safely before running toward the school. However, it wasn't smooth sailing.

"Got you!"

Snikki jumped from the shadow of a building and shot him. The energy bullet flew right to his face, and he dodged it by twisting his body. At the same time, he shot back, and the bullet hit his opponent, paralyzing him for 3 seconds.

"Try quieter next time," Max said as he passed through Snikki and went toward the small street between houses in the residential area.

As long as Puppeteer didn't hinder him, he would be able to score a point. He hoped his hardest opponent would get the same strategy as him from before, waiting near the school for the next target to appear.

But, that didn't happen. The opponent was an experienced player. Instead of waiting, he liked to hunt.

Just as Max ran into the alleyway, he suddenly stopped because he heard the wind split. He followed his instinct and jumped back. Just as he did that, an energy bullet hit the ground from the sky where he stood earlier.

Looking up, he saw a shadow standing on a roof. The muzzler of a tranquilizing gun was pointed at him.

"Puppeteer…" He growled.
