Grinding EXP From Fireball Skill-Chapter 108: Subdue
CRUNCH! CRUNCH! CRUNCH!
The Golden Anteater was chomping down on the Iron-Eating Ants.
Li Wei estimated the Golden Anteater’s approximate level based on its size.
Tier Two Basic Level.
An idea struck him. This was the perfect opportunity to have his Shadow Attendant control the Golden Anteater and make it his new Summoned Beast.
The Golden Anteater was the natural predator of the Iron-Eating Ants.
It would also play an important role in the subsequent exploration of the cave and the search for Secret Silver Ore.
Li Wei whispered, "Shadow Attendant, prepare for battle."
The Shadow Attendant silently approached the Golden Anteater.
The Golden Anteater stopped eating and glanced around, seeming to sense a hint of danger.
Suddenly, several Shadow Tentacles shot out from the darkness, wrapping around the Golden Anteater and pinning it in place. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
"HISS!"
The Golden Anteater roared and struggled violently, trying to break free from the Shadow Tentacles’ grip.
Li Wei could feel the Shadow Tentacles rapidly breaking apart.
He quickened his pace.
The Shadow Attendant rushed toward the Golden Anteater.
"Shadow Claw!"
A black light flashed.
Sparks flew from the Golden Anteater’s body.
The Shadow Element attack left three bloody wounds on its body.
Injured, the Golden Anteater focused all its attention on the Shadow Attendant.
WHOOSH!
A streak of crimson flashed past.
The Golden Anteater’s tongue struck the Shadow Attendant with astonishing speed.
BAM! CRACK!
The Shadow Attendant was sent flying back more than ten meters, slamming into the cave wall.
A layer of its Invisible Armor shattered.
Seeing this, Li Wei realized the Golden Anteater before him had already reached the Tier Two Middle Level.
WHOOSH!
A flicker of fire appeared, its light rapidly spreading through the cavern and illuminating the dim space.
Li Wei finally got a clear look at the Golden Anteater.
The Golden Anteater was covered in bright yellow metallic scales, with coarse hair at its joints.
Its mouth was a meter long.
Its eyes were covered by hair and couldn’t be seen clearly; they didn’t seem to be open.
Sensing the threat from the Fireball, the Golden Anteater spun around and whipped its tongue at Li Wei like a lash.
WHOOSH!
The Shadow Attendant rushed over to block the tongue-whip and was sent flying once again.
The Fireball in Li Wei’s hand had already turned orange.
He threw the Fireball.
The Golden Anteater’s tongue was incredibly agile, dancing rapidly and creating several afterimages in the air.
WHOOSH! WHOOSH! WHOOSH!
It wanted to whip the Fireball into oblivion.
With a thought from Li Wei, the Fireball shot upward.
’Object Control Skill!’
BAM!
A large boulder glowed with blue light, slid sideways, and smashed into the Golden Anteater, interrupting its attack.
WHOOSH!
The Fireball seized the opportunity to dive down.
At the moment of crisis, the Golden Anteater opened its mouth and spat out a stream of green, corrosive slime.
PFFT!
The Fireball burned the slime, and a horrendous stench filled the cave.
BOOM!
The Fireball was struck and detonated prematurely.
The shockwave spread out rapidly, shaking the cave.
Li Wei glanced worriedly at the ceiling, afraid the cave would collapse.
"Cough! Cough! Cough!"
’It’s poisonous!’
Li Wei backed away repeatedly, exiting the cave.
"Shadow Attendant, you go!"
The Shadow Attendant charged into the gas-filled cave.
WHOOSH! WHOOSH! WHOOSH! BANG! BANG! BANG!
The sounds of a fight came from inside the cave, but after a short while, they died down.
SHUFFLE! SHUFFLE! SHUFFLE!
The sound of footsteps approached, and the Golden Anteater emerged from the darkness of the cave, drawing near to Li Wei.
When Li Wei saw that the Golden Anteater wasn’t attacking, he knew the Shadow Attendant had taken control of its body.
"Shadow Attendant," Li Wei called out.
The Golden Anteater nodded.
A smile spread across his face. ’I did it.’
He checked the Golden Anteater’s injuries and found a clear blast wound on its side. It was charred black, and most of its metallic scales had been shattered.
Although the Fireball hadn’t scored a direct hit, the force of the explosion had still caused considerable damage.
In the subsequent fight, the Shadow Attendant had struck while the iron was hot, successfully seizing control.
Li Wei opened his cloak and took out a bottle of Life Recovery Potion, pouring it onto the Golden Anteater’s wound.
Realizing one bottle wasn’t enough, he ended up using three before the Golden Anteater’s wound finally began to heal.
The small bottles of Life Recovery Potion were all benefits from the last battle he’d participated in.
He didn’t feel bad about using them on the Golden Anteater.
After waiting for about ten minutes, the Golden Anteater’s injuries had mostly recovered.
The Shadow Attendant had the Golden Anteater devour metal and Iron-Eating Ants to regrow its metallic scales.
The metallic scales were the Golden Anteater’s primary defense against the Iron-Eating Ants.
CRUNCH! CRUNCH! CRUNCH!
While the Golden Anteater ate, Li Wei checked on the two dead men.
All the metal on their bodies had been eaten by the Golden Anteater.
Some non-metallic objects remained.
Earlier, he had seen the large pack the Knight was carrying left on the ground.
Li Wei opened the large pack and found a pile of fragrant plant branches and leaves inside.
’Hm? What’s this?’
Li Wei picked up a branch and walked toward the Golden Anteater.
"Shadow Attendant, bring me an Iron-Eating Ant."
The long, slender tongue extended and dropped off an injured Iron-Eating Ant.
Li Wei tossed the branch next to the Iron-Eating Ant.
The Iron-Eating Ant immediately dragged its injured body away from it.
’So that’s it. This plant can repel Iron-Eating Ants?’
’I wonder what kind of plant it is.’
Li Wei took a few leaves and put them in his pocket, then had the Shadow Attendant shoulder the large pack in case it was needed.
"Let’s go. We’ll take a look inside."
The Shadow Attendant controlled the Golden Anteater to lead the way, heading toward the area where the Iron-Eating Ants were rampant.
CRUNCH! CRUNCH! CRUNCH!
It ate as it walked.
The Golden Anteater’s metallic scales grew back quickly.
The Golden Anteater’s three abilities were its metallic scales, tough tongue, and Super Acid Liquid.
Relying on these three abilities, the Golden Anteater was considered a powerhouse among Magic Beasts of the same level.
As they advanced in the direction the Iron-Eating Ants came from, they encountered more and more of them.
Further in, the ground was uneven, riddled with holes gnawed out by the Iron-Eating Ants.
The slightest misstep could send you face-planting into the dirt.
BAM! BAM! BAM!
The faint sounds of a battle came from ahead.
Li Wei’s heart stirred. ’We must be close to the depths of the cave.’
The previous night, while resting in the camp, Li Wei had overheard others talking and gotten a general idea of the situation in the underground mine.
Initially, Beastman Miners were ordered to open a new mineshaft.
As they dug downward, they discovered numerous empty caverns.
They were all tunnels left behind after Iron-Eating Ants had devoured the Flowing Silver Stone.
Eventually, the Beastman Miners discovered an immense cavern deep underground.
Inside the cavern were vast quantities of Flowing Silver Stone and a massive number of Iron-Eating Ants.
The battered Beastman Miners who fled managed to bring out a piece of ore.
After it was appraised, it was discovered to be rare and precious Secret Silver Ore.
Reaching the cavern where the Beastman Miners had found the swarm of Iron-Eating Ants meant they were close to the location of the Secret Silver Ore.
Li Wei was almost at the threshold.
The Golden Anteater led the way, with Li Wei following behind.
The sounds from the cave ahead grew louder and louder.
Suddenly, the surroundings brightened. Li Wei found himself on a ledge, five or six meters above the ground.
Below was a large expanse of silvery-white Flowing Silver Stone.
Flowing Silver Stone was not a solid, but a liquid metal.
But it wasn’t mercury.
Flowing Silver Stone was a naturally occurring alloy with a complex composition.
Due to its high toxicity, it was often used to set traps.
Some Magic Traps could even vaporize the flowing silver into a mist, silently poisoning any intruders who entered the trap.
Many high-ranking nobles and officials liked to use Flowing Silver Stone to create river-like traps encircling their tombs after death.
