Grinding EXP From Fireball Skill-Chapter 66: Magic Net
After destroying the Tier Two Nightmare Core, Li Wei rested in the room for a while.
Once he had recovered, he left the safe house once again.
WHOOSH! WHOOSH! WHOOSH!
The moment he stepped outside, several streaks of light shot past his eyes.
Li Wei focused his gaze and saw that they were arrows.
One arrow missed, but the rest all struck a Nightmare Beastman at the other end of the street.
He turned his head toward the direction the arrows came from and saw the figures of Lanya and Lisa.
Li Wei was a little surprised. He hadn’t expected them to still be alive in the dream world.
The dream version of Cold Sand City was crawling with Tier One and Tier Two Nightmares.
He was a bit amazed that they had managed to survive this long with their level of strength.
After some thought, Li Wei decided not to interfere with their dream.
Experiencing a Nightmare had its pros and cons.
The downside, naturally, was having a nightmare, which would leave one feeling mentally drained the next day.
An ordinary person would think this fatigue was from a bad night’s sleep, but it was actually because a portion of their power had been devoured by the Nightmare.
As for the upside, the subconscious would retain the combat experience gained in the dream.
After waking, an ordinary person would forget the specific events that occurred in the dream.
But when they encountered a similar situation, they would feel a strange sense of repetition or familiarity.
In daily life, this manifested as thoughts like, ’I feel like I’ve been here before,’ ’I’ve done this before,’ or ’I’ve seen this person before...’
In combat, it manifested as a subconscious reaction when facing an enemy.
Ever since obtaining the Great Dream Traveling Skill, Li Wei’s combat experience had skyrocketed.
He didn’t forget his dreams, so the combat experience he gained in them was never lost.
He didn’t need to rely on flashes of inspiration or subconscious reactions.
As Li Wei walked down the road, he would kill any lone Nightmares he encountered with the Small Fireball Technique.
His Great Success Small Fireball Technique, with double the power, was enough of a threat to Tier One Low and Middle Level Nightmares.
He only needed to use the Fireball Skill or a Charged Small Fireball Technique to deal with Tier One High Level Nightmares.
’A Nightmare’s true form is relatively fragile. It’s one of the weaker monsters of its tier.’
’In reality, Nightmares are hard to deal with because they possess the bodies of living creatures, gaining the power of their hosts.’
’In the dream world, while Nightmares lose their ability to possess bodies, they gain a terrifying regenerative ability.’
’Each has its own strengths!’
Li Wei hunted Nightmares while contemplating and summarizing his experiences.
’Mage Vince?’
Li Wei looked up and saw a familiar figure.
Vince was locked in a fierce battle with two Nightmare Beastmen.
Both Nightmare Beastmen were Tier One High Level Nightmares.
Vince was struggling to fight them.
"Vine Entanglement!"
The ground shattered, and a mass of vines grew out to entangle the Nightmare Beastmen.
The Nightmare Beastmen swung their weapons, hacking at the vines and breaking free from their restraints.
Vince seized the opportunity to cast an Attack Magic.
"Sharp Thorn!"
A huge, thick Thorny Python erupted from the ground, coiling around the two Nightmare Beastmen and squeezing tight.
CRACK! CRACK! CRACK!
The Armor on the Nightmare Beastmen was crushed by the immense force, bursting into a gray mist and dispersing.
WHOOSH! WHOOSH! WHOOSH!
The gray mist dispersed, slipped through the gaps in the Thorny Python’s body, and reformed into the shape of Beastmen right beside Vince.
In Vince’s eyes, after the two Beastmen were killed, he turned his head only to suddenly see two more standing behind him.
The shock sent a cold sweat running down his back.
Ordinary people couldn’t see the gray mist on the Nightmares.
BOOM!
A Nightmare Beastman’s weapon smashed against Vince’s Magic Shield.
Vince snapped back to reality and quickly retreated to create distance, trying to cast a spell to control the two Beastmen.
BAM!
A Wolf Fang Club slammed into the Magic Shield, knocking Vince off balance and forcibly interrupting the spell in his hands.
Pinned down by the Nightmare Beastmen, Vince was taking a constant beating with no way to fight back.
He couldn’t even create any distance.
The Nightmare Beastmen were much faster than him.
Li Wei stood to the side, watching this scene with a deep frown.
He contemplated how he would counterattack in such a situation.
This was a Mage’s weak point: being tied up by melee enemies, unable to even cast a complete spell.
CRASH!
Vince tore open a Magic Scroll, and a frigid wind swept out, freezing the two Nightmare Beastmen around him into blocks of ice.
’Alright, using Magic Items is a good option.’
Vince finally had a chance to cast a complete spell.
"Sharp Thorn!"
The Thorny Python crushed the two frozen Beastmen, but the gray mist scattered and reformed again a short distance away.
Li Wei shook his head. Vince’s Grass Magic was completely countered by the Nightmares.
It couldn’t restrain them, nor could it kill them.
Unable to watch any longer, he took action, launching a Charged Fireball.
KABOOM!
A massive flame engulfed Vince and the two Beastmen. All three vanished, leaving a large crater in their place.
Li Wei picked up Vince’s Memory Fragment and destroyed the two Nightmare Cores.
His Invisibility faded. He walked down the road, absorbing the memories from the Memory Fragment in his hand.
’Huh? So this is how the Magic Net works?’
He failed to obtain any Magic Models from Vince’s memories, because Ring Mages’ mastery of Magic Models was always at the lowest level—just enough to be usable.
Very few Ring Mages would spend time practicing magic to master more proficient Magic Models.
After all this time, Li Wei had more or less figured out the pattern.
The owner of a Magic Model had to have at least reached the Small Success Level in its cultivation for the Magic Model to appear completely in their memories.
Clearly, Vince hadn’t mastered any spell to the Small Success Level.
The power of his magic was also weaker than that of many traditional Mages.
Although he didn’t learn any new magic, he now understood the nature of the Magic Net and how to access it.
Li Wei felt he had gained a great deal.
The Magic Net relied on Magic Elements to exist. In theory, any area with Magic Elements was covered by the Magic Net.
However, the exchange of information on the Magic Net depended on the flow of Magic Elements.
Therefore, if the Magic Elements in a certain area were sealed off and couldn’t be exchanged with the outside, the Magic Net would be inaccessible.
After seeing Vince’s memories, Li Wei finally understood that the conflict between Ring Mages and traditional Mages wasn’t as great as he had imagined.
Or rather, the Magic Goddess did not distinguish between traditional Mages and Ring Mages.
All Mages could access the Magic Net.
Ring Mages could, and so could traditional Mages.
Furthermore, the boundary between the two was drawn by the use of the Magic Net’s power.
Traditional Mages could only transmit information through the Magic Net; they couldn’t borrow its power for casting.
After pledging faith to the Magic Goddess, Ring Mages could obtain higher-level access to the Magic Net, with access levels corresponding to the casting permissions for each tier of Ring Mage.
A Ring Mage Apprentice could only unlock Tier Zero casting permissions, allowing them to cast only Tier Zero Magic through the Magic Net.
A Tier One Ring Mage could only unlock Tier One casting permissions, allowing them to cast Tier One Magic through the Magic Net.
And so on.
In the Magic Net system, the power of a Mage at each tier was fixed and could not be surpassed.
This was unlike traditional Mages, where as long as they could learn it, an Apprentice Mage could cast Tier One Magic, and a Tier One Mage could potentially cast a Tier Two Spell.
However, the very threshold of learning magic was a barrier that stumped countless people.
That was why so many people chose to become Ring Mages.
From Vince’s memories, Li Wei learned how to enter the Magic Net.
At the same time, he also learned something else.
The Mage Tower of Maple City had actually always known the method to enter the Magic Net and become a Ring Mage.
Allen had told Vince that he would occasionally chat with Marina Mage on the Magic Net.
Before coming to challenge the Maple City Mage Tower, he had also sent a challenge letter to Martin through the Magic Net, but Martin never responded to his message.
El never used the Magic Net because he firmly believed it would bring negative consequences.
