Guide To Train My Beast Husbands-Chapter 237: River Guardian (II)
Ruan Zeqiu turned to look at the priest beside him. He said in a soft voice, "What are they arguing about?" He knew that the two monsters were arguing about something, but what, he had no idea about that. He pursed his lips and asked Yuan Ni, "You can understand their words, can’t you?"
He knew that when the priests or the priestesses were being taught, they were also taught the language of the beasts. In fact, they had inherent skills and simply needed to learn how to use them. Since this mer could understand what these two beasts were saying, he might as well use some of his skills and translate what they were saying to them. Since he had proven nothing but useless till now.
"Well, I can indeed understand what they are saying —but you are not going to like it."
"Are they arguing about the territory...?"
"...Yes?"
"Oh come on, you can do better than that," snapped Ruan Zeqiu. He then paused and narrowed his eyes. "It’s about my sister. Isn’t it?" He just had a feeling that it was about his sister.
"...No."
"It’s about my sister. They are fighting over my sister, aren’t they?"
Yuan Ni hesitated for a while before nodding. "Ah, well, yes."
Ruan Chanchan: "..."
Standing waist-deep in the water, she was completely done with their conversation. She pointed at herself and then said to the two mers, "You know that I can hear you two talking about how these two beasts think that I am their chew toy. You two might as well tell me that they’re taking me as their chew toy, you know?"
Her voice was a bit loud, and the river guardian turned to look at her. He growled.
The python slammed its tail down, right onto the ground. He looked like he was suffering from injustice as he turned his head to one side, looking aggrieved; he looked like that one kid whose favourite toy was snatched by the school bully.
Ruan Chanchan blinked her eyes and shouted at the thing. "Hey! Don’t tell me that you are not even going to fight for me? Am I not worth fighting for?"
Xiao Xi: "..." 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
Are you serious? Darling, is this the time for worrying about your worth?
Ruan Chanchan: "..." Oh, I ended up going astray.
The guardian roared once again, and Ruan Chanchan brought her hands to her ears. Her eyes squinted as she raised her head and looked at the beast that was growling at her. "I should have dragged Xie Daiyu with me." She then turned to look at Xiao Xi and said to him, "Can’t you do anything?"
"What do you want me to do at this point? Who asked you to come here without preparations?" Xiao Xi didn’t hold back and scolded Ruan Chanchan right away.
The guardian lunged while the two of them were quarrelling.
But he didn’t lunge at her. Instead, he lunged at the python. Even though the python was not fighting back with the guardian, he was still furious at the audacity of the python for crossing into his territory.
The guardian clashed with the python, and the impact was catastrophic.
Water surged violently as the guardian rammed into the python, who recoiled. Its teeth snapped, and the python, who realised that this guardian was not going to leave him alone, also retaliated. It wrapped its body around the body of the guardian. Trees started to snap, and rocks started to shatter. The ground shook so hard that Ruan Zeqiu had to unsheathe his claws and dig them into the ground. Only then was he able to stay upright and wasn’t blown back by the gust of wind that flew past them.
Yuan Ni stared, awestruck. "A guardian is always very territorial about his or her territory. It’s no surprise that he attacked the python..."
Ruan Zeqiu dragged his gaze away from the destruction that was happening in front of them. He then turned and looked down at the slope where his sister was supposed to be standing.
"Where is my sister?"
He turned his gaze left and then right, but when he couldn’t see his sister anymore, he exclaimed, "Where is she? I cannot see her."
"Right here!" Ruan Chanchan shouted. As her voice echoed through the crumbling of the rocks, Ruan Zeqiu turned to look at her. His poor sister was clinging to the boulder as waves started to slam against her body. "Don’t worry. I am fine. I think ...I am..." she coughed and spat a small fish that slid right into her mouth. She looked at the thing that flew out of her mouth and turned to look at her brother. "But it won’t be for long. Get me out of here before I go inside the mouth of some beast just like this... and that thing won’t even spit me out."
The river guardian thrashed his tail, and it swept dangerously close to her.
She screamed. "HEY! THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE. YOU ARE GETTING IN MY PERSONAL SPACE HERE."
The river guardian froze and turned to look at Ruan Chanchan with a hint of anger in his massive eyes.
Ruan Chanchan stared at the thing back. She raised her hand and said to him, "I know that you are angry that we disrupted the flow of your river. But aren’t you being a bit too conceited and narrow-minded? I mean, think about it carefully. If you allow this stream to flow down, then you will not only get praised for your mercy, but you will also be worshipped. Think about it. If the lives of those in the beast tribe get better, then you will certainly be worshipped by them. I will even erect a monument in honour of you."
The guardian stared at her.
The python also turned to look at her with a blaming look, as if saying that if she had said those words earlier, she could have saved him all those bites that he received due to her delay.
