Ruan Chanchan was shocked. She looked at the mer who was staring at her with a simple and honest look and stammered, "You...You are going to sleep here?" Her eyes were wide with shock as she looked at the mer in front of her. She never once thought that she was going to live with Su Mo. Who in the world came up with this shocking suggestion? They better not let her find it out!

"The elders said that since I have chosen to be your slave, then I need to follow you and live with you," replied Su Mo with a frown. He was obviously unwilling, but his family thought that this was a good opportunity for them to climb higher. Thus, when he refused, they dragged him and beat him up until he agreed to follow Ruan Chanchan. Even when he refused to sleep with Ruan Chanchan in her cave, Su Mo knew that there was no point. His family were full of selfish people and wouldn’t listen to a thing that he had to say as long as they knew that they were going to benefit from something.

Ruan Chanchan’s lips twitched. She had a very good idea of why the elders had arranged for this mer to live with her. Given that they had found out that she spent the night with Xie Daiyu, it was not a surprise that they sent this mer to her cave; most probably, they wanted to create chaos in her life.

She wanted to send Su Mo out, but looking at his appearance, she knew that the mer himself didn’t want to follow her, but he was sent here against his will. Oh well, since the bed was already made, it would not be nice of her to drive this mer out. If word got out, then she was worried that Su Mo would be ostracised and blamed by the tribe.

She sighed and asked, "Are you okay with it?"

"It doesn’t matter whether I am okay with it or not," replied Su Mo, which clearly meant that the mer was not willing to stay with her, but he had no other choice but to stay with Ruan Chanchan.

"Alright then, you can stay." Ruan Chanchan also understood his predicament. She allowed the mer to stay in her cave.

"I will try my best to serve you, holy one," Su Mo promised, with a smile on his lips. Maybe he didn’t even notice it, but his fox tail appeared out of nowhere and started to wag right behind him.

Ruan Chanchan watched the little fox’s actions and chuckled. She didn’t say anything and started the fire to cook. "Then I will be looking forward to it."

As Ruan Chanchan pulled the stone pot to boil the water, Su Mo abandoned his haystack and rushed to where she was standing. He took the pot from her and then placed it on the fire that Ruan Chanchan had ignited and poured water into it. Ruan Chanchan watched the mer working hard and sat down on the small flat stone that Ruan Zeqiu had brought for her from somewhere.

She watched the mer busying around, and her mind inadvertently went to the reservoir. She recalled the many beasts that were bathing in the water of the river, and an awkward expression came on her face. It seemed like she had to come up with a means to get her hands on some kind of water filter from the supermarket. Or else they would be drinking the bathing water of the beasts.

When she was on earth, she had read a lot of books on survival. She had read a lot of information on how to make a filter; she would first use her knowledge to make a makeshift and temporary filter, and then use the filter bought from the supermarket. Ruan Chanchan thought that it was a perfect plan. With that thought in her head, she turned on her feet to grab some rice from the vat. While Ruan Chanchan was making the rice, Su Mo was watching. He had heard all about the land that was going to be used as a rice paddy field and asked, "Holy One, do you think that we can grow rice?"

As she spoke, she started working on the mushroom soup. She also turned her attention to the small fish that looked small but clearly had brittle teeth and said to Su Mo, "Go and clean them up. You know how to clean them, right?"

Su Mo nodded and walked over to the vat, where he took out a few fish and went outside to clean them. Just as he walked out, Ruan Chanchan, who was smiling, turned sombre. She wondered where Xie Daiyu went.
