Chapter 41: The Two Core Stages, Amplification And Enhancement

Mason finally found the classroom Principal Selena had chosen just for him. He took a deep and quiet breath, then stepped inside.

At once, the chatter, the noisy exchange within the class faded, and dozens of eyes turned toward the door. Their gazes met his, and one thing was for certain, they didn’t want him here.

’What a lovely welcoming gaze.’ He closed the doors behind him, then walked down the class to the empty seat in front.

"Hey." A tall guy with messy blond hair and a solid, muscular build stepped forward and stopped Mason.

He slammed his hand on the nearest table, with a loud thud. His shadow fell over Mason as he stared down at him, clearly trying to make a point by showing him how inferior he was.

"Judging by your looks." He waved his hand in front of his nose, as if brushing away a bad smell. "And the way you smell, you’re from the lower sector. What the fuck is a peasant like you doing in the battle class?"

The others in the class laughed, but it didn’t affect Mason at all. He just stood there, staring at him with a nonchalant expression. This was one of the reasons he didn’t want to enroll in the spirit Caster’s Academy.

It was filled with nothing but spoiled brats.

Mason sighed, then stared him straight in the eye. "Principal Selena put me here, now get out of my face."

The class went silent for a while, then everyone burst into laughter, including the tall guy.

"Can you believe the mouth on this guy?" One of his classmates said.

"Hey street rat." The tall guy’s demeanor changed instantly, and his eyes widened in anger. While others laughed, he felt completely insulted that a lower sector peasant had the audacity to tell him to get out of his face. "What the fuck did you just say?"

Mason stared at him for a moment, then an idea popped into his head.

’System, you said I can see the bio-data, interests and kinks of my target right? And considering my targets are all women, does the same apply to men?’

[Yes master, although what you can see is restricted. For men, you’ll only be able to see their bio-data.]

’Good enough for me.’

[Bloodline Ability "Demon’s king eye’ has been activated]

Mason’s eyes flashed with a faint crimson glow, and for a moment, it startled the blonde guy.

[Bio-data]

[Name: Christopher Arnold]

[Age: 17]

[Rank: B]

[Spiritual Energy level: 5]

[Spiritual Type: Elemental Ability, Fire]

’A level 5 flame spiritual caster? His stats are terrible, I can handle him even without using my spiritual powers. That means, his opinions don’t mean anything.’

"Apologize, now." The blonde guy demanded, but Mason only sighed, then sat down on the empty seat without saying a single word.

"Tsk, you bastard!" The blonde guy raised his fist, ready to strike, but the sound of the door creaking open immediately stopped him in his tracks.

"That’s enough." A loud voice echoed through the classroom, clear and commanding, and everywhere became silent.

A man walked in through the door, and all the way to his table before dropping his suitcase. "Return to your seat."

Christopher gritted his teeth, then dropped his hand before walking back to his seat. "This is over yet street brat."

"My name is Elias Thorne and I am the professor in charge of the battle class, and now that we’re all here, we can begin the first topic of the semester. Spirit-Techniques."

"Spirit-Techniques?" The class murmured.

"That’s right, By now some of you should have grasped a concept of it." His attention turned to members of the class who actually fought in the second stage of the exams.

"Spirit-Techniques as the name suggests, are abilities created to combat and kill magical beasts, most especially Spirit-Beasts. But there are two things to consider when developing these techniques." He began.

He raised two fingers in the air.

"The two principles of creating a good Spirit-Technique, Amplification and Enhancement."

"W-wait professor Elias, we don’t understand what you’re talking about. Amplification and Enhancement?" The students murmurs only increased.

Elias sighed.

"That’s right, before we move further I suppose I should mention that there’s lot more to Spiritual energy than just Spirit-Techniques. For the first part of this topic, we’ll be focusing on the Spirit-Core."

"On the Spirit-Core? What is that?"

"The Spirit Core, is the vessel of our spiritual energy. Think of it as a container that houses our spiritual energy. The amount of spiritual energy possess is highly dependent on their spirit core."

Elias stepped forward.

"In truth, The agents in charge of the awakening ceremony only revealed a portion about this, for instance Spiritual-Energy doesn’t keep our cores alive. It is the energy produced by our cores when they are activated."

"What? What’s that supposed to mean?"

".... Spirit-Cores are only a gift when they are dormant our bodies, the moment the cores are activated and are unstable, the excess energy will kill you."

"What!?"

"Kill us!?"

"If you knew the awakening process had such risks why did you allow us to go take it without informing us!?" They all vented their frustrations.

They felt betrayed, any wrong move, any wrong assumptions could have led to their deaths, but in the end, if this information was revealed to them, they would all back out. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

"However, the Orb Of Awakening was designed specifically by several S-rank casters over the years to stabilize this cores during the activation ceremony, that is the orb’s true goal."

The moment he spoke, they all kept quiet, realizing their frustrations were all for nothing.

"Now then, let’s get back to the lesson." Stretching out his right palm, he concentrated his essence into a single point in his palm.

An immense pressure shook the grounds of the halls, the participants could all feel the vibrations flowing through the ground, immediately a blue aura emanated from his palm, escaping it like a cloud of smoke.

"W-whoa." They all marveled at the release of his essence, it was fluid and mistful like gas.

"I have an A-tier Spirit-Core — the Elementalist Spirit-Core, as a result my Spirit-Energy takes on the color scheme of my core." He said, cancelling the concentration of his Spirit-Energy.

"Professor, the Elementalist Spirit-Core is argued to be a C-tier rank, does that mean you are a C-rank Spirit Caster?" Christopher asked, especially since he fell under the Elementalist Spirit-Core.

"No, my rank does not matter to you now, but this much I can say. Ranks and tiers are two different things, right now I believe the highest ranked Spirit Caster here is A-rank. However, in terms of your cores, you all are on equal footing. Prior to your awakening, your Spirit-Energy is what determines your rank as a caster at the start, and right now you all possess a C-tier Spirit-Core."

Basically, what Elias said meant one thing. Newly awakened A-ranked Spirit Casters are casters whose quantity of Spirit-Energy surpasses that of the rest, but the same couldn’t be said for their Spirit-Core because it was still underdeveloped.

"Even a C-rank Spirit Caster with his Spirit-Core fully developed will defeat an inexperienced and underdeveloped core of an A-rank caster in battle. So right now, despite the difference in Spirit-Energy, you’re all on equal footing in terms of cores."

This came as good news to Mason, if that was the case, that means his Spirit-Energy was just underdeveloped.

"Strengthening the Spirit-Core is much like muscle building, what happens when you try to build muscle? It tears down but once it repairs itself it becomes even bigger and stronger. The same is applicable for Spirit-Core, by working your Spirit-Core to it’s absolute limits, you give it room to grow. That is what we call, the amplification stage."

The students listened with rapt attention, every information was vital and every step vital.

"And enhancement, concentrating this expanded energy into a single point to create your ultimate technique. That is the main aim of this first part, to learn the basics of combat as a spirit caster, you must create at least two Spirit-Techniques."

It didn’t sound that hard at first, but creating Spirit-Techniques was much more than tossing Spirit-Energy around.

"Now that you’ve been briefed, we will immediately commence with the second part of the this selection. Follow me."

There were no questions, not even a whispered comment. Everything Elias had said left them puzzled and speechless.

Spiritual techniques, spirit cores, these were things most of them had ever heard of before. The ideas felt strange, distant, and completely outside their world, leaving the students stunned into silence as they tried to make sense of it all.

Then they followed him into a large hall.

It was the combat hall, it was the place where Spirit Casters trained, clashed, and pushed their powers to the limit. And just for today, it was where Elias planned to carry out the first topic of the battle class.

"Show me what you can do."
