Chapter 154: Chapter 154 Guns, Curves, and a Kill Shot

The three men looked at each other and grinned, clearly convinced they’d won. The one who’d been doing the talking smirked, voice dripping with mock innocence. "So, ladies, how exactly do you plan on showing your... sincerity?"

His smug gaze shamelessly roamed across Emily’s stunning face. Her looks could take a man’s breath away, but instead of anger, Emily smiled faintly. She raised both hands, slowly tracing downward over her chest.

Their eyes lit up like dogs spotting meat. The talkative man even stepped forward, breathing quickening, clearly misreading her move.

Emily’s hands slid past her waist, fingers pausing at her belt. He thought she was about to take off her pants - his jaw tensed with excitement.

He never saw it coming.

Her hand dipped lower, down her thigh, stopping at a holster. By the time his eyes caught up, there was a gun in her grip. Black muzzle dead center on his forehead.

All three men froze.

"H-Hey... what are you doing?!"

They hadn’t seen this coming. Letting Philip leave made them drop their guard. They’d assumed these women had no fight left. That they’d submit.

Fools.

"What am I doing?" Emily’s voice turned cold. "I’m telling you to get your damn hands where I can see them. Out of the truck. Now!"

"You - You’ll kill us?! If you dare touch us, the Ridgebreak Battalion will burn you all down!"

"Spare me the threats," she growled. "MOVE!"

She stepped forward. The muzzle of her pistol kissed the man’s forehead. He stank of sweat and fear. That was enough. She had their answer from the start.

They forced the three men out. By then, Sophia had already rallied most of the Ice Regiment. Emily, Charlotte, and Liana, each holding a pistol, pressed them up before the rest of the women.

Emily kicked the one in front of her in the back of the knee - he grunted and dropped to the ground. Charlotte and Liana did the same.

Three men, heads covered, knees in the dirt, facing a line of stone-faced women.

Emily chambered a round, then pressed the barrel to the man’s skull. Her voice was like ice. "Got any last words?"

"You - " That was all he managed.

Bang.

Her finger squeezed the trigger, short and final. His body thudded down, limp. A beat later, two more shots rang out - Liana and Charlotte’s.

Three corpses, three bleeding holes at the back of their heads.

End of story. Isabel led a small team to clear the bodies. Meanwhile, Sophia walked up to Emily and the core members, and the four of them huddled to discuss quietly for a moment. Then Emily started giving orders.

"Chloe, go find Evan now. Tell him and his people to spread the word fast - say the Ice Regiment is opening up the granary. Starting today, anyone who comes to Ashbrook Town gets five pounds of grain daily, per person, no charge."

Five pounds a day when a person barely eats half a pound - this was bound to cause a stir.

"Sophia, take 200 people and 200 units of Metal Crystal and go ambush the Ridgebreak Battalion like we said, but be careful. Time the Crystals right - fight no more than 50 minutes, save 10 minutes to pull out. No casualties."

"I’ve been waiting for this," Sophia replied with a sharp nod. She turned and led her team out immediately.

"Caroline, take a team and two Humvee trucks. Head toward Springvale City and grab one of Cliff’s scouts. Make sure he sends a message to Cliff - tell him Ridgebreak is about to hit our underground granary, we can’t hold the line. If his men help, we’ll surrender to the Seventh Vanguard."

"Understood! Team 17, Squad One, setting off!" 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

Caroline might not be Awakened, but as a former special forces soldier, she knew how to handle combat with precision.

Just then, Sarah and Taylor came rushing through the gate.

"Emily, Charlotte, Sophia - "

"They’re back!" Sarah yelled. "Emma and Abigail just got in - they say Cliff’s troops are on the move!"

Cliff’s forces?

Everyone froze - including Sophia, who was halfway out the gate. She turned around and pulled her troops back into the underground granary, hurrying toward Emily and the others.

"What happened? What’s Cliff’s army doing here? Where are they now?" she asked, her tone tight.

If Baxter’s men were arriving now, the ambush plan against Ridgebreak might be a trap instead - for themselves.

Still out of breath, Emma and Abigail dashed up to them.

"Emily, we saw Cliff’s army - they’re moving this way, fast!" Emma panted, struggling to catch her breath.

Emily stepped forward. "Where exactly are they? And where’s your unit?"

"Our team’s still behind us," Abigail said quickly. "Me and Emma ran ahead, didn’t want to waste time. No danger to them. Cliff’s troops will reach Ashbrook in three hours, tops."

Emma and Abigail’s squad had been stationed halfway up the mountain. They patrolled toward Springvale daily. Early this morning, Abigail spotted Cliff’s main force and rushed back.

"How many?" Sophia asked. "Are they here to fight, or just trade for grain?"

"We didn’t get an exact count, but definitely not here for grain," Emma replied, her voice firm. "We saw troop carriers, tanks, trucks loaded with mortars. They’re here to fight."

Abigail added, thinking back, "At least... at least twenty thousand."

Twenty thousand? What were they up to? Worried Ridgebreak would wipe them out first, leaving nothing for them?

The women fell silent for a second. Then Emily raised her voice, "Caroline, cancel your mission."

They didn’t need to fake surrender anymore. Cliff was clearly here to take control by force.

Now the question was - how to make Cliff’s army clash with Ridgebreak first. That was the key.
