Chapter 210: Chapter 210 He Leads, They Obey - or Get Out

All the women in the unit were riding high on adrenaline - except Megan’s team. Their nerves were shot cold.

They were the scouts. The Ridgehaven District had already been cleared out by the patrol squads, but just as Sophia’s unit reached the entrance, a car suddenly rolled out.

It wasn’t Megan’s fault. That car probably slipped through right after her team had cleaned up and headed back to report.

But in the army, fault wasn’t up for debate. It happened on their watch, that’s all that mattered.

Sophia surged forward without hesitation. Megan’s team, red-eyed and anxious, chased right after her. There was no room for error today - if they failed, the blame would fall squarely on them. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

Less than a minute later, Sophia broke into the Ridgehaven Battalion headquarters. Four deputy commanders rushed in behind, rockets locked and resting on shoulders - aim, fire, no second guess.

"Megan, take five hundred on the left! Amber, you go right with another five hundred! Mia, artillery’s yours - if those tanks so much as growl, rain hell on ’em! Amelia, you’re with me, straight down the middle!"

Sophia’s voice rang out sharp and firm. The girls answered in unison, charging forward like thunder. A force of 1,500 stormed into the Ridgebreak Battalion’s stronghold, fierce and unstoppable.

That escaping car had set off early warnings, but it didn’t matter much in the end. Ridgebreak had already burned its best fighters in two failed offensives - nothing left but scraps.

Their numbers had shrunk to just over 30,000, Awakened barely cracking 10,000, and Crystal reserves laughable. Less than a hundred Metal Crystals left - that’s why they’d tried cozying up to the underground grain vault.

Ten minutes passed, then twenty. Battle cries and explosions shook the compound. Smoke and fire curled through the chaos. The harsh cries of women drowned in the screams of defeated men.

Sophia and her deputies all wore timepieces. At the 20-minute mark, resistance was crumbling hard. The Ridgebreak HQ was no longer holding strong.

"Mia, forget saving ammo - any building still standing, blast it to rubble!"

"Copy that!"

By the 40-minute mark, the mop-up was underway. The troops fanned out in tight squads, sweeping the area clean, using the smashed command center as their anchor point.

At the 50-minute mark, Sophia’s squad met up with Emily’s group. Just before sunrise, 5:40 a.m., both teams had cleared Ridgehaven City’s last escapees. Come 9:00 a.m., the units rolled back toward the underground grain vault.

The Ridgebreak Battalion - gone.

Brutal, fast, and clean.

While Sophia and Emily’s units were still en route back, Magnus stared up at the sky that morning and saw it - sunspots. A warning.

Instant tension locked up his entire body.

No delay. Magnus called Emily and a few others in for an emergency meeting. Hanford City was empty - Lana’s third battalion was sent to clear the area of infected.

No need for massacres there. Lana could handle it.

"Liana, starting today, get all our Ice Regiment supplies loaded into trucks."

"Loaded?" Liana looked puzzled.

"Yes, loaded," Magnus answered briskly. "Anything useful - on the trucks. Useless junk? Trash it. Any truck with space - fill it with rice, with grain!"

"Wait, Magnus, what’s going on? Are we leaving?" Charlotte asked, wide-eyed.

"It’s not leaving yet. It’s preparing to leave." Magnus said simply, then turned to Liana. "Liana, when you load the trucks, make the team double-check the inventory - everything, down to the last sack of rice and every bit of Earth Crystal we’ve got. I want a full list."

"I - I’ll handle it now," Liana replied quickly, hopping out of the truck.

Charlotte wasn’t ready to give up. "Magnus, what are you really planning? Can’t you just say it plainly?"

"Meteor storm’s coming. Three days from now. I saw the solar black spots this morning."

"Solar black spots? What even are those?" Charlotte frowned, sensing something serious.

"Means the meteor storm’s close." Magnus’s tone was clipped. "Go now. Get the Ashbrook Town unit to leave. There’re still trucks outside the granary. Have the team drive them in. I’m not sure if Ashbrook will be hit or not, but we’re not risking it."

With that, Magnus jumped down and started checking the modified vehicles himself - no leaving this to chance.

One by one, he inspected each truck. Chloe and Isabel tailed him. He glanced over.

"Chloe, take two squads, head out. Get all the wrecks off the roads to Ashbrook. Every single one. Push ’em off if they’re in the way. We need a clear path for a fleet of trucks."

"But Commander," Chloe hesitated. "The roads were cleared already."

"Not good enough. I want one hundred kilometers cleared front and back. Not a single abandoned car left lying around."

"Understood." Chloe nodded sharply and turned to gather her team.

"Isabel, go find Megan, Amber, and the other vice-commanders not on duty. Tell them I’ve got jobs for them."

Isabel shot him a worried look, then hurried off. Moments later, the vice-commanders stood behind Magnus while he was still tinkering under truck hoods, checking fuel, tires - everything.

Seeing they’d arrived, Magnus leapt down from one of the cargo trucks and barked out instructions.

"Amelia, Megan, Amber, Dakota - you each grab ten squads, five hundred people. Let them rest till noon. At two, each of you takes a town. Move all our units into the countryside and start setting up defenses. Nobody goes back into town for at least a month."

"Wait, move them into the countryside?" Dakota blinked. "But Commander, why? And what if they refuse?"

"You don’t need to understand. Just do what I said. If they won’t agree, make them. Force if needed." Magnus’s voice was sharp. "Each of you, go to Liana’s and pick up twenty Metal Crystals."

He was clearly fed up with the pushback.

"I still don’t get it... Commander!" Dakota bit out.

Magnus exploded. "Then don’t go! Kristina, you take over Dakota’s job!"

"Understood." Kristina answered without a pause.

"Commander, you can’t just - You haven’t even explained - " Dakota protested.

"I can’t? This is my unit! I run it how I see fit! I don’t owe you an explanation!" Magnus roared, jabbing a finger at her. "Get to logistics! You’re not needed here."
