Chapter 219: Chapter 219 Swallowed Alive - Still Fighting

Sharp pain shot up Magnus’s trapped calf, but he gritted his teeth and roared at the others. The two women snapped out of it, grabbed the steel rope in front of them. The pressure on Magnus’s body eased. He gasped for breath, clenched his jaw, and with a sudden kick of his right leg, swung his body into a half-arc in midair, hands locking onto the steel rope above.

Below, the bus was gone - swallowed entirely by the mountain crevice. But hanging on the rope under him, like dangled grasshoppers, were rows of female teammates, all looking up with tense faces.

Climbing the steel rope that had dropped into the fissure, Magnus pulled himself over the edge and into the entrance of the underground grain bunker. Including Magnus, all 49 people from the bus had miraculously made it out alive.

"Captain! We can’t hold much longer! Do something - fast!"

"Magnus! That breach just keeps sending more of those giant sparrows in!"

"Captain, we...!"

Before Magnus could even stand properly, a group of female soldiers reloading their weapons surrounded him. Emily pushed her way through, pointed at the gaping hole, shouting, "Magnus, what now? There are too many of them! We can’t kill them all!"

Each of those sparrows, the size of motorbikes, would still flap and lunge forward even with bullets in their bodies - unless the shot was fatal - and charged at the women even fiercer than before.

Seeing this, Magnus yelled, "The breached sides - quick, get some Meteor Soil ready! They’ll fear fire!"

Instantly, the hundreds of female soldiers snapped out of their panic. Two full squads stayed behind on each side - about a hundred total - while the rest turned and rushed to gather Meteor Soil and mineral water.

In under five minutes, the soldiers were back - some carrying it by hand, others bundling it in their coats. They hastily spread the Meteor Soil across the breached ground, forming a strip three meters wide. Then, others stepped in to pour water over it.

They were skilled at this - standard procedure. Once the right amount was poured, women on both sides sparked their lighters.

"Fwoosh!" A five-meter-high blue flame shot up from the soil, sealing most of the gap.

The bunker stood about eight meters tall. The flame didn’t quite reach the ceiling, but the outer heat of the fire was hotter than the core, making even the three-meter gap above searing enough to scare the sparrows back.

One or two tried to push forward, but screamed and flailed their wings as they fell backward - straight into the other burning Meteor Soil pile. The smell of roasted flesh rose, quickly followed by the acrid stink of scorched meat.

For the moment, they were safe. Through the haze of flames, the female fighters stared nervously at the retreating, singed sparrows. A few collapsed on the floor, completely spent.

"Magnus, what now? Do we leave the bunker?"

Emily, Charlotte, and the others came forward. None of them had any composure left; they were shaken. This fight was entirely beyond their control.

Even the toughest wouldn’t dare say they weren’t scared right then - not without lying through their teeth.

"Have everyone calm down. Stay focused. No panicking," Magnus said firmly, scanning the group.

Then he asked quickly, "What about the main gate? What’s happening over there?"

"No issues at the gate for now. But Liana just used a Metal Crystal and ran out, except..." Liana’s voice trailed off, worry clouding her eyes.

"What the hell was she thinking? Who let her go?" Magnus barked, fury flashing in his eyes. Liana’s big eyes welled up, and she turned her face aside.

Charlotte stepped forward quickly to defend her, "Magnus, don’t yell at her. You know exactly how Sophia is - reckless as ever. This wasn’t Liana’s call."

"How long’s she been gone?"

Ignoring Liana’s reaction, Magnus shot his question at Charlotte.

"Not long. Maybe ten minutes."

"You all head to my vehicle and wait. Let the squad across the breach know they must not, under any circumstance, let the fire go out! I’ll get everyone out of here!"

With that, Magnus took off toward the cave mouth in long strides. When he reached the entrance to the underground grain store, he heard the loud banging noises echoing from beyond the gate. The female squad aiming their rifles at the door were visibly tense.

Emily hurried over to him. "What’s outside?"

"We’re not sure!" one of the women shouted back. "It started not long after you left. We don’t know!"

"Keep your eyes sharp! Don’t let your guard down!" Magnus snapped. Then something hit him, and he turned sharply to Chloe.

"Chloe! Get someone to spread meteor soil around the gate - now, just in case!"

"Understood!" she answered, already sprinting away.

Emily looked at him, hesitant. "You’re going out there?"

Magnus gave a faint nod, his right hand brushing over the black ring tattoo on his left hand. "Stay here and wait if you want. I’ll be back soon. Just make sure that fire by the breach holds. No matter what - don’t let it die!"

He took a deep breath, staring at the smaller door set into the grain store’s massive gate. Then he yanked it open and stepped out -

But before he could take more than a step, something slammed down from above. A monstrous beak, half a meter wide and nearly as long as a man, drove down and clamped around him. In a blink, the giant rooster had already swallowed him halfway.

With a jerk of its neck, the beast forced the rest of Magnus’s body down its throat.

He didn’t even have time to react - one moment his feet touched solid ground, the next he was airborne. His legs disappeared into the thing’s gullet, his upper body flailing backward just in time to glimpse starry skies - and then total blackness.

Slick, stinking goo coated his skin as he slid down fast.

What the hell is this?

All he could see was pitch black. Whatever swallowed him, it definitely wasn’t friendly. Seconds later, he crashed into the giant rooster’s stomach. The walls pulsed and squeezed, layers of slimy flesh heaving around him, like they were trying to crush him outright - or digest him alive.

Damn it! If he hadn’t triggered his Metal Crystal... Even ten thousand Life Crystals wouldn’t have saved him now.

His head spun. The stench made his stomach churn, but nothing came up no matter how hard he retched.

Then it hit him - he couldn’t breathe anymore.
