Harem Startup : The Demon Billionaire is on Vacation-Chapter 730: Paranoia Keeps Me Alive
Chapter 730 – Paranoia Keeps Me Alive
Zehar immediately recoiled.
’Pu!’
"That look again?" Lux muttered.
Zehar wiggled aggressively.
’I dislike resurrection anchors.’
Corvus crouched slightly, examining the crystal.
"You’re setting a respawn here?" he asked flatly.
"Contingency," Lux replied.
Corvus straightened slowly.
"You’re still going? Even knowing it might be dangerous?"
Lux adjusted his cuff.
"I have to. I don’t have a choice."
Corvus folded his arms.
"That’s usually when people die, boss."
Lux gave him a sideways look.
"Encouraging."
"I’m realistic."
Lux exhaled slowly.
"Just... I need your backup in case the worst happens."
Corvus’s expression sharpened.
"What do you mean worst?"
"Full security mode. Protect this mansion."
Corvus blinked.
"...From who?"
Lux shrugged lightly.
"Anyone."
Zehar made a soft displeased wobble.
"Pu!"
"Yes, you too," Lux said dryly.
Corvus looked between the Save Point Crystal and Lux.
"You think they’d attack your home."
"I think paranoia keeps me alive."
Corvus stared at him for a long second.
"You’re not joking."
"No."
Silence hung for half a beat.
Then Corvus cracked his knuckles.
"Alright. Full lockdown. I’ll reroute the wards. Trigger the infernal perimeter, escalate the barrier, notify Sira discreetly?"
"No."
Corvus paused.
"No?"
"No panic."
Corvus narrowed his eyes.
"You’re walking into what might be a trap and you don’t want to panic your harem?"
"Correct."
"You are insane."
"I diversify risk."
Zehar scoffed loudly.
"Pu!"
"Behave," Lux said to the slime.
Zehar puffed and dropped to the floor, flattening itself in exaggerated protest.
Lux stepped toward the balcony doors.
"System," he said calmly, "to the Nexus Prime office."
[Destination Confirmed: Greed Tower.]
The balcony doors shimmered.
Reality bent.
The doors unfolded into an elevator interior lined with black marble and molten gold veins running through the walls like trapped lightning.
Lux stepped inside.
Corvus gave him one last look.
"One more question, boss. If it smells worse than the worst?"
Lux smirked.
"Then I renegotiate hell."
The doors closed.
The elevator dropped.
Down.
Through mortal layers.
Through spiritual boundaries.
Through infernal gravity.
The sensation was less falling and more descending into thicker air. Heat replaced cool morning light. The hum of demonic infrastructure vibrated faintly through the walls.
Then...
-Ding!
The doors opened.
Greed Tower.
Nexus Prime Office.
Lux stepped out into polished obsidian flooring. Soul contracts shimmered faintly in the distance like constellations.
And there...
Zavros.
His father stood near the central desk, sleeves rolled up, jacket slightly undone, expression exhausted but composed.
Lux paused.
"...Morning, dad."
Zavros turned slowly.
"You look..." Lux tilted his head slightly. "...dead."
Zavros stared at him.
"I am."
He rubbed his temple.
"And I am surprised how you held this job for almost two centuries without going insane."
Lux shrugged lightly.
"I compartmentalize."
"You are an incubus."
"Correct."
"You should be distracted."
"I am."
Zavros blinked.
"...What."
"Diversified distractions."
Zavros let out a dry breath.
"You are impossible."
Lux smirked faintly.
"Yeah, I’m shocked too."
He stepped closer.
"But let’s pull that aside."
His tone shifted.
Subtle.
Serious.
"The King summoned me. You. Grandpa."
Zavros’s eyes sharpened.
"So it’s confirmed."
"Yes."
Lux walked toward the desk, fingers resting lightly on the surface.
"Let me tell you something before we walk in."
Zavros folded his arms.
"I got attacked after yesterday’s conference in the Celestial realm."
Zavros’s jaw tightened.
"By who."
"Arch-Luminary Seraph Vaeloryn."
"And?"
"I was dragged into limbo with Archon Vizreel."
Zavros went silent. "Vizreel was there?"
"Yes."
"And you’re standing."
"Obviously."
Zavros exhaled slowly. "And the attacker?"
Lux’s eyes darkened slightly. "The culprit escaped."
"How?"
"Infernal teleportation."
Zavros froze.
"...What."
"Royal grade."
The air in the office thickened.
Royal grade infernal teleportation was not common access.
It required authority.
High authority.
Zavros stared at his son.
"So."
Lux nodded slowly.
"So."
Silence stretched.
Zavros stepped closer. "You think the King..."
Lux shrugged lightly. "I think we cannot act recklessly."
Zavros let out a short laugh. "That is not an answer."
"It’s a survival strategy."
Zavros paced once, then turned back. "If it was royal teleportation—"
"The king didn’t want to stain his hands. Remember that."
Zavros stared at him. "You’re calm."
"I’m calculating."
Zavros looked at him for a long second. "I heard an Ancient Abyss Lord is dead. You think it’s connected?"
Lux nodded once.
"You think he was used?"
"Yes."
"You think this meeting is not about condolences?"
"Zero chance."
Zavros rubbed his jaw. "And Asmo?"
Lux exhaled. "Grandpa won’t come unless he smells manipulation."
Zavros frowned slightly. "Or entertainment."
"That too."
Zavros studied his son carefully. "You’re not scared."
Lux gave him a look. "Should I be."
"You walked into celestial fire yesterday."
"I walked out."
Zavros sighed. "You are too comfortable with escalation."
Lux tilted his head slightly. "And you’re too tired."
Zavros smirked faintly, but his gaze sharpened. "You think this is about you."
Lux’s lips curved faintly. "It always is."
Zavros shook his head. "You have too many enemies."
"Then I reduce them."
"Careful."
Lux leaned back slightly against the desk. "If the King is using my opposer as a scapegoat, he wants reaction."
"And you?"
"I give him none."
Zavros studied him. "And if he wants to provoke the remaining Abyss Lords to strike you."
"Then I let them show their hand."
"And if this is a loyalty test."
Lux smirked. "I pass."
Zavros exhaled slowly. "You are disturbingly confident."
"I have to be..."
A faint hum echoed from the wall.
[Meeting Reminder: 12 Minutes Remaining.]
Lux glanced toward the infernal horizon.
"Dad."
Zavros looked at him.
"If something goes wrong—"
"It won’t."
"If it does."
Zavros sighed.
"You already set a contingency."
Lux didn’t answer.
Zavros’s eyes flicked briefly downward.
"You did."
Lux shrugged lightly. "I diversify."
Zavros almost smiled. "You really are Greed."
"And Lust."
Zavros rolled his eyes.
"Please do not bring Lust energy into a royal confrontation."
"No promises."
The office lights dimmed slightly as a summoning glyph began forming at the center of the floor.
Infernal King’s call.
Zavros straightened.
Lux adjusted his jacket one last time.
"You ready," Zavros asked quietly.
Lux’s eyes gleamed faintly.
"Let’s see who thinks they’re moving pieces."
The summoning circle flared.
And father and son stepped forward into whatever version of hell awaited them.
