Hated By The Alpha-Chapter 148: Who’s your husband?
’He recognized us!’ Avery screamed inside Audrey’s head, causing her to wince.
"No!" She screamed back at Avery then suddenly realized that Lake was still standing in front of her.
She quickly sent him an apologetic look and said in a more gentle tone, "I meant, No, Mr. Aloha, I don’t know who you are, I think we’re just having a misunderstanding here," Audrey informed, subtly stepping away from him
Lake frowned, he saw the seriousness in her eyes and it only made him angrier.
"Alright," He walked back to his chair and sat down.
"Have a seat, little miss," He pointed to her chair.
Audrey almost giggled at the way he was acting as if he owned the office. But she wasn’t complaining, she even liked it.
She returned to her seat and smiled at him.
Lake didn’t say a word, he was quietly observing her, many things running through his mind. He could still feel his wolf getting kind of excited because he had gone close to the lady, an emotion he never showed to Melody.
He wondered why this woman had suddenly decided to copy his wine and yet had the nerve to deny knowing who he was.
"Tell me this, little miss," Lake sat up, placing his elbows on the table.
"Audrey, Mr. Aloha, my name is Audrey," She corrected softly, looking into his eyes to check for any recognition of her name.
There was none.
Lake paused, and then he simply nodded. He almost felt as if he had heard that name somewhere, but he quickly dismissed it; it was just a name, and just like any other name on earth, it could be owned by a billion, and one people.
He looked at her with a cold glare and asked. "You don’t know me, you don’t know anything about me, then why does it feel like you’re trying your best to get me to notice you by naming your products after me, and not just that, your wine tastes exactly like mine, mind telling me why it is so?" He narrowed his eyes at her, regarding her with scrutiny.
Audrey bit her lips, well, she wasn’t going to say she had never thought of the day when he would find out about her wine, but it had just been one of those unattended thoughts that you thought about but never believed it would actually happen.
But, here she was, sitting in front of her mate and being questioned about her reason for wanting to create something that would remind her of him.
She sighed, pursing her lips, she looked briefly at him before looking away from his eyes. Her happiness was starting to wear out as time went by; she had to stop deceiving herself; the person in front of her wasn’t her Lake anymore; it was time she faced her reality and moved on instead of building her castle in the air. She would heal faster by accepting the truth faster than by letting herself believe a lie for a very long time.
His eyes were no longer the same, just Like she had feared five years ago, he was now staring at her with unfamiliar eyes, and it was time for her to stop deluding herself.
She sighed, looking back at him. "It’s a coincidence, Mr. Aloha," she replied.
Lake frowned, "Listen to me, woman, don’t play games with me, in case you haven’t noticed, I’m an Alpha, and if you know about Alphas, you’d know that we tend to lose our tamper really quickly, so, don’t dare me," He warned in a low voice, his gaze piercing her soul.
Audrey had been suppressing her wolf and Aura since she came to Paris, making it hard for wolves to detect her, she wanted to operate in the new country as a neutral body, but since her mate had brought it up, maybe she should also let him know that she too, was an Alpha.
Audrey stood and walked around her table, moving toward him, Lake followed her with his eyes, and when she stopped in front of him, he felt the sharp pain in his head again.
"I understand what you said about Alphas, Mr. Aloha, because..." she paused and let her wolf flash across her eyes.
In the next second, Lake suddenly pulled her down to his lap, taking a long sniff of her neck.
Lavender and honey, such a sweet scent!
"You’re an Alpha wolf!" He growled lowly, his voice vibrated through his chest.
Audrey wasn’t expecting him to touch her; she was currently controlling her breathing, and she realized that he had his hand holding her down on his lap by her waist.
Even though he hadn’t touched her bare skin, she still felt those tingles, those familiar tingles she thought she would never feel again, they immobilized her, she knew she should stand up from his lap, but she couldn’t, she wanted to feel his hand on her for a long her period, to make up for all those lost times.
Lake was strongly bothered, he could feel a part of his brain trying to tell him that he might have been familiar with the body he was holding, but as frustrating as always was, the feeling disappeared, getting him all angry again.
"Get up!" He pushed Audrey away from himself.
Audrey released a deep breath, straightening out her clothes, this was the hardest her heart had beaten for the past five years.
She cleared her throat and faced him again, his face looked troubled and she immediately felt guilty. Was she causing him pain by doing it too much? She had been carried away and almost forgot the repercussions of forcing herself on him.
It was time she stepped back; she had to find a way to send him back to the States; from the way he looked, he looked well cared for, well, apart from the lonely look she saw in his eyes each time she looked into them.
But, it was better for him to be lonely than to be dead or in a torturous situation like she was putting him into now.
Audrey smiled at him, "We’ve really started on the wrong feet, Mr. Aloha, but, your wine is just a coincidence. Apart from being an Alpha wolf, I’m also a witch. I make my products from purely organic products, using my knowledge as a witch and my sense of smell as a wolf; it’s not a surprise if we end up making the same product because we have the same traits as Alphas; I mean," She explained.
Lake didn’t respond. He only observed her, trying to make himself believe her words.
"I heard you came all the way from the United States, I’m really honored with your visit, and I don’t mind paying for your flight back, but I hope you don’t stop Baker from doing business with me if he truly wants to," Audrey spoke gently.
Lake suddenly stood, walking toward her, "I have nothing to do with a lair like yourself." His face was emotionless as he stared down at her.
The last thing Audrey wanted was to get into an argument with him, she slowly stepped away from him, not wanting him to touch her again, she too was tortured enough too, she didn’t need those tingles reminding her of what could have been, she knew he could no longer feel them, so she was the only one left to endure and suffer.
"That’s alright, Mr. Aloha, it was a great pleasure seeing you ag - um, seeing you, yeah," She smiled up at him and swiftly dodged him as he was still walking toward her in his predatory steps.
"What a waste of time," Lake muttered and walked toward the door; he was angry; he never expected the woman to be a wolf or even a witch.
But now that he knew, he knew she could make such a wine, she was a witch after all, and he knew witches could make just anything, and filing a legal complaint about her would be like betraying his kind since she was a werewolf too, he would be exposing her to the eager and curious eyes of the government.
He decided to leave; he would pretend as if he didn’t have someone producing his wine in some other part of the world; he was surprised at himself for letting her go easily; it wasn’t in his nature to let things slide this easily.
Just when he was about to open the door, the door was pulled open from the other side and Lake was almost pushed to the ground by an energetic little boy.
"Ouch!" Mikhail grunted as he suddenly hit his head against someone’s strong thigh.
"Easy, kid. Are you okay?" He immediately stepped back and squatted in front of the boy, taking his hand off his forehead.
"It hurts, but I’ll be fine," Mikhail replied, looking up to see the face of the person he had run into.
Lake was shocked as he stared at the kid’s face, he frowned, trying to realize what felt so wrong as he stared at the kid.
Audrey was panicking but at the same time, she felt teary as she stared at the father and son duo. She felt bad for her son and for Lake, too. She was guilty of denying each of them the presence of the other in their lives.
’Don’t worry, he wouldn’t recognize him. Everything about you has been forgotten, all connection broken, he’ll only feel strange seeing him, nothing else,’ Selena softly explained, feeling Audrey’s panic
Audrey sighed in relief and quickly walked toward them to take Mikhail away from Lake.
"I’m sorry, Mr. Aloha, he’s a little bit hyperactive," Audrey apologized, gently dragging Mikhail away from Lake’s hold.
Lake blinked slowly and rose from his full length. Surprisingly he wasn’t angry.
"That’s alright, he’s just a kid..." he paused, staring at Audrey with a frown, "Is he your kid?" He questioned.
Audrey nodded, looking into his eyes, ’Our child,’ She wished she could say that to him.
Lake felt a little pang in his chest at her reply, what was this? Why did he feel as if he was disappointed in her for having a kid?
"Ah, I see, so, you have a husband, a boyfriend?" His face was devoid of emotions but his voice sounded almost pained.
’Who is your husband?’ He asked internally.
Audrey was still trying to figure out how to answer him when Mikhail suddenly pointed behind Lake.
"Papa!" He jumped on his feet as he pointed at the approaching Leon.
Lake turned with a frown, looking at the blonde guy in a black suit, he scoffed and turned to Audrey with a smirk, "Him?" He let his lips raise in a proud smile for the first time in five years.
