Chapter 168: Welcome back

Audrey had sent a message to her mother, who was in the car behind theirs, telling her to remember to act distanced from people.

Green was riding with Isabella, and Audrey knew she didn’t have to worry about Moon getting too excited and going out of character. Firstly, she had no friends, except Miranda and the twins. Secondly, she barely showed emotions, so Audrey’s mind was relaxed on that aspect, she just hoped Lake wouldn’t find out anything fishy.

"Moma, look! A wolf!" Mikhail plastered his forehead on the window as they drove through the pack’s border.

Audrey smiled, watching him in his excitement. He had been sleeping from the airport, she was glad he had woken up a few minutes ago and got to see them enter the pack.

"Those are werewolves, Sweetheart, just like Mummy, Lake, and you in a few months," She rubbed his back.

"Wow, Awesome," He whispered.

Audrey looked at the front mirror from the back seat and caught Lake staring at her, she simply removed her eyes and stared out of the window. No one knew the amount of hurt Audrey was feeling at that moment.

All her memories were in that Pack, both good and bad, especially memories of her and the man sitting beside the driver.

She was hurting, she was coming back to a place that was supposed to make her feel happy, yet she wasn’t; her joy can never be complete without her mate, Lake. To her, he was the definition of happiness.

Yes, her son made her happy, but it was different. The love she had for each of them was different; she needed to have both of them to feel balanced.

She started to see the familiar residences as their car sped through the streets, her eyes glued to the restaurants that she had visited with her friends.

She wondered how Sandra would treat her, Andrew had told her that Sandra bore a grudge against her for leaving the pack without informing her. She hoped she still got to get her friend back. She’d missed everyone.

They were nearing the Packhouse, and Audrey could see people pretending to be busy along the roads; she knew they’d been informed to be familiar with her, so they were out to catch a glimpse of her.

"Moma, there’s so many people, do they all live in this pack?" Mikhail asked.

Before Audrey could answer, Lake beat her to it, "That’s not even half of them, little man, you’ll meet them all in one big hall soon, like that?" Lake qu4stioned from the front seat.

Mikhail gasped in his innocent excitement, ’Moma, did you hear that, I’m meeting the whole pack in a big hall, like Alphas do," He went o wrong to his mother and hugged her.

"Yes, baby, just like Alphas do," She kissed his nose.

Lake felt so calm for the first time in years; his pack didn’t seem so gloomy anymore, and he was looking forward to spending his time with Audrey and Mikhail. He couldn’t wait to take Mikhail on a run into the forests; he had the urge to be the first to watch him change into his wolf for the first time.

The car was finally reaching the packhouse, but Audrey was surprised to see a whole new building beside it; she couldn’t understand what was going on. The building didn’t look like a home or even a residential building building for the pack members. It looked like Lake had moved his company into the pack.

Why though?

Her thoughts were removed from the building when she caught sight of Miranda and Ms. Bridget standing in front of the Packhouse.

She felt herself getting excited like a kid; she couldn’t believe she might be the first person to break character and run into them.

It’s been five long years, and it was the same spot they had stood when sending her off. Honestly, she never believed she’d ever come back here, but here she was.

She was fighting her emotions as the car came to a stop.

"We’re here," Andrew announced from the driver’s seat.

Audrey took a deep breath, looking at Lake through the front mirror.

"Let’s go, Moma," Mikhail went over to Audrey and tugged her hand.

"Yes, yes, let’s go," She said and carried him picked the door open.

Lake was already waiting for her in front of the car, eager to take them into his home.

"Welcome back, Alpha," Maria walked over and bowed to him.

Audrey looked at Maria and smiled secretly, she could see the shock on everyone’s face as they saw that she was carrying a boy in her arms. She knew she didn’t have to explain it to them; they already had a look of realization on their faces.

"Moma! She looks like grandma!" Mikhail pointed to Miranda.

Audrey gasped, biting his hand down, "I don’t think so, sweetheart," She chuckled nervously.

Lake ignored Maria, who had greeted him, and went to Audrey, "Come on, I’ll show you to your room," He said to her.

Audrey nodded and followed him.

"Hi," She said to Miranda and Ms. Bridget as she passed them.

Lake only nodded to Ms. Bridget and kept walking in.

Audrey was left to wonder why he was treating everyone so coldly, did he have a problem with them before traveling?

Inside the general living room, Audrey saw her friends standing in a corner.

She saw her half-sister, Maya, and her mate, Stacy. The others standing with them were Alex, Mary, Caleb, Cara, Grace, Janeth, Lawrence, and his mate, who was also her best friend, Sandra.

"Welcome back, Alpha," They all bowed to him as they walked toward the stairs that led to the condo.

"Why are you all here?" Lake paused at the foot of the step and asked them with narrowed eyes.

Audrey sighed; she was about to ask the same thing. She thought they’d been warned not to show any signs, from the way they were staring at her, Lake might just as well find out they knew each other.

Audrey watched as her friends looked at each other, searching for someone to speak on their behalf.

She was about to ask Lake to keep walking when she saw Sandra walk forward. Everyone mirrored her expression: shock.

They all stared at Sandra as if she’d suddenly lost it. They hoped she wasn’t about to what they were thinking.

"Welcome, Alpha, we were informed by Andrew that you were bringing back a lady, so we thought we might come say hi to our Luna," Sandra smiled.

Lake was speechless for a while, not that he didn’t like Sandra’s; it was just so out of the blue, and he wasn’t sure if Aidrey would take the joke well.

Audrey sensed the tense atmosphere, even Mikhail was staring at everyone in confusion. "You have quite a kind member, Mr. Lake; it would be nice to get to know them," She walked forward, smiling at Sandra.

Sandra looked at Audrey, her eyes slightly turning teary, but she removed it and looked at Mikhail, "Hi, little guy, I’m Sandra; what’s your name?" She asked kindly.

Mary scoffed among the other friends. She knew Sandra was going to be the first to speak to Audrey, yet she was acting as if she was never going to look Audrey’s way again.

"I’m Mikhail, nice to meet you..." He paused and looked at his mother’s face, "She’s pretty, Moma," He whispered.

Audrey laughed softly, "She is. Nice to meet you, Sandra, I’m Audrey, and I’m looking forward to meeting the rest of you after settling in," Audrey used the opportunity to speak to Sandra.

Sandra ignored her and looked at Mikhail and Lake, "Welcome back Alpha," She bowed to them and stepped back.

Lake slowly nodded at Sabdra, "Ask Ns. Bridget to prepare food for Audrey and Mikhail," He ordered.

"I’ll do it," Sandra volunteered.

"Alright," Lake nodded and held Audrey’s hand, "Let’s go," He said and tugged her behind him.

He was already tired of talking g to other people, he couldn’t wait to take Audrey to her room.

Audrey looked behind her as she filled Lake up the stairs and found her friends waving at her, except Sandra, who had a frown on her face as she stared at her.

Audrey sighed, facing her front; a new series was about to fall behind in her life; she hoped this one was easier than the others.

"This is my home..." Lake stood beside the door to let them in, he watched her reaction to see how she would react.

Audrey bit her lips to keep her tears from falling, she felt very emotional standing inside that home again.

She was back in his home, but not back with him. He prayed to every spiritual force guarding their religion to make it work this time, and when it did, she prayed they would be left to enjoy their just like every other wolf out there.

"Your home is beautiful..." Her voice was soft.

She looked toward the kitchen and wondered if anything had changed in there.

"Where is my room, Daddy?" Mikhail asked, bringing Audrey and Lake out of their thoughts.
