Chapter 65: Chapter 65: No Blood Relation

In the lounge next to the racecourse, a miserable-looking Clara Jacobs was about to push the door open.

Jay Keane stopped her. "Ms. Jacobs, Mr. Sinclair is still working. He has an important video conference today. Please wait here for a moment."

Clara Jacobs froze. She looked at the closed door, a bitter feeling welling up inside her.

’I called Aiden and told him I’d been bullied, but all he cares about is work? Not a single word of concern?’

’In the end, I just don’t matter enough to him.’

The image of Nina Walsh’s face immediately surfaced in Clara Jacobs’s mind.

’Nina Walsh. That name was a thorn in her side. If she ever wanted to rest easy again, she had to pull it out completely.’

"In that case, I won’t disturb Aiden while he’s working. I’ll head back for now."

An hour later, Clara Jacobs met with Wendy Sherman in a secluded café.

"Wendy Sherman, do you still want to marry Declan Grant?"

Wendy Sherman nodded. "Of course. Last time, I helped you leak all that dirt on Nina Walsh. You said you’d help me. When are you going to make good on your promise?"

"Don’t be so impatient. I’m here now to make good on that promise, aren’t I? Think about it. The engagement between your families has already been announced. If Nina Walsh were to disappear, wouldn’t that engagement naturally fall to you?"

Wendy Sherman gave Clara Jacobs a dubious look and asked nervously, "What do you mean, ’disappear’? Isn’t that too risky?"

Clara Jacobs said confidently, "You don’t need to worry about how she’ll disappear. I’ll take care of it. But right now, I need your help to find Nina Walsh."

Ever since she escaped from the hospital, it was as if Nina Walsh had vanished from Crestfall without a trace.

Wendy Sherman thought for a moment, then said with confidence, "Leave it to me. We might not be able to find her, but I can force her out of hiding."

...

「Paelin, a seaside town near Crestfall.」

Nina Walsh had been resting in the quiet little town for several days. Her mood was relaxed, and she was feeling more energetic.

She loved sitting by the window, listening to the sound of the waves and telling stories to the baby in her belly.

She was four months pregnant and hadn’t once had the chance to properly nurture her baby like this.

’If nothing goes wrong, I’ll stay here for six months, until the baby is born.’

One sunny day, Nina Walsh woke up naturally. She picked up her phone to check the time when a news alert suddenly popped up: [Scandalous Affair of Maelie’s Chairwoman].

The name "Maelie" instantly jolted her awake. She tapped on the article, and a photo immediately jumped out at her.

The photo showed her mother, Rose Walsh, holding hands with a man—but the man wasn’t Brian Sherman.

She read through the article again. It was a long piece reporting that Rose Walsh had been unfaithful in her marriage, cheating with the man in the photograph. It claimed Brian Sherman could no longer tolerate it, had decided to file for divorce, and had kicked her out of the house.

"Absurd!"

’This is purely a smear campaign against Mom, meant to whitewash Brian Sherman.’

The peace Nina had been feeling was completely shattered by this baseless gossip.

She pulled out her old phone and turned it on. Sure enough, there was a message from Wendy Sherman in her inbox.

Wendy Sherman: [Get back to Crestfall if you don’t want your mother’s reputation completely destroyed.]

Nina knew it was a trap, but Wendy’s next message made her hesitate.

Wendy Sherman: [Want to know if you’re really Dad’s daughter? I’ll be waiting for you at the hospital’s DNA lab.]

’Wendy sounded so sure. Could it be true? Am I really not Brian Sherman’s daughter?’

Nina thought back on her life. Brian Sherman had never shown her a single shred of affection, from her childhood all the way to adulthood. She had often wondered if she was truly his biological daughter.

’Countless times, she had wished she wasn’t Brian Sherman’s daughter.’

’She would rather be an orphan than have any connection to him.’

...

「The Sinclair Group.」

Julian Sinclair sat in his office, bored out of his mind. He was nothing like Aiden Sinclair. While Aiden liked to handle everything personally, Julian preferred to poach top talent from all over the industry. He’d delegate all his work to his subordinates, who were the best in their fields, and enjoy his role as the happy ’decision-maker’.

His assistant, Aaron Zane, pushed the door open. "Mr. Sinclair, Miss Walsh’s phone is on. We’ve tracked her back to Crestfall."

"Oh? She’s back?" Julian Sinclair’s interest was piqued. "Send the location to my phone. I’m going to go check it out."

Julian Sinclair followed the phone’s location, which led him to the testing center of a private hospital.

In the reception hallway of the testing center, Wendy Sherman said to Nina, "I knew you’d show up. Let’s go."

Nina glanced at her, then turned and walked to the sample collection window, where a nurse drew blood from both of them.

"The results will be ready in forty minutes at the earliest."

Nina rolled down her sleeve and sat in a nearby chair.

Wendy Sherman sauntered over with a smirk. "Hey, Nina, if the results come back and show we’re not related by blood, that’ll prove you aren’t Dad’s biological daughter. It’ll mean your mom had you with another man. Her affair will be confirmed beyond a doubt!"

"Aren’t you curious who your real father is?" Wendy’s tone was firm, as if she already knew the outcome.

She pulled out her phone and displayed the photo of Rose Walsh holding hands with the other man. "Take a good look at this picture. The man’s eyes... don’t they look familiar?"

Nina didn’t respond, but a sense of dread washed over her. The first time she saw the photo, she had indeed felt the man looked familiar, as if she’d seen him somewhere before.

"Haha, stop pretending to be so calm. I know you’re panicking on the inside," Wendy said, gloating.

Wendy’s eyes fell maliciously on Nina’s belly. "I’ll tell you the truth. The man in this photo is Aiden Sinclair’s father, Jonathan Sinclair! Hahahaha! Isn’t that just perfect?"

It was as if thunder had cracked right next to Nina’s ear. All thoughts of composure and calm vanished. She snatched out her phone and zoomed in on the photograph.

In the photo, the man had a pair of striking, upturned eyes—the trademark of the Sinclairs, and the very feature that had seemed so familiar.

Nina’s hands began to tremble, her mind a complete blank.

’How is this possible? How could this be happening?’

In that instant, Nina suddenly wished she were Brian Sherman’s daughter. Even though he was a scumbag, a piece of trash, right now she desperately wished she was his daughter.

"The report is ready! The DNA test proves that the two of you have no biological relationship."

The nurse handed over the test report. Nina collapsed onto the chair, utterly defeated. Wendy shot her a glance, her face alight with a triumphant, victorious smile.
