He Got Engaged to His First Love On the Day I Died-Chapter 130: Risking His Life for Her Forgiveness
"What I mean is, I’d like to ask you to go see Mr. Grant. His condition is dire." Weller Kendall’s grave gaze fell on Natalie Morgan’s cold expression. "You’re not going to like hearing this, but intentional assault, if pursued, has very serious consequences."
Natalie Morgan looked up at him.
Weller Kendall continued, "You have a child. Even if you don’t think about yourself, shouldn’t you think about your child? I’m sure you understand the gravity of the situation. I don’t need to spell it out for you."
They stared at each other for an unknown length of time.
Finally, Natalie Morgan averted her gaze, replying coldly, "It’s true what they say: like master, like servant. Weller Kendall, don’t try to threaten me with my child. I’m not falling for it."
"I’m not threatening you."
Weller Kendall felt he had said all that needed to be said.
Since she was unwilling, there was no point in saying more.
"Alright, then. I’ll go back and take care of Mr. Grant." Just as he was about to leave, he seemed to remember something and turned back. "Your father is indeed with us right now. But it hasn’t been five years, like you think. We only found out he was still alive a couple of days ago."
Before Natalie Morgan could process his words, Weller Kendall had already gone downstairs and left.
If Theodore Grant had said it, she might not have believed it, but Weller Kendall had always been a relatively straightforward person. A seed of doubt began to sprout in her heart.
’If what Weller Kendall said is true, then did Felix Finch lie?’
’Felix has no reason to lie to me.’
Natalie’s mind was suddenly in turmoil.
’It was like the clouds had parted only to reveal a thicker fog.’
「In the hospital.」
Theodore Grant was still unconscious.
Felix Finch stood before his hospital bed, staring at the bloodless face, and suddenly smiled.
"Doesn’t feel good to be stabbed by the person you love most, does it?" He leaned down slightly and patted Theodore’s cheek. "This is just the beginning." 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
"Back then, Rose Yeats broke off our engagement for you, and then she killed herself. All of it, piece by piece... did you think I’d forgotten?"
"Let me tell you, I haven’t. Not a single day has passed where I haven’t hated you. My love and my child are gone, so don’t you even dream of having a happy family."
"You want love? You want to marry the woman you’ve placed on a pedestal? Well, I’m going to make you stumble. I’m going to make you two misunderstand and torture each other, destined to love but never be together."
"What you owe me, what you owe Rose Yeats... you can pay it back slowly."
His eyes were dark with anguish. The events from so many years ago were replaying before his eyes, filled with grief and pain.
He could never forget the sight of Rose Yeats falling from a hundred-story building.
Even more, he could never forget that even as she jumped to her death, her last words were a shout of, "Theodore Grant, I love you!"
"Ah, Theodore... for the sake of us growing up together, I can’t promise I’ll leave your body intact. But I guarantee I’ll leave the bodies of your wife and son intact."
Felix Finch’s face twisted as he burst into maniacal laughter.
The sound echoed through the silent hospital room, spine-chilling.
...
「One week later.」
Theodore Grant’s condition had improved.
His hand was wrapped in gauze, as was his abdomen in thick layers. His face and neck were covered in scratches, and on his good hand, there were teeth marks on the web of his thumb.
Weller Kendall couldn’t help but let out a soft sigh.
’He looks as pathetic as can be.’
"COUGH, COUGH." A muffled sound came from the throat of the man on the bed.
Weller Kendall immediately shot up from his chair, looking at the man on the bed with concern. "Mr. Grant, you’re finally awake?"
"I’m not dead?" His voice was hoarse. He thought he’d gone to see the King of Hell this time.
"Of course not. You’re alive and well." Weller Kendall smiled reassuringly, signaling for him not to move. "The wound on your abdomen was just stitched up. Don’t move around, or you might tear it open."
"How... how many days was I out?"
He felt like he had been asleep for so long that he thought he would never wake up.
"A week," Weller Kendall answered honestly.
"Then..." His eyes filled with anticipation as he asked Weller Kendall, "...has she come to see me?"
Weller Kendall’s heart ached hearing this. He gave an awkward purse of his lips. "Are you talking about your wife? She hasn’t come to see you."
"Such a heartless woman." ’She doesn’t love me anymore,’ he thought, ’that’s why she can be so ruthless.’ "It’s okay. I don’t blame her."
"She nearly stabbed you to death, and you don’t blame her?" Weller Kendall couldn’t hold back his two cents. "The way I see it, the chances of you two reconciling are about as slim as Mars crashing into Earth. Why don’t you just give up on her? Besides, she’s already been married and had a child..."
"Tsk." He frowned, looking at Weller Kendall with displeasure. "When did my affairs become your business to meddle in? Say one more word, and you can get out."
It wasn’t that Weller Kendall wanted to meddle.
But Natalie Morgan’s ruthlessness probably ran a thousand, no, ten thousand times deeper than Theodore Grant could imagine.
’If she still had any feelings for him, she wouldn’t have needed to fake her own death to escape, much less marry another man and have a child.’
’Marrying an old man—isn’t that just a blatant declaration that Theodore Grant isn’t even as good as some old geezer?’
"I’m just trying to advise you, sir. Don’t risk your life trying to win her forgiveness. If she won’t forgive you, you could die, and that would just make her happy."
"Stop trying to piss me off, and I won’t die." Theodore Grant was getting annoyed. He ordered, "Get me a glass of water."
"Yes, sir."
Weller Kendall handed the man a glass of water.
"KNOCK KNOCK."
The door to the hospital room suddenly sounded, interrupting their conversation.
Weller Kendall got up to open the door. When he saw who it was, he froze. "You..."
"What, am I not welcome?" Natalie Morgan stood in the doorway, her expression cool.
Weller Kendall quickly bowed. "Please, come in."
He stepped aside to let Natalie Morgan enter.
He then went outside the room and closed the door, leaving the two of them in private.
Natalie Morgan walked into the room, her gaze landing on the pale-faced man on the bed as if he were a stranger. "Don’t get the wrong idea. I didn’t come to see you. I just have some questions. I’ll leave as soon as I’m done."
"What do you want to ask?" He was in a great mood, his eyes curving into crescents. "Ask me anything."
Natalie Morgan parted her lips. "Weller Kendall said you only just found out my dad was alive. So where was he before?"
He didn’t answer her right away, instead proposing a condition. "Let’s trade questions. I’ll answer one of yours, and you have to answer one of mine."
"Theodore Grant, when will you ever change your despicable ways?" She was starting to regret coming.
"This is despicable?" He pushed himself up into a sitting position, staring unblinkingly into her eyes. "This is called an equal exchange."
"Mr. Grant really never makes a losing deal." She believed that some truths would eventually come to light. "It seems I shouldn’t have held such naive illusions about you, Mr. Grant. In that case, there’s no need for me to ask anything."
As she turned to leave, he anxiously reached out to stop her. "Don’t go..."
"Are you going to answer or not?" She didn’t have much patience to waste on him; she could very well find the answers herself.
"I’ll answer." He was helpless against her, a little afraid of her anger. "Your dad... he was living in Yarrow for almost five years."
’Yarrow?’
’We don’t have any relatives in Yarrow.’
’Why would he go there?’
’Could it be... he just didn’t want to see his family?’
She had so many questions she wanted answered.
She didn’t believe a word anyone said. She wanted to ask Maxwell Morgan herself.
"I want to see him." Natalie Morgan’s gaze was fixed on Theodore Grant.
Theodore Grant’s lips curved slightly into a teasing smile. "If I say no, you’re not going to lose your temper and attack me right here in this room, are you?"
