He Got Engaged to His First Love On the Day I Died-Chapter 147: Soft-hearted After All
The outskirts of Riverden in spring.
It was the peak of the cherry blossom season.
Pink and white cherry blossoms, like clouds of mist, covered the entire mountainside.
A gentle breeze swept by, and the petals danced like butterflies—a breathtaking sight.
Weller Kendall glanced at his watch.
Theodore Grant had been sitting in this quiet corner for over two hours, as still as a statue.
His gaze was deep and distant, as if ensnared by some thought from which he could not break free.
Weller Kendall couldn’t help but worry that Theodore wouldn’t be able to take it.
He ventured a suggestion. "Mr. Grant, why don’t we head over to the kindergarten? I hear they’re having a sports day. It should be pretty lively."
Theodore frowned slightly, his voice cold. "I don’t like children."
Weller Kendall guessed Theodore Grant had forgotten about the kindergarten he’d invested in.
It made sense.
He had a professional investment firm under his name, involved in a dizzying array of complex projects.
A trivial little kindergarten was easy to forget.
"You’ve been invested in that kindergarten for almost five years and haven’t visited once. Why not take this opportunity to go have a look?"
Theodore Grant remained silent, the light deep in his eyes unreadable.
After sitting for a while longer, he finally stood up. "Fine. Let’s go have a look."
The sports day was in full swing on the school’s playground.
It was said to be a parent-child sports day.
There were many parents present, and the atmosphere was very lively.
The principal walked alongside Theodore Grant, enthusiastically explaining, "The children from the middle and senior classes are independent enough to participate in various events on their own. The junior class children, however, need their parents to complete the activities with them. This time, we’ve made a special rule requiring fathers to actively participate."
Theodore Grant raised an eyebrow slightly as he listened to the principal, showing little interest.
Weller Kendall followed close behind Theodore Grant, and the two found clean seats in the stands with a clear view.
As Theodore Grant casually scanned his surroundings, a familiar little figure suddenly entered his line of sight.
The little guy was sitting there all alone, looking a bit lonely and helpless.
He was quiet, like a pitiful little thing.
"Is Natalie Morgan’s son at this kindergarten too?" Theodore Grant’s brow furrowed.
Weller Kendall wasn’t sure, so he turned to the principal and asked, "That child over there, what’s his name? Did his parents not come for the sports day?"
The principal had a strong impression of the child. "Oh, you mean little Momo? He comes from a single-parent family; he doesn’t have a father. I called his mother earlier, and she said she wouldn’t be participating in any events, so we just had him sit there and watch the other kids play."
Theodore Grant couldn’t help but let his gaze fall back on the lonely figure.
’That little brat is already timid and not very outgoing. Even if he doesn’t have a father, for his mother not to show up... That’s really out of line.’
’At this rate, he’s going to be a total wreck when he grows up.’
He stood up, casually took off his jacket, and tossed it to Weller Kendall.
He strode quickly down from the stands.
Walking up to Momo, he grabbed the little guy by the scruff of his collar, like picking up a scrawny kitten.
"Come on. We’re going to the track," he said, his voice deep and firm.
"No, I don’t want you...!"
The little boy’s voice was choked with sobs, his eyes already brimming with tears.
Theodore Grant glanced back and glared at him, his eyes sharp as a knife. "You listen to me. If you don’t give it your all when we run, you’ll see how I’ll deal with you."
The little boy flinched, not daring to cry out loud anymore. He could only stare at the man with red-rimmed eyes.
He was terrified of Theodore Grant.
His gaze was filled with fear.
The man’s large hand pressed on the little guy’s shoulder. "Do you want to get first place or not?"
With red eyes, he shook his head.
Theodore Grant narrowed his eyes. "I’ll ask you one more time. Do you want to get first place?"
The little guy hesitated.
’This mean uncle in front of him seemed... somehow... to have a kind of magic, making him believe they could take first place together.’
"...Yeah."
He was pleased. ’The kid still has some fight in him.’ "Then let’s go get first place."
Theodore Grant and the little guy entered the junior class relay race.
In reality, a race with kids this young is really a competition between the adults.
The children’s abilities were all more or less the same.
Standing in the stands, Weller Kendall raised an eyebrow. ’Didn’t he have a falling out with Natalie Morgan?’
’So... he’s still a softie after all.’
"Principal, I’m so sorry I’m late." An anxious woman’s voice came from nearby.
Weller Kendall glanced over and saw Natalie Morgan, her forehead beaded with sweat.
He lowered his gaze slightly and turned his face away.
"Momo’s mother, it’s great that you could make it. Little Momo’s race is about to start. We’re all looking forward to it."
The principal said with a smile.
Natalie Morgan nodded, then finally raised her eyes to look out at the field.
She quickly found her son.
But then she also spotted... Theodore Grant.
’How could he be here?’
’Why is he at a sports day with my son?’
’He couldn’t have... found something out, could he?’
She shook her head. ’Momo doesn’t look like Theodore Grant; he looks more like me. He won’t suspect anything.’
The race began.
The little guy ran with all his might, but after just twenty or thirty meters, he tripped and went flying with a THUD.
Natalie Morgan’s heart instantly tightened, her eyes filled with worry.
She had expected Momo to burst into tears immediately after falling, just like he always did.
After all, he had been somewhat fragile since he was little, with a low tolerance for pain.
However, to her surprise, the little guy was exceptionally tough.
He quickly scrambled up from the ground, dusted himself off, and charged straight toward Theodore Grant without a moment’s hesitation.
By the time they exchanged the baton, the parents in the other lanes were already a good distance ahead.
But no one could have expected that the "father" in this temporary "father-son" duo would be so fast, his explosive power utterly astonishing.
Unsurprisingly, Theodore Grant’s team took first place.
During the award ceremony, the little guy beside him seemed a bit reserved. His small body pressed close to Theodore Grant, his big, clear eyes shimmering with a light that was both excited and a little cautious.
Theodore Grant looked down and held out his large hand. "Want to sit on my shoulders?"
The child froze for a second, his big eyes blinking. Then, he mustered his courage and gave a small nod.
The man smiled, picked up the little guy, and placed him securely on his shoulders.
It was the little guy’s first time sitting on a man’s shoulders, looking down on the world, and a hint of pride appeared on his face.
Down below, Natalie Morgan’s gaze was locked on the pair on the winner’s podium.
Deep within her heart, a complex emotion stirred—like the surface of a lake rippled by the wind, sending out waves that were slow to calm. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
Momo was the first to spot his mother. He ran over, medal in hand, to show it off to her.
Theodore Grant followed close behind him.
Weller Kendall handed him his jacket. "Mr. Grant."
Natalie Morgan turned to look at the man. She had actually wanted to say thank you.
But...
The man paid her no mind. With a face as cold as ice, he left the kindergarten with Weller Kendall.
