He Got Engaged to His First Love On the Day I Died-Chapter 152: He Caught the Falling Child
Natalie Morgan took Momo to the women’s restroom.
She planned to clean up quickly and then get her son out of there immediately.
While she was cleaning the stains off herself, Momo played with his toy car nearby.
The toy car’s wheels were smooth, and with the slightest push, it would roll far away.
Natalie looked away for just a second.
The little guy followed the toy car out of the restroom.
Suddenly, a large hand clamped over his mouth, and he was swiftly carried away.
When Natalie Morgan turned her head, she saw that Momo was gone.
Her heart seized. She bolted outside, searching for him. "Momo! Momo!"
She anxiously grabbed every person she saw, asking, "Have you seen a three-year-old boy? He’s wearing beige pants and a blue shirt."
Everyone shook their heads.
Natalie Morgan panicked.
She took out her phone and called Felix Finch.
But the call didn’t go through.
"Momo..."
"Momo..."
"Momo..."
Natalie Morgan rushed all the way from the third floor down to the first, but there was no sign of the little boy.
She gripped her phone tightly, her heart pounding like a drum.
’It must have been Felix Finch who took him.’
’What do I do? What on earth do I do?’
Natalie Morgan paced back and forth in a panic.
Just then, Theodore Grant and Weller Kendall rushed over.
Theodore Grant grabbed her trembling shoulders and asked in a deep voice, "Where’s the child? What happened?"
Natalie Morgan’s eyes were already rimmed with red, and tears streamed down her face like pearls from a broken string.
Her voice trembled. "I don’t know... I just looked away for a second, and he was gone. I really don’t know..."
Theodore Grant’s sharp gaze swept across the area.
"Where’s Felix Finch? Where is he?"
"I don’t know... I don’t know where he went..." Natalie Morgan shook her head helplessly.
She had a premonition that something terrible was about to happen.
The clamor of the crowd rose and fell around them.
Suddenly, a piercing shout cut through the air.
"Quick, look! Why is that kid playing on the windowsill? That’s so dangerous! If he falls, even if he doesn’t die, he’ll be crippled for life!"
Hearing this, the three of them ran outside, their expressions tense.
All three of them looked up at the window at the same time.
"Momo..." Natalie Morgan cried out.
The little boy was straddling the windowsill, about to swing his other leg from the inside to the outside.
Once all his weight shifted to the outside, he would surely lose his balance and fall.
"Momo, don’t move!" Natalie Morgan said, her voice urgent but low, afraid of startling him. "Mommy is coming up to get you right now, okay?"
The little boy seemed terrified by the sudden turn of events as well.
His wide eyes were filled with terror and helplessness.
His small hands gripped the window frame as he cried and called for his mommy.
Seeing Natalie Morgan standing down below made him want to jump straight into her arms. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
"Mommy..."
"Mommy..."
The child’s cries were helpless, and Natalie Morgan’s eyes filled with despair and anxiety.
She didn’t dare call her son’s name again, afraid he might try to jump down to her.
Theodore Grant shot Weller Kendall a look. Weller understood immediately, turned, and headed upstairs.
The little boy was crying hysterically.
His small body teetered precariously outside the window—a heart-stopping sight.
A crowd of onlookers had gathered below, murmuring amongst themselves.
’Don’t move, sweetie,’ she pleaded silently.
Natalie Morgan felt as if an invisible hand was squeezing her heart, making it nearly impossible to breathe.
The fifth floor. It wasn’t extremely high, but it wasn’t low, either. For a small child, the consequences of a fall would be unthinkable.
She was terrified.
Her baby’s cries grew more and more heart-wrenching, each sob piercing her heart like a needle.
Most of the little boy’s body was already outside the window, with only one small hand still gripping the ledge.
The wind was strong, howling as it battered his tiny, swaying body.
Theodore Grant found the right spot and moved into position...
"Ah! Oh my God, the kid is falling!" the crowd screamed.
Natalie Morgan’s heart jolted. Her eyes flew wide as she stared at the scene in disbelief.
Her body froze. She wanted to move, but her legs felt as if they were filled with lead. All she could do was watch helplessly as her baby fell from the fifth-floor window.
It felt as if all the blood drained from her head in an instant. Dizziness washed over her...
Her vision tunneled to black as she sank into despair.
But the baby didn’t hit the ground as expected. Instead, he landed squarely in Theodore Grant’s arms.
He had caught him.
The little boy blinked. His lower lip quivered twice, and then he let out a loud wail.
Hearing his cries, the woman who had been about to faint snapped back to her senses.
When her baby was placed in her arms, completely unharmed, she broke down and sobbed.
Weller Kendall came running out of the mall.
He came to Theodore Grant’s side and whispered in his ear, "The room was locked, I couldn’t get in. By the time I found someone to open it, Felix Finch was gone."
"He was probably long gone," Theodore said.
’Why would he stick around the scene of the crime?’
’But this time, he’s miscalculated again.’
Natalie Morgan took her son to the hospital.
Aside from being frightened, there was nothing wrong with him.
「After returning home from the hospital」
Natalie Morgan couldn’t stop thinking about why Felix Finch would do such a thing to her child.
After thinking it over and over, she could only come up with one reason.
It had to be... that this child was also Theodore Grant’s.
Felix Finch had a grudge against Theodore Grant.
’But weren’t they good friends who grew up together?’
’Felix was even the Grant family’s doctor for years. I really can’t figure it out.’
When Theodore Grant returned, Natalie Morgan was curled up on the sofa, lost in thought.
He coughed deliberately to announce his return.
Hearing the noise, Natalie snapped out of her daze and sat up straight. "You’re back."
It was the first time she had ever greeted him voluntarily.
The man was pleasantly surprised.
His expression was a bit unnatural as he responded, "Yeah."
"About today, thank you. Thank you for saving my son. I’ll find a way to repay you." Her tone was natural and calm, free of her usual hostility and irritation.
This was the second time Theodore Grant had saved her child.
’No matter what, this was a debt she had to repay.’
The man’s face fell slightly, his momentary pleasure evaporating. "No need."
"Theodore Grant, there’s something I want to ask you."
"What is it?"
Natalie wasn’t one to beat around the bush, so she asked him directly, "Why would Felix Finch want to harm my child? Do you know why?"
"You’re asking me, the man you hate most in the world, about your child and the man you love? What kind of answer do you expect me to give you?"
There was a clear note of anger in Theodore Grant’s voice.
’He knew Natalie would never tell him who the child’s father was.’
’And he wouldn’t ask.’
’So he couldn’t give her an answer, either.’
Natalie was left speechless.
She didn’t press the issue, having lost all interest in asking him further. "Forget I asked."
"So, in your heart, is Felix Finch still a good person?" he retorted.
Natalie’s expression faltered. She was deeply disappointed in herself for not having seen Felix Finch’s true colors sooner.
’But a bad person is a bad person. There’s no reason for me to cover for him.’
"He’s not a good person. And neither are you."
Theodore Grant was left speechless.
’She just had to drag him into it, too.’
"Natalie Morgan, I’ve saved your son twice now. You just said you were going to repay me. Is this how you do it?"
